The app takes one minute to play. A fresh quiz every day.

https://daily5.app

It has special days, like Canada Day today, and otherwise is a retro trivia game. This Monday the 1990s begin.

No ads, no tracking. Human-written questions submitted by fans of the app.

What do you think of the premise? Mon-Fri is "retro" where I focus on a decade, and weekends and holidays are one-offs that act as a palate cleanser.

You can read the origin story of my app here. (Medium)

Looking for one-hand, "pick up and play" casual game

I need a game for when I am on the subway, holding on to a steel pole during rush hours.

Needs to be:

  1. one handed (preferably just a thumb)
  2. pick up and play
  3. stop play easily, or turn-based
  4. easy to see (no small font or too many menus)

Is my retro trivia game too hard? (It's Free, no ads)

Game Title: Daily 5 Retro Trivia

Playable Link: https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id6754609150

Platform: iOS

Description: Human-made quizzes! No ads!

This is the Wordle of Trivia games — with a twist: every week has a decade theme. 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and more. It's pure nostalgia!

Quick to play, then get on with your day!

Lately scores are migrating south, so I am wondering if it is too hard. I don't want to make people feel dumb. (But it needs to be a challenge, too.)

This week is the 1970s.

[DEV] UPDATE! I made the Wordle of Trivia games. Human-written questions, 100% free, no ads

Today is "Medieval History", but "1990s" start Monday!

My passion project is The Daily 5, a bite-sized trivia game that won't eat up your day. There are thousands of trivia apps out there, but I have never seen one that matches these specs... 🍀

The specs:

  • 5 fresh Trivia questions drop at midnight
  • High quality human-written quizzes
  • 100% FREE! No ads, no tracking ❤️
  • Nostalgic themes from decades (1960s, 1990s, etc.)
  • global leaderboard with Top 50 ranked 🏆
  • speed matters! The faster you answer, the higher your score
  • ... as long as your answers are correct!
  • each question has 4 multiple choice answers

My main goal was: offer a little break that won't eat up your day. Like Wordle, but for Trivia nerds.

Check it out here:
https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id6754609150

Thanks! 🙏

UPDATE: Two big updates recently:

  1. "Groups" lets you play against friends (with your own leaderboard)
  2. "Nations" shows the Top 3 in your nation

Any interesting games that require tilting (Gyroscope / Accelerometer)

I am looking for games where the primary mechanic is tilting or rotating the phone. Obviously, it would be subtle motions.

Not sure what kind of game it would be, but I figure if games exist where you just press "tap", like Flappy Bird, etc., there must be games where you just tilt the phone. Maybe something where you fill something with sand or liquid, or a Lunar Lander type of thing?

I make a daily trivia app. It is retro quizzes, every day, just 5 questions. I thought I was a legit genius when I came up with this plan: Share day old quizzes as Reels on Insta! BOOM!

I started doing it — 5 reels per week. It has been 2 months and I am already at 41 followers and literally dozens of views! I am serious. Check out:

https://www.instagram.com/daily5trivia/reels/

Full disclosure: I am now at 40 followers, as someone un-subbed when I was typing up this message.

On a serious note: Does anyone have any ideas about how I can turn this around? That said, even if my Insta doesn't drive new app installs, I do like the idea of having an archive of all my quizzes. Plus the wall of Reels looks pretty cool. Thanks! 🙏

Last November I spent 3 weeks making an MVP for something that was my passion, but I knew was a long shot. I wrote a Medium article about it, which is sort of the origin story and me admitting how foolish this was, lol. Also, I explain how much of the success was sheer luck. Check out:

Followed my passion. Was told success was impossible in a saturated market. Did it anyway. (Medium)

It is 5 months later. I have a small but growing user base with some real fanatics. I would have folded a long time ago, but fans of the app offered to write questions for me. Thanks guys! 🙏

My original plan was to spend 3 weeks per app making MVPs, throwing things at the wall to see what sticks, and moving on to the next one when they inevitably failed. This first effort surprised me when it had a following right away.

If anyone has feedback on my origin story, my app, or any questions, I am happy to answer them.
