Is there a "smoothing" function to soften the meshes between these openings?

some way to "average" the surfaces into each other, without losing the shape of the openings (i.e. if I dupborder, the new surface will continue to match the previous dupborder)...

basically take a sander to the convex, and add material to the concave - If I was speaking in sculptural terms

If not - or may alternate method/Q2: ff I had all the dupborders for the eyelets, is rhino able to average a surface between them, assuming I gave it a boundary curve around the eyelets?

Best Practices for File Management?

So I'm working on my first major Revit based project.

currently I date each major change with a Save-As with new date. Revit also makes multiple backup saves...

I have 125 project files for ONE project (15GB) - Should I keep just the milestone of dated file of each project (ie, none of the Revit backups, they're pretty irrelevant now I guess)...

Should I purge all the old files of unused families? Are there other ways to minimize their size?

I've never worked with files this large for projects, so my typical best practices of saving EVERYTHING are no longer working LOL.

How can I edit door schedule fields?

I need to define materials, and the manufacturer hasn't defined the material in a way that it shows up on the schedule (I have tried all the fields)

Some of the fields I can edit manually (yellow), but others I can't change at all (blue)

Also noticed that there are a pair of the same headered fields (purple)

Not sure how to make this work, my schedule needs to have materials... U factors, etc...

Thank you for making me type it out

I came here to ask a question about why my floors weren't colored correctly in a specific view... and while typing out my question in detail, I realized what I was forgetting to do. It's funny that I couldn't get a google answer and it just took me coming here and typing the word "in a specific view" to realize what I needed.

Answer was: override graphics in view.

PS. I am newish to Revit and slept for 4 hours last night and I'm over 40. excuse my noob-ness.

Are you adding slope to architectural drawings for hardscape?

I've gone through my project and added a 2% slope to all my hardscape so i can easily add a slope elevation annotation to the plan set... but the elevation drawings all look super awkward now.

I've looked at a bunch of other plan sets, and I don't see anyone showing hardscape slope in their elevation drawings... even though it's code required.

What are people's typical practices with this? Do you not mark the slope and just call out a construction note? Do you make a text annotation?

Hardscape slope perpendicular to stair run creates awkward elevation

Hi all,

What does the code or practical construction practices say about a 2% stone patio slope away from the house, that has a 5' wide stair on it's side perpendicular to the slope? The 60" stair tread width will result in a 1.5" height difference between either side of the stair tread.
Is the typical detail to flatten out the patio at this point, then resume the slope afterwards?

What do I get for the extra? 5060/5060Ti/5070

I’m upgrading from a 3060 12 GB

5060 8 gigs.. the Ti 16 gigs is an extra 170 bucks and the 5070 is 12 gigs and extra extra $100 on top of that.

I could afford any of them, but I predominantly used 3-D software and don’t game (except for the occasional Fortnite, Baldur gate, and EVE online asof this weekend )It’s just a question of whether or not there were functional differences when it came to the software I use (rhino3D, Revit, Unreal twinmotion).

I’m not gonna go for the 5070 TI because that’s an extra $360 on top of that. Sally Struthers still wants my $.70 a day so I gotta save that $

Can’t decide on basics

I posted a question about a modest upgrade earlier, and it’s all coming down to Ram of course… and I can’t decide which is the better performance upgrade. Everyone told me to stick with my 64 gigs of DDR4, but the bundle discounts on the newer motherboard models has me thinking…

  1. a 14700& motherboard and bring my existing 64gb ddr4 over ($400)

  2. a 14700 &MB &32GB DDR5 ($600)

  3. a 270k+ &MB & 32GB DDR5 ($600)

The price difference isn’t a big deal, I just don’t know which is the best performance boost to my current 11700k , which I’ve felt is lagging of late…

With options 2&3 I can maybe sell my two sticks of DDR 4 and get another 16 DDR5?? I guess I can also sell the whole Rig…

Ideas?

Kia replaced my 2.0L 160HP engine in my 2014 with a brand new engine. Now I have what Kia says is a $4500-$5500, and eBay says is a $3,500, engine in a car worth $7500… What would one do with this ? Just say yay! And sell the car, or does this engine get taken out and put somewhere really cool? Is the engine even interesting? Seems to be compact and decent power… maybe there’s a better home for it than a 2014 Kia soul?

I'm running a 11700K w/ 64GB3200 + 3060

I think it's time to upgrade, I feel like I'm bottlenecking..

I don't game, really (I dabble in fortnight and baldur's gate)

I currently have 160 tabs open across 4 browsers and usually one or two 3d design softwares open (I only actively work in one at a time)

What's my move? 270K+ ? 7800? 9850? X3d? 14700K?

or even a 14600K?!?!

I see a lot of CPU+RAM+MB bundles of 270K+ or 9850X3d under $800

but I could also get a 14600K+MB and bring my DDR4 over, for $400+

and use that $400 to go from a 3060 to a 5070???

I've been stuck for months because I have no idea where intel is going and if I should make the jump to next level with them, or move on to AMD. I won't upgrade again for another 5 years... unless A.I. forces me to.
