On my new Mac mini, any webpage with video can push total CPU usage in Activity Monitor to 40–70% and even kick the fan on. Chrome/Brave playing the same type of video stays around 3–7%.
No extensions installed. Feels like a Safari/WebKit video decode or GPU/compositing regression. I'm done with Safari until they fix will just use Brave.
I have a new Mac mini M6 with 24GB RAM/512GB SSD. My System Data was already around 120GB, then after using my Crucial X9 Pro external SSD it started increasing by roughly 10GB per day until it reached about 152GB.
After disconnecting the SSD, System Data eventually dropped back down significantly to 60gb.
I know Spotlight indexing, metadata, caches, etc. can temporarily increase System Data, but a steady 10GB-a-day increase seems excessive.
The SSD itself works fine and I’m not seeing any obvious errors. Apple has already collected logs from the Mac, so I’m waiting to hear what they find.
Has anyone else seen this on macOS 27, especially with an external SSD? Did you figure out what was actually creating all that System Data?
I am curious whether anyone has tested the beta on the pros to gauge the new graphic EQ. I would like to download it, but I rely on my AirPods for frequent telehealth work and do not want them to fail or lose much performance, so I am checking in. Please let me know. I enjoy these; I purchased them about four weeks ago after the original pros proved a nightmare. I replaced them roughly four times before abandoning the pros for the long-stem second gen, which I still own. Then I committed to the threes, and the noise cancellation is impressive. Thanks 👍
I had the original AirPods Pro and had to replace them three times under warranty. 😂 Then I switched to the 2nd gen with the long stems, and now I finally picked these up. I’m genuinely impressed. The new drivers sound excellent, the ANC is incredible, and I really like the new Adaptive mode. 👍
I was happy to pay the $199 because I’ll be using them all day for telehealth at work and then for personal use afterward. The battery life is noticeably better, and these finally fit my ears properly. The original Pros never fit me well.
How’s everyone liking theirs?
Not My Guitar. I’ve been a die-hard Taylor fan for years, so this isn’t a Taylor hate post. I came across this 414ce in a Taylor group, and the owner was considering returning it because of the new four-piece top.
I know Taylor originally introduced four-piece tops on some 814ce models as a way to better utilize premium spruce and reduce waste. I completely understand the sustainability argument, and I’m not questioning the structural integrity or how they sound. By all accounts, they’re still excellent guitars.
My concern is purely aesthetic. When I’m spending this kind of money on a U.S.-made guitar, I expect a traditional two-piece bookmatched top. On this 414ce, the four-piece construction is immediately noticeable, and personally it takes away from the premium look that Taylor has always been known for IMO
What also surprises me is that I haven’t really seen Martin, Gibson, Yamaha, Furch, Collings, Bourgeois, or other higher-end builders moving toward four-piece tops on production guitars like this. Maybe I’m missing something, but it seems Taylor is becoming the exception.
Am I alone on this? Would a four-piece top on a guitar in this price range bother you enough to exchange or return it, or do you not care as long as it sounds great?
It blows my mind that Positive Grid doesn’t include an octave pedal. They have dozens of effects, 10 overdrives, multiple delays, reverbs, compressors, modulation effects… but no octave pedal. 🤔
Has anyone else wondered the same thing? I mean, even GarageBand has a basic octave pedal. 😂
I own two Fender Telecasters, but for my studio I really want a Strat, and an HSS seems like the perfect fit. These Pacificas look fantastic. I’ve also been considering a Revstar. If anyone here owns one, I’d love to hear your experience. How do the Seymour Duncan pickups sound? Are they more vintage-voiced, modern, or somewhere in between?
I’ve always used Fender mediums for years and never really thought about trying other picks it’s amazing how much more body it adds to my acoustics and the feel is great. I’ve thought about getting a Bluechip but don’t want to use it.
I’ve tried a lot of different strings, but Stringjoy is one brand I haven’t tried yet.
No matter what I experiment with, I always seem to end up back on Elixir Nanowebs. I’ve even tried D’Addario XS, but the Nanowebs feel a little less stiff to me and I prefer the tone. Maybe part of it is that I’ve played Taylors for years and they all use to come with Elixirs, so that’s just the sound and feel I’m used to.
I’ve seen some positive reviews of the Foxwoods, but I’ve also come across a few less favorable ones. A couple people mentioned they seemed to lose their tone fairly quickly, and two reviews specifically said the low E didn’t have as much depth or low-end response compared to XS or Elixirs.
For those who have tried them, what was your experience? Any other string recommendations I should check out?
