Quick heads-up for anyone in or near London:The 30th Mind Sports Olympiad runs 22–30 August at the Mercure Hotel in Earls Court (SW6).It’s a big multi-day event with tournaments across a huge range of games, including:

• Catan (classic + Cities & Knights + new 2-player)
• Wingspan
• Carcassonne
• 7 Wonders
• Ticket to Ride
• Azul, Splendor, Dominion and many more modern board games
• Plus classic mind sports: chess (FIDE rapid/blitz), Scrabble, poker, Sudoku/puzzles, and the World Team & Individual Backgammon Championships

There’s also the Pentamind for the best all-rounder.Open to all ages and skill levels. Medals in every event.

If anyone’s looking for something a bit different to do in London this week, the 30th Mind Sports Olympiad is taking place at Mercure London Earls Court from 22–30 August.

There are nine days of games and competitions including chess, backgammon, Catan, Carcassonne, Scrabble, poker, Sudoku, Ticket to Ride, puzzles and lots more.

You can enter events if you fancy competing, but spectating is completely free, so you’re also very welcome just to come along, watch and have a look around.

We’ll also have a large board-gaming area and an extensive games library, so it should be a pretty fun place to meet people and play some games during the week.

There are players coming from all over the world, including the Backgammon World Individual and Team Championships, which are being held in the UK for the first time.

Hi everyone! We’ve got three Catan tournaments at the 30th Mind Sports Olympiad in London:

🏅 Saturday 22 August – Catan Qualifier
4 qualifying rounds, with the top 4 progressing to an evening final.

🎲 Sunday 23 August – Catan 2-Player Tournament
A head-to-head Catan competition.

🏰 Monday 24 August – Catan: Cities & Knights
For players who like their Catan with a little more complexity.

Adults and juniors all play together, and junior players are eligible to win both the main medals and separate junior medals.

The Mind Sports Olympiad features nine days of Catan, chess, backgammon, Scrabble, Ticket to Ride, poker, puzzles and many more games.

Anyone can enter, and there are medals to be won across the Catan events.
