I (26M) don’t know what’s wrong with me recently. In April of 2025, my girlfriend of 3 years and I broke up. I’ve had 2 girlfriends before her and handled all 3 breakups normally, initial depression but then recovering slowly.

So fast forward to now. I met a girl on a dating app who was in the same club as my ex in college. We play the same mobile game which is pretty niche which allowed us to kick things off pretty quickly. We had a bad first date but rekindled it 2 months later after I saw that she was online and invited her to play. We had our second date after that and had an amazing time. Our next few dates were also really good, but I was too scared to initiate any physical contact for a couple reasons. Fast forward a month later, we went on another date that was also going very well until we found out that we have different political beliefs.

Following that, she said she wasn’t looking for a relationship but I still chose to hang around her for the next few months. So now to the present, it has been 5 months since our second date and during this time we had some amazing “dates” and some not so great. There were periods of no contact due to busy schedules and periods of talking every day. But still no physical escalation. Over the past 2-3 weeks, there was barely any contact and I felt that she was pulling away. And this past weekend, I got to see her for the first time in a while finally tried to initiate something by putting my arm around her and it went terribly.

Long story short, we decided to stop talking to each other and I have been spiraling harder than I ever have in life. Like barely functioning. I’ve had suicidal thoughts and cannot move on. Every breakup or situationship ending before, I’ve been able to at least function and motivate myself but this one truly feels like it’s consuming me. I don’t know why and I just really need help. I don’t know where this level of obsession has come from and I’ve never felt it before and I feel truly broken right now.
