It's not the Putt-Putt Elephant, but I did aquire the original Kings Dominion animatronic Singing Frog that was at the park from 1975-1995
I have always been obsessed with these guys, in fact I painted a mural of them in high school for my senior art project. The current ones at the park are recreations for the 40th Anniversary in 2016. The orginals were given to former employees in the 90s.
I just bought the original animatronic frog that was on display at [Kings Dominion] from 1975 to 1995
If you have been to KD within the past ten years you've seen their Singing Mushrooms and piano frog- those guys are recreations of the original set that debuted with the park in 1975 that were recreated for the 40th Anniversary in 2015.

The orginals were removed in 1995. The original mushrooms and frog had been spotted spread across a few different yards nearby the park. The frog hadn't been seen since 2012ish when it disappeared from the yard it was in. Scrolling Marketplace this week this guy was for grabs from some folks who just bought a house and he came with it, concreted into the backyard ground at a different home than he was originally.

Very excited to own a piece of my home park's history, I have always been obsessed with these silly guys.
Introducing the Animatronic Frog from Kings Dominion theme park; 1975-1995
This guy was the piano playing frog apart of the coined "Singing Mushrooms" that played music every 20 minutes at Kings Dominion in the golden years of the park. Once Paramount bought the park in the early 90s, they were removed, to which two employees saved this guy and split the mushrooms and his piano. The park currently houses a new set of the Singing Mushrooms recreated for the 40 anniversary.

He was on display in a yard near the park from then on, which can be seen on Google Street View until 2012, in which he disappeared. Two other mushrooms were on display at a different home which are still there today.

Scrolling through Marketplace this week, I found the frog that had disappeared in 2012. Sellers said they bought the home and he was in the backyard. Found the previous owner of the home, in which I was told the frog was willed to them once original owner passed in 2012 and didn't want to take the frog with them when they sold the home. He also mentioned two of the mushrooms the owner had were stolen, leaving only the other two known at the mentioned home.

I have always loved these guys, and so ecstatic to own a piece of my home parks history. For 50 years old he's in great shape. While I will restore his exterior, unsure if I have skills to fix the pneumatic movement.
Here is a recap on all of my Stained Glass Pokemon Mirrors so far!
As we spend more time outside for summer CHECK FOR TICKS
It's being reported ticks are BAD this year, with a 44% increase in tick bite hospital admissions compared to the same month last year. Experts recommend using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants in wooded or grassy areas, and checking yourself and pets for ticks after spending time outdoors.
"Researchers and health officials say the issue is not just the bite itself, but the diseases ticks can transmit, including Lyme disease and alpha-gal syndrome, a condition that can trigger severe allergic reactions to red meat and other mammal products."

Creating a rainbow patina effect on lead solder
So here is an odd one- I am a stained glass artist. We use solder that is 60/40 tin/lead and use standard black patina consisting of Nitric Acid, Copper Sulphate Pentahydrate, Sodium Chloride, Selenium Dioxide, and water. This artist some how accidently created a rainbow effect applying this patina after cleaning their piece and is unsure how they did it and wants to be able to replicate it in the future. Any ideas on how to recreate this?

Late Night Discussions: RVA places/tidbits no one but you seem to remember
I have two oddly specific things I recall seeing from my early 2000s childhood that no one seems to recall-
1- The Brook Road Wal-Mart had a candy store in the back. I have very vague memory of it but I would get so excited going to that specific Wal-Mart for the candy store over our usual Short Pump store that had McDonald's in the back.
2- The Broad/Parham McDonald's (across from Westland Shopping Center) had an indoor water fountain thing in. It was old and not working when I was a kid, so I'm sure it was a late 80s/90s remodel install that was not upkept.
Anyone have any random/obscure tidbits they swear they remember but no one else does?
How are we in May, it was New Years last week.
Heading to Busch Gardens with husband before he starts back up summer classes for his NP. Can't wait until he is done for more adventures!
