Understanding fault - wait until other company pays?

I was rear ended and my insurance company found that the other driver was at fault. They are trying to collect their payout and my deductible from the other company. The other company is a less than well known and stellar company. The accident was 3 months ago.

I want to get a new car and the rates on the car I want with my current insurance company are not competitive at all. I was told by my broker that I can't look for another company until this claim is closed.

Is this true? I have zero influence over how they resolve this or if they ever do. They determined it wasn't my fault so why am I the one left holding the bag?

Edit to clarify: The issue is they say no other insurance company will touch me with an open claim pending. Though the car is fixed and they (my insurance company) paid the claim (other than my deductible).

Styrbar executes GH automation....for one button only

I had bought and had no luck getting an automation with Styrbar and Google Home to work. Recently, I noticed a light was on a few times when I didn't turn it on. I looked at history and it turns out I was hitting the Styrbar I threw in a drawer which was activating an automation to turn the light on.

Great. My question is it only shows press, long press and long press release in the GH app as triggers. Is there anyway to get the any other triggers to work (like the dimming buttons)?

Connecting 3/8 PVC panels

I am making a rectangular box out of 3/8" pvc trim board (8" wide) to protect an outdoor tv. There will be no back but a flip up door. The total dimensions of the box are 39"x25"x8".

My question is what is the best method to secure these 4 pieces together at the corners since it is only 3/8" thick? I prefer not to see screws/bolts on the exterior. A 1/4 screw doesn't seem like it will provide much holding power.

This is solely to protect the tv and is not structural at all (the tv mount is attached to the house directly) I plan to caulk around it where it attaches to the house.

Large outdoor fountain

I want to build a rectangular outdoor fountain that is 2 H x 6 L x 2W. The inside will have a liner and the outside will be tiled. The fountain part will simply be a couple of nozzle heads. I've watched a few videos where they either used concrete or cinder block. I'd rather not do that as there are a lot of tree roots and digging is difficult.

Any suggestions on what to use? My working plan is to make a pressure treated 2x4 frame and cover it with cement board inside and out. I'd probably put down felt or something to protect the liner.

What to do when none of the biting advice works?

As the title says. Our 5 month old Great pyrenees is biting aggressively (we've had him 3 months). The jumping is also hurting us. We have scratches and bites all over the place. This is not simple nipping like a lot of sites talk about. I don't want to exaggerate...the dog is not going to rip our throat out, but it is painful and sometimes blood is drawn. Once he starts we are rarely able to calm him down.

We excercise him a lot with walks, hikes and playing. He is a good dog most of the time but hellfire when the biting kicks in.

The puppy was neutered right before we got him.

We have tried everything I have read including standing up, walking away, turning around, redirecting to a bone/toy, etc. I also try a change of scene like going from one room to the next or to the deck from inside, etc. These generally don't work or are very short lived. Sometimes a tug of war toy will work but it is not like I can do that all day.

Ultimately we wind up having to put him in his crate so we don't get hurt more. This has also become difficult when he is aggressive as he knows all our "moves" and can bite us when we grab the harness handle. The dog is 50+ pounds and very strong.

We are afraid we are going to have to rehome him or return him to the rescue. We love him and are very attached and are trying to be very patient but we can only take so much.

Any other suggestions? The videos I watch are mostly comical as it is a 12 pound dog nipping at the owner and not a big dog with the front legs down in the attack position. We understand he is teething and it is not his fault.

Parental controls asks for pin when not needed and doesn't work

I subscribed to VIX premium using my pin on 1 device. Went to a tv with a Firestick 4k. Tried to watch a show on VIX. It asks for a PIN. 1) It won't let me enter the pin and 2) no pin should be needed as there is no purchase being made. The PIN has a 5 in it which is the center button. It did not register the center button (select) to enter the pin. I tried many times. The center button obviously works as otherwise I couldn't select anything anywhere.

I got around this by changing the pin to not include a 5 but that shouldn't be necessary.

Install eye bolt into masonry

I want to attach a shade sail to my masonry garage. What would be the best/easiest thing to get a strong hold? I prefer to drill into the mortar rather than the brick itself.

I noticed on my house Comcast has some kind of hook for the cable support line attached into the mortar but I'm not sure how they install or what they are called.

Basement standpipe - type of donut?

I want to install a standpipe in my basement floor drain. I've seen 2 types of donut hubs. One is just a simple rubber donut you force in. The other has multiple screws you can tighten to get a good fit. The latter seems easier to install (but harder to find). Which one is better? Any other advice?

I want to connect a PVC standpipe to the drain.

Seat belt wrapped around headrest

2018 Compass Limited. Somehow the rear passenger side seatbelt got wrapped around the posts of the headrest so that seat can't be folded down and there is no usable seatbelt for that seat. The seat belt seems siezed...though it has an inch or so of movement. The headrest won't come out which would solve the issue.

We had one person press the headset release button and one try to hit the headrest with a rubber mallet. Nothing.

Any suggestions (short of mechanic or disassembling the car)?

One thing I think might work is covering the area with plastic/rags and trying liquid wrench (or similar) on the headrest posts.

Pea Gravel delivery for northside?

I need to have 8 tons of decorative pea gravel for a path/patio delivered to my parkway on the Northside. II'm not finding many places that have decorative pea gravel. So far I found one on Roosevelt but it is kind of far (and hence more $$$). Any suggestions?

Another place I found in Des Plaines only had construction pea gravel.

The patio will be at grade so there won't be any additional digging. I'm pretty sure it's a maple tree.

I decided to pick up a hotel pan for when I need to cook large quantities of things. I am thinking of braises and rice. My question is, should I get a hotel pan lid? Is it sufficient enough or would I still need to use foil? If I need to use foil it's really not doing anything for me.

Also, would you get a 4" or 6" deep? I need to cook rice for 50 people tomorrow and want to do it in the oven. In the future I can see using it for braising beef shanks.
