Looking to start with wild bettas but where do I buy them?

Hello, I am a decently experienced fishkeeper of ~8 years and primarily focus on hillstream fish (specifically Balitoridae) but lately I have been becoming enamored with blackwater fish and specifically wild bettas. I have kept South american blackwater fish in the past as well as things like strawberry rasboras. I really want to start with a pair of either Betta api api, channoides, or brownorum and I was just about to purchase a pair of B. channoides from a company called Blackwater Aquatics last night, but then I came to this subreddit and looked them up and I saw a bunch of stuff about how they have critically endangered fish and may have poached material as well, so I'd rather not support that. So the question is, where exactly else can I find them? If anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it, thanks!

Manual changes on google maps not porting to phone

I'm trying to chart a route on google maps, and the recommended path it's giving me goes right through an active construction site on the road, so I have manually modified the path to take a slight detour. The problem is, when I send the edited map to my phone, the edits don't show up and it just goes to the original map. I have tried using the "send to phone" feature, as well as copying the link but neither work. Does anyone know how to get around this?

Do different species of Sewellia hybridize? What about Gastromyzon?

Asking because I can't seem to find this info online (especially regarding Sewellia) - But I have watched videos from Borneo where different species of Gastromyzon are found in the same area, and I assume it's the same with sewellia - Does anyone know if they will hybridize with each other or are they genetically different enough to not do so?

Question about Fedex Center in City of Industry

I live ~12miles from the city of industry and I have a package I need to pick up at the Fedex Center on Fullerton (1081 Fullerton Rd City Of Industry, CA 91748). I looked on Google Maps and I am confused as to how I would even get there, because the route that the Gmaps charted for me seems to go directly through an active construction project happening on the road. In fact, there seems to be construction going on every road surrounding the fedex center. Has anyone been here recently? Is there even a way to get inside?

Free aquarium fish in Arcadia looking for good homes

My brother is a fishkeeper and is moving and unfortunately has to part with some fish. We already sent out a couple before on here and are looking for good homes for the rest of them, free of cost to you.

We have:
x1 Roseline barb
x4 Hillstream loaches (Sewellia lineolata)
x6 Zebra loaches (Botia striata, these will eat snails and small shrimp)
15-ish white cloud mountain minnows (can go outdoors in SoCal year round in ponds etc)

Send me a PM if interested, thanks! Ideally I’d like to see these guys in the hands of at least semi-experienced aquarists.

Left my friend group of 3+ yrs because no one can be bothered to learn how to say my name correctly

Edit - My name is 5 letters long and does not have any vowels in a row, nor does it have any tonality. In fact it almost sounds similar to the American/Western name "John", which is easy enough to pronounce.

Tbh, this isn’t really a vent because I’ve been dealing with this since I was a kid. I have a name that is sort of tricky to pronounce. It’s not long or difficult by any means but if you hear it for the first time it’ll definitely take you some time to get used to it. Even in my years of formal schooling, I can count on one hand the number of schoolmates/teachers that have even bothered to ask how to pronounce it correctly. In some ways, it wasn’t too bad because teachers would actively avoid picking on me in class to answer questions simply because they couldn’t pronounce my name.

In other ways (and overwhelmingly so) it was a curse, because instead of calling you by your name people just refer to you as “hey” or “that kid”. When I was in middle school I almost got left behind on a field trip because I was in the public bathroom and the teacher didn’t call my name to get on the bus because they didn’t say it. In my sophomore year of high school I had a teacher that referred to me as “you” for the entire year.

Now, I just finished my third year of university and the group of people who I met through my dorm and I decided to have a get together today. I’ve known these people since the first day of freshman year and we’ve basically been inseparable since then, during classes and outside of school.

We were in downtown and one of them wanted to get ice cream, I was on the phone with my mom a little ways down the block so one of them went to go get me, but when he called out to me, he said my name so bizarrely that I actually had to do a double take. For the rest of the night, I couldn’t stop thinking about how he had said my name and it slowly started to dawn on me that hardly any of them had said my name in the past 3 years that we had known each other. Even when we went to the arcade, watched a movie etc the only thing I could think about was how he had said my name.

After the movie, I did something that even I was unsure if it was the right move or not, because I had brought up the name issue to them before and they had either just brushed it off or been like “yeah I’ll remember for next time”. But basically I just stopped all of them and asked if they could say my name, and as expected, none of them said it right. Not even remotely close. And after that, one of them just sighed, looked at me and said, “Can we please just drop this already dude? It’s not a big deal”.

Now, I don’t know what came over me in this instant, but I guess the pent up frustration of years and years of being referred to as “you” or “they” or “that guy” finally boiled over because I said, very loudly and firmly (so much so that I even shocked myself), “If none of you can even be bothered to learn to say my name, I don’t think we should be friends”. Everyone went silent for a bit, until the “group leader” of sorts just titled his head back, rubbed his temples, and said “how long are you going to keep bringing this up, man.”

I was in this weird emotional mix of annoyance and anger so I just nodded and started walking in the opposite direction. It’s been about 8 hours since that happened and I think it’s time that I split off from these people for good, so I’m back to being a loner.

I’m still not sure what came over me but I guess in that instance, I just felt like my self respect was being trampled. For years of my life, I lived in such a way to intentionally avoid people so they couldn’t say my name, or didn’t have to say my name. I wish I could say that I felt some kind of triumph for finally standing up for myself but I didn’t, I just felt the same hollow emptiness that I’ve gotten used to when people refer to me as “you” or “that guy”

Photo is of me eating a sausage Mcmuffin on a foggy day in the mountains. I live at the base of the mountains and I like coming up here to clear my mind.

My neighbor’s horse eats chickens. Is this normal?

I have little to no experience with horses but one of my neighbors has had horses for several years. We live at the base of the mountains so he takes them on the trails. I was speaking to him today and he told that a horse he used to have used to eat chicks and chickens that wandered into its pen from the coop. They apparently kept missing chickens until they found a giant pile of feathers and chewed up carcasses in the horse’s pen and even caught it actively eating one.

Is this normal for horses? Again I have no clue

This is going to turn into a long narration but I am really frustrated with this situation so excuse the rant. I am an Indian-American male in my early 20s, born and raised all my life in California but visited India every winter and summer break since I was a kid. I have been into sports pretty much my whole life and I am part of my university rock climbing team and compete semi-professionally. In mid-2025, my second cousins from my mom's side of the family moved to my city from Hyderabad and both their kids enrolled in our local high school, which is the same high school that my younger brother goes to, they are in the 9th and 10th grade. My university is close by so a couple times a week, I will drive them to school or pick them up after, if I am free. They are not vegetarians, but they eat very little meat in general, maybe eggs once or twice a week, if that and I am coming to the conclusion that their diet is playing a part in their poor performance.

For this semester of my uni, I only have afternoon classes so I drop them off in the morning every day and pick them up 3x a week. Every time I see them, I notice that they are ALWAYS exhausted. They always seem to be in this groggy, lethargic state with no energy at all. They don't have any underlying medical conditions and are healthy otherwise. In contrast, my younger brother, who has historically had a host of medical conditions since he was a baby, is always alert and active.

My neighbors are Korean and go to the same school and when I pick them up as well I notice that they are also active and chatting. It's just these two kids that are either asleep or in this permanently dazed state. What's more is that in India, they did track and field in school, but when they applied for the track team here, they didn't even make it past the qualifying round. I suppose this is a testament to the state of non-cricket sports in india but that's a rant for another time. On the rare occasions that they talk in the car, they complain about how tough the school is or how they have no energy throughout the day, or how they're always tired.

Just to put this into perspective, my younger brother is in marching band and they practice for hours after school in the hot sun carrying heavy instruments. My neighbors are both in the soccer team and they do the same thing, and yet these kids who aren't in any extracurriculars at all are slogging while the others are always full of energy even after physically exerting themselves at the end of the day after 6 hours of classes.

Out of curiosity I asked them what they eat/bring for lunch weekly and this is what they told me:
Monday - Rice/green bean curry/rasam/dal/pappu
Tuesday - Rice, potato curry, rasam
Wednesday - Rice, 1 hard boiled egg, potato curry, rasam
Thursday - Rice, tofu curry, some pickle, potato curry
Friday - Rice, mixed veggie and tofu curry, dal

In contrast, here is what my Korean neighbors bring for lunch:
Monday - Friday - Some meat (chicken/pork/beef/fish), hard boiled egg, pickled veggies, rice, tofu, sauteed mixed greens and bean sprouts, kimchi

On the same block as the high school is a Raising Canes, which is this american fast food chain that specializes in chicken. Sometimes I take all the kids there and my cousins eat like they've never eaten before in their lives. The first time I saw them gulping it down I was actually shocked. The worst part is, I know that they both love track and field, but in american schools they take athletics very seriously and getting into the team is extremely competitive. With their current diet they stand absolutely no chance against the other people who want the same spot. It's like a hydrogen bomb vs dying ant comparison.

As someone who has suffered from protein deficiencies as a kid I am too familiar with the type of things you have to go through and I can especially relate to the constant state of lethargy. I know their parents and how stubborn they are and I am seriously contemplating having a discussion with them but it's more likely they will just brush it off. You know how Indian parents are, especially when it comes to protein. I just hate to see them in this state because their high school lives could be so much better if they just changed their diet. Not saying they need to make drastic changes at first but introducing more protein sources into their diet would make such a difference.
