In search of doomy fuzz for stuff like Monolord. Swollen Pickle vs pork and pickle?

I have a blend pedal I can use with the swollen pickle so the blend knob isn't a factor with the pork/pickle. I'm looking for the most amount of fuzz possible so it's whichever has more on tap. Open to other suggestions but these are relatively cheap compared to more boutique stuff

The Jackdaw

I've been playing Assassins Creed Black Flag re-synced and I loved the original. It's basically a pirate sim and in the game you play as Edward Kenway, captain of the Jackdaw. I wanted to make a drink that uses the most pirate-y rums I have, and this is what I came up with. I present The Jackdaw! Mug courtesy of Inside Passage, Seattle WA.

The Jackdaw

- 1oz black rum ( Black Tot)

- 1oz navy strength rum (Planteray Mr Fogg No. 2)

- 0.5oz demerara rum (El Dorado 8)

- 0.25oz whiskey (buffalo trace)

- 0.75oz lime juice

- 0.5oz pineapple juice

- 0.25oz passionfruit syrup (Reál)

- 0.5oz cinnamon syrup

- 0.25oz allspice dram (Hamilton)

- 0.25oz falernum (JD Taylor)

- 2 dashes aromatic bitters

- pinch of salt or 2 drops saline

My Jungle Bird riff, the Ruffled Feathers

The Jungle Bird is one of my favorite drinks. I love the flavors in it, but I always felt the need to tweak ratios around. I like the bitterness but Campari is just so intense so I increase the pineapple and sometimes the sugar. Or use less Campari. Then I got a bottle of Cappelletti Apertivo and it is sweeter and also lower ABV (17%) and i find I like it better. I tend to use demerara and funky Jamaican rums in my jungle bird, as blackstrap rum is also really intense. But I still want those molasses flavors. I thought about getting some molasses bitters but then I realized I'm an idiot and I have molasses syrup already! I found it to be very sweet so I increased the alcohol volume and used stronger rums. I think it's similar to the jungle bird but far enough away I would give it a new name. I present the jungle birds sweeter, boozier cousin, the Ruffled Feathers!

- 0.5oz 151 demerara (I used Hamilton False Idol)

- 0.5oz Jamaican rum (S&C)

- 0.75oz dark rum (I went with Chairmans original)

- 0.75oz Cappelletti Apertivo

- 2oz pineapple juice

- 0.5oz lime juice

- 0.5oz molasses syrup

Looking to beat the heat? Look no further than the Paraná Punch!

I came across this while looking for ideas to put together Novo Fogo Silver and some strawberry syrup I got. It did not disappoint! It's very refreshing! Mai Tai glass I purchased at Skywalker Ranch General Store in San Francisco.

Paraná Punch:

- 2oz silver cachaca (Novo Fogo silver)

- 0.75oz lime juice

- 0.5oz campari

- 0.5oz strawberry syrup (I have Real brand)

I want to play Monolord on bass. I need moar gain. What pedal should I get?

I've got a Squier Troy Sanders jaguar into an Orange Crush 50. My deluxe muff just isn't beefy enough, I need MOOOAAARRRR. What is your pick for the heaviest of the heavy bass pedal of doom? Maybe the Giza Dva?

I want to play Monolord and I need moar gain. What should I get?

I'm running a Squier Troy Sanders jaguar into a Seymour Duncan Studio Bass comp > wounded paw fx blender (Plumes into Mosky King Rat) > EHX deluxe bass muff > 10 band EQ > b7k ultra knockoff at the end, and a zoom b1x four in the fx loop just for an SVT 8x10 cab sim. Orange Crush 50w. I know it sounds like I have enough here to play with and get a good dirty tone but man I just watched a Monolord gear rundown and my setup just doesn't do what his does! He's using mainly a Malekko Diabolik fuzz which cannot be found for purchase anymore. I'm not playing gigs, it's really just a home hobby so maybe it's the fact that he's got an Orange tube head into a real 8x10 doing the work?

I've got my big muff cranked to the max and it honestly just doesn't sound as big as I'd like it to. The Blumes is like a tube screamer even at its highest its just not this type of sound. The rat really doesn't do well with retaining low end even with the blend idk I just don't care for how it sounds. I find myself using the built in fuzz in the amp more than any pedals as it's beefy as fuck and really sounds like a bass chainsaw, but it is SO LOUD compared to the clean sound. If I'm ever in a situation where I need to disengage the fuzz there's a massive volume drop. So I'm looking for a new bass distortion or fuzz. Heaviest of the heavy, hammer of doom bass tone. Maybe the Orange fur coat, as it might sound similar to the built in fuzz? Or maybe something from DoesItDoom? Not sure how bass friendly their pedals are.

Unless you think maybe something else is wrong in my rig that I should be doing instead to get my tone where I want it? All of these pedals have different applications for all the stuff I play and sound great at certain things but this is the one thing where I find none of my pedals getting me there.

Into The Void (RIP Ozzy)

I've been working on making new drinks that bring my two favorite things, tiki and doom metal, together. This drink is dark, rich, and delicious! This one's for the prince of darkness and his incredible contributions to the world of music and the invention of heavy metal thru Black Sabbath (tho I could argue it was Tony Iommi who invented it but that's for another sub).

Mug from Strongwater! Recipe as follows:

- 1oz black blended rum (I went with Black Tot)

- 1oz demerara (Pussers)

- 0.5oz overproof rum (OFTD)

- 0.75oz lime juice

- 0.75oz molasses syrup (scant)

- 0.25oz coffee liqueur (Edgefield)

- 0.25oz allspice dram (St. Elizabeth)

- 0.25oz falernum (JD Taylor)

- 2 dashes angostura bitters

- 1 dash chocolate bitters

I'll probably catch flack for the lack of garnish but I just don't do garnishes for myself at home it feels silly and wasteful. I suppose I could have at least grabbed a swizzle but I did not.

Anyone know how often Woodrite restocks instruments?

Not sure if this kind of post is allowed but here goes. I'm sure woodrite/doesitdoom posts on instagram or something but I don't use those services. I want to get a Warlord bass but they just sold out before I could get one. I'd like to know when they might have some more. Could it be a year? I don't know when they launched or how many they've sold but all I know is there were 5 in stock and I checked daily until they were gone. (My wife and I were on a trip and didn't want to spend the money until we returned just in case and I missed out). And how many do they usually get in at a time?

San Francisco tiki haul!

Was in SF over the weekend and made it to world famous and severely underwhelming Smugglers Cove! Picked up the Kuhiko mug from the cover of the book as well as one of the apparently hated crate mugs! I love the crate and they're basically giving them away so I was glad to take one. Should have grabbed two! (Drink with mug to keep is $25!). The two mai tai glasses and the coconutty R2D2 came from the Skywalker Ranch store. The tiki face mug on the far right came from Forbidden Island in Alameda and let me tell you it was WAY better than Smugglers Cove!

Also picked up some rums I've had trouble finding here in Oregon. 2 bottles of the Falso Idol edition Hamilton 151, Clement VSOP agricole veiux, The Rum Explorer Guyana 2yr, Chairmans Reserve standard, and Denizen merchant reserve. I can find the Denizen here but every time I remember a shop having it I go back and they no longer do so I said F it and grabbed it there. I also got a bottle of Cappalletti Apertivo to use in Jungle Birds because campari is a bit too strong for me so I wanted a slightly sweeter Apertivo and this works beautifully! Very happy I found it! And those agricole rums can be real hard to find up here and I should have grabbed a 2nd bottle but oh well! San Fran is a terrible place but has some cool tiki!

I was expecting SC to be the epitome of tiki bars but boy was I wrong. Having to order at the bar, extremely limited seating, it's loud as hell because of the insane crowd. Most people not even sitting because lack of tables so it's just having to weave my way thru a big crowd of rowdy people trying to hold up tiki drinks so I can get a bartenders attention. And SO MANY people came in not knowing what tiki is so every time I got a drink served in a ceramic sculpted mug I was stopped 2 or 3 times with a "OMG WHAT DRINK IS THAT" and I just wanted to tell people to fuck off and read the menu, it shows all drinks there and also what kind of mug/glass they come in. They advertise mugs for sale. So it was a tiki bar that very much has the ambiance of a shitty dive bar. Cool place, absolutely terrible experience and would not go again. Yes the drinks are tasty and made well but my god the atmosphere there is atrocious and not worth the drinks. Glad I was able to secure the famous mug tho.

What do you think about an episode about a missing animal that pays homage to Ace Ventura?

I feel like it's a missed opportunity! They did a Clue themed episode that had Shawn running in a silly way to mimic Tim Curry's character and things like that so it would be fun to see Shawn playing around with the Ace Ventura mannerisms during an investigation. What do you think??

Heaven And Hell (a Black Sabbath/Dio cocktail)

It was supposed to be a layered cocktail but my layering skills are lacking lol. Recipe as follows!

Heaven (top layer)

- 1oz white rum (.25oz Wray & Nephew + 0.75oz Hamilton White Stache)

- 0.5oz lime juice

- 0.5oz pineapple juice

- 0.5oz orgeat

Hell (bottom layer)

- 1oz aged jamaican (0.5 Coruba and 0.5 S&C)

- 0.5oz demerara rum (Hamilton 86)

- 0.25oz allspice dram

- 0.25oz molasses syrup

Fill glass with ice. Shake up the dark layer ingredients and pour. I put a layer of bitters on top. Then shake up the heaven ingredients and slowly pour over a spoon to hopefully layer it. Enjoy! RIP Ronnie James Dio 🤘

For tuning to C and playing stoner/doom stuff like Monolord and Kyuss. Are you taking dual hums or the PP setup? I wonder if the PP can match the articulation I'd get with the soapbars

I don't have a car. I had to go once many years ago and it is a multi hour train ride to the court house. I don't give a shit about the courts or about society in general. I don't have the capacity to be a juror. I can't even pay attention to a 30 minute zoom call at work. Even if I put on my big boy pants and go down there, I literally do not have the capacity to do this. If they get me in a courtroom on the juror stand I will literally stare at the wall and not hear a word that is said. I will not have opinions on anything that happens because I'll have no clue what happened. I wasn't listening. I literally do not have the capacity to be a juror. I am feeling so irrationally angry about this I can't even focus at work. Idk if this is more anxiety or anger but I am just not okay at all. I even submitted a request to be excused due to travel hardship and they denied. I have to take a 2hr train ride at 6 in the fucking morning to get out there.

I've always thought courtrooms were bullshit and judges have too much power. Am I required to treat them like royalty? Am I allowed to use names or do I *have to* refer to them as "your honor" because saying those words makes me cringe so fucking hard. I can't say it with a straight face.

I just don't give a shit about any of this. Oh did someone defraud a company? Is it a traffic violation? Is it a murder? I just don't care. I don't want anything to do with any of this. I'm not a decider of anything don't ask my opinion. I have no opinion. I don't want any of this shit and they don't get to just force me into whatever they want. I am my own person and I have agency. What the fuck do I do?
