Anybody using floor finishes for oak?

Carpenter by trade who dabbles in woodworking and finish carpentry. I built my own house recently, and after using Bona mega one on my floor, im addicted to this finish. Ive been using it on any projects with white oak, which is getting the popularity it deserves these days. stairs? Bona. Sills? Bona. Custom white oak island? Bona. It smells good, dries fast and has a few sealer colors that produce a color between dry oak to amber/wet look. Any caveats? Anybody else using something unique outside of the normal Rubio, oils, shellac and lacquer?

Failed 2 inspections due to fireblocking.

What 2 seperate inspectors have told me is that fireblocking is required on tall framed walls. One said "every 10 feet". The other said "midspan". I block my sheathing on edge for nailing for various reasons

. Mind you, the walls in question range from 12-20+' tall. Im a framer of 25 years and I know and read thoroughly my local code book. I take great pride in my work and knowledge of local building codes. For Michigan its 2015 Michigan Residential Code (still). The section on fireblocking is short and concise. The only two applicable sentences under 302.11 are 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 : "1.1. Vertically at the ceiling and floor levels" and "1.2. Horizontally at intervals not exceeding 10 feet (3048 mm)."

Inspectors often think (or have learned) that 10' applies to a vertical concealed space. It does not. We DO firestop with a vertical stud every 10' (measured horizontally) in concealed spaces such as a basement partition wall that is gapped 1" from the foundation, for example.

Is this 10' horizontally AND vertically a code somewhere else in the US? Was this a recently amended code?

Mind you, the first failed inspection I simply pointed to the code book that approves insulation as a fireblocking material. I said, "Even if you interpret use of the word 'horizontally' to apply to exterior wall stud cavities, these walls are getting insulated". He saw mineral wool insulation bundles on site and mumbled something about "i guess thats ok". The second inspection just happened on a massive 8500 ft house we finished framing in June. Different inspector, different city. He is finishing the inspection Monday and I plan to meet him on site. Superintendent called Friday and said he only finished half of the inspection, mentioned the structural/ framing was "impressive, but we need fireblocking in the tall walls".

Thoughts and feelings?

Scissor me timbers. Yargh!

Im a residential framer and we were hired to do some timber framing accents on a new resi build, as well as build the cabana in the first pic. The original framers couldnt hack it with the beam work. Im curious how anyone else does massive half laps? I think i need a new tool.. but what? Cut these to length with a sasquatch beam saw, but for the half laps I just scored with a circular saw. Then chunked, chiseled and sanded (60 grit turbo on the Bosch Get75-6n) the mortise. Theres gotta be a better way!! All in there were 15 scissor ties, made out of 4×6 Douglas fir. Cheers

Ps my little apprentice in the last Pic getting some hand planed champfers in.

Drop shotting for bass at Lake St. Clair

But ended up with a nice walleye dinner and this surprise cat! Its funny, the only smallie we caught was on a spinnerbait. Ended up landing 5 walleye from 16-24", the cat, a 28" pike, 2 dink perch.

Is half of this River Birch dead?

Given this potted river birch as a gift in the spring. At the same time I planted a bare root black locust that is thriving. I water the birch every 3-5 days. It seems that the bottom is springing new life / kind of looks like suckers. Is the top all dead? Should I prune it way down come winter? Thanks!

What's this shaft length?

Firstly, I had a post about my 1972 9.5 Evinrude that was running out of fuel after 20 seconds. Those of you who mentioned the float were correct. It was wonky and its all my fault. I replaced all Amazon parts with oem and checked for level and she runs tits. Thank you for that! Now! I cant get on plane. Running about 11 knots, weight is distributed well (gas tank mid boat, battery front of mid seat, 16 year old co-pilot in very front.) Motor is tight to transom, as in i can't trim down any more. I also noticed that the motor back-splashing the hell out of my transom. Upon inspection, cavitation plate is a couple of inches below the hull. Motor seems to between a short shaft and a long (17.5" ???) I didn't even know this was a thing. For reference, the short shaft 4hp in the pic sits perfectly. Do I just have the wrong shaft length? Id hate to rebuild the transom (made of rich mahogany and my own sweat and blood). This Motor *came with this boat*! Its finally all back together and running well, now im realizing this. Grrr!

What is this shooting up like freaking corn??

SE Michigan New construction, seeded too late so lawn was (is still) a mess. But I'm on it with a whole gambit of chemicals heh. The issue is this area that I seeded last fall with a bag of random seed I got for free from a landscaper friend of mine. I searched the package and looked it up, no mention of strains / species. Anyway now I have a few large patches of this garbage. It grows twice as fast, is lime green and patchy. Looking for a species identification so I can eliminate it. I have a quality seed i bought from Twincity this time around so hopefully my lawn looks nicer come next spring.

Thank you guys and gals so much for your help.

About to give up.

Fixed up a moused 9.5 9222m evinrude and its not running right (good compression) Replaced parts in magneto and set points. Rebuilt carb, new fuel lines, new fuel pump. Seems to lose fuel at full throttle after 20-30 seconds, but then idles down fine and will do it again. Loosened gas cap, and even tried with cowl off, no help.
