Another sinus infection

How long do you guys let yourself feel like shit before going to the doc to get treatment?

Also, have any of you actually gotten your issues cultured to know exactly what's going on in there? I'm tired of just always getting random antibiotics that don't seem to do anything.

Yet another sinus infection

I cried at something cute on Instagram last weekend. The pressure and exhaustion started on Tuesday. I didn't put the two together until this morning, when I dragged my ass out of bed and had so much pressure below my eyes and behind my nose it was making me dizzy.

I also had taken a three hour nap on Tuesday and pretty much slept all day yesterday. Now I'm at work, staring at my computer screen, just wanting to die. I'm on Mucinex, ibuprofen, and I used my nasal rinse this morning. I can barely function.

I've been to three ENTs and had countless appointments to my GP. They usually just give me antibiotics and send me on my way.

I don't have snot or drainage. Just pressure. And my eyes feel swollen.

I've had to cancel my plans this weekend because I just can't imagine I'll have the energy to walk around all day at the Woodward Dream Cruise. 😭

This sucks.

Someone knocked my scooter over... again

I came home from work to find my Buddy 125cc knocked over. I even had it on its peg stand for better stability. It spilled gas all over the cover and the street and the compartment reflector is cracked to shit. It's also scuffed like someone hit it.

Why don't people give a shit? I wouldn't drive into someone's scooter or motorcycle in the first place, but how's about you pick the fucking thing up if you knock it over?

Dropped my scooter on my legs

I had to get off my scooter to walk it across some gnarly construction. I accidentally locked the steering wheel, and when I went to move it, it fell on my right leg (and scraped my left ankle).

This after scraping the bejeezes out of my right leg with my kick stand two weeks ago. 🙄

The scooter is ok. I popped a lens off of the left turn signal but I can put that back on.

Going up at Granville and Broadway

I saw this during a morning walk. Flock camera or cell antenna?

I looked up Arium and they install small cell networks, but when I did a Google reverse image look-up, it said it was a flock camera.

Thoughts?

One of my windowsill pigeons

This one is new, only been coming by for about a week. But he's so pretty. And I pet him while I was scarfing down seeds. 😁

Is there a bathroom code spreadsheet?

As I am experiencing more issues as I get older, and more bathrooms are locked behind codes that would cause an accident if I stopped and asked, is there a website or a Google sheet that has bathroom codes on it?

For instance, Pedestrian Coffee on Belmont has a bathroom code of 7979. 😁

Scooter haulin' on a VW Golf?

I have a 2011 VW Golf. I also have a rather finicky 2009 Buddy 125.

I was wondering if anyone with a smaller car has successfully put on a hitch and a transporter/hauler?

I was thinking nothing big, something like above.

Thoughts?

Scooter kept stalling on way to work

Good morning, y'all.

Drove my scoot to work today. Let it warm up, took off. About 5 minutes into my ride, it started feeling weird, bogging down and not accelerating. Then it just stalled out. I was able to get it running again, but it would stall out every 5-10 minutes. I smelled gas, so I knew something was going on.

Here's what's been done to this scooter in the last month:

  • tune up (i honestly don't know all of what they did)
  • new battery
  • new spark plug housing (i don't know about the spark plug.)
  • new electric wiring for the turn signals

Yes, i had gas.

I ran out of gas completely on July 2. Then it wouldn't start at all. The mechanic said it was the spark plug, that the housing had come loose and wasn't working properly. I got it back July 9. Rode it the 10th and 12th. Today, it decided to be a jerk.

So, carb? Fuel filter? Check the spark plug again?

I don't know what happened between yesterday and today that would cause it to do this.

Scooter won't start

Good afternoon, my people.

I have a 2009 Buddy 125cc. I bought it in April.

I got a tune up right after I bought it. Rode it with no problems for two months.

On June 21, I rode it about 2 miles. Turned it off for an hour. Got back and it was dead. Like dead as a doornail. Like not a peep, not a movement, not a sound.

I bought a new battery, thinking it was that. But the main fuse was blown. Replaced the fuse. Bike started up, I got home.

It was dead again the next day. Replaced the fuse. Started it back up. Drove it more that week. Took it to work, about 11 miles. Took it out at lunch. Turned it off, tried to restart it, dead. Replaced the fuse AGAIN, wrote it back to work. It started up after work and I took it to the mechanic.

They replaced the fuse and the housing. Went from a glass fuse to a flat plastic fuse. They took it out for a test drive. Nothing bad happened. I took it home, rode it that night, took it to work this morning. No problems.

It died WHILE I WAS RIDING IT this morning. To be fair, I was on empty, but when I went to put the hazards on, nothing happened. Turn signals, horn, light... all dead. So gas or power?

I replaced the fuse AGAIN. Turned the key to see if it was getting power, but didn't try to start it because I thought I was out of gas.

Got gas. Filled it up. Tried to start it. Ignition fires but won't turn over.

It's a new battery. New fuse. I can't seem to kick start it because I can't get the OOOMPH to get it to fire.

I know I need to get the wiring replaced, but why TF is it not starting now??

More pigeon eggs

As some of you might know, we have windowsill pigeons. They've made a pretty good (yet disgusting) nest on our dining room ledge, which they have used to lay several clutches. This last bunch are still juveniles, so I thought it would be a while before they "got down" again.

Nope.

Two little eggs in their nest. Again.

I wanted to remove the whole gross nest before they used it again, but they were too fast. I don't think their lastest kids can't even fly yet! They have moved out of the best and on the other side of the ledge.

Those eggs have been there less than four days. Can I remove the eggs? Will they be mad at me? Will it make them sad? Should I buy fake eggs?

I feel like I'm facing an ethical dilemma here.

Here's a pic of their latest spawn. They're very cute.

Sunrise June 21

Got up at 4:30am to see the sunrise.

Had a horrible weekend with a friend's funeral and I just wanted some beauty and peace.

I was not disappointed.

Battery died

I rode my scooter to Montrose Harbor this morning to watch the sunrise. 30 minutes later, I went back and it wouldn't start.

I am not mechanically inclined. I checked the cable that comes out from the starter. I couldn't check the battery because I didn't have a Philips to open the compartment.

Now my Buddy 125 is at Montrose Harbor with a dead battery.

I have a battery jumper for my car. I also have a Schumacher battery charger given to me by the previous owners. But what I'm reading is that it takes 12-24 hours for a battery to charge??

It also does help that it's Sunday and it's going to rain all day starting at 10.

I have AAA. Can they help a dead scooter?

Can someone help me out?

So Annoying

A few weeks ago, DD was offering up to $2 extra per delivery when my zones were busy. Now they're offering 50¢ extra per delivery. And every zone is "Busy" or "Extra Busy."

So they need more drivers but won't pony up the extra cash to make it worth our while like last month?

It's almost as if they're the ones who have to pay $5 a gallon to fill up their tanks. 🙄

Storms in central Illinois tomorrow

Is anyone planning on posting up anywhere in particular for tomorrow's storm in central Illinois?

I'm in Chicago and planning on heading down to Peoria in the morning to see what happens in the afternoon.

New pibbins on my windowsill

I was sitting in my chair next to my window and my favorite pigeon, Peanut, stopped by for a snack. And he brought some friends! They were so pretty. I wanted them to stick around longer but Penny, my resident territorial pigeon, does flew in and scared them off. But I got some pictures.

The first pic is Peanut. He's banded. I can't quite read the number but he's local to Chicago. The other two are his friends.

Friend in hospice

I have a friend who is dying of a brain tumor. He is no longer really eating and is unresponsive. We are planning on visiting.

He is a relatively close friend. He's the husband of my friend's sister. We have been doing group outings for over 10 years. I went to his daughter's wedding. He's a big gamer and has hosted so many rock band parties. He had a huge D&D group my sister was a part of. He is hilarious and kind hearted and a big goofy nerd.

I know that hearing is the last thing to go. But what do you say to someone who is dying?

Talk about daily stuff? Talk about past things? Talk about how all of this really sucks and I wish it wasn't happening?

I always worry about saying the wrong thing. Will thinking of the past upset him because he won't ever do those things again? Will talking about daily life upset him because of the same reason? I'm trying not to be selfish and focus on how I feel.

Any suggestions?

I'm still learning

I decided to dash last night. Took my sister along with me for a laff.

I live in Chicago right by the lake. There are a ton of restaurants by me. It's a great place to dash.

The first job pops up. It's $16 for a pizza delivery. The place is just up the road and we order from it all the time. Sweet. I accept.

Go get the pizza. Click to get directions to the delivery spot.

A hotel by O'Hare Airport. Seriously??

I did that one and one more after that. It took me two hours. Two hours to do two dashes. WTF?

I'm still kinda new to this. I need to learn to look at the map and distance AND the money before accepting. Sigh.
