Do Not Disturb?

When I’m at a hotel I put up the Do Not Disturb tag and leave it on my entire stay. I don’t need someone to make my bed or move my things. I keep reading about stewards cleaning one’s room each and every day, sometimes multiple times a day and I do not want that — I take it there’s no problem telling them to just leave your cabin be?

Neutral/cool DARK setting powder?

I can NOT find a neutral or slightly cool dark setting powder. I prefer loose but at this point would take pressed. Why are ALL dark browns for WOC so warm? Not everyone is so warm and I am not trying to lighten my skin, either!

Help!

Quiet quitting a friend and tables turned lol

After 15 years of friendship with this person, which involved me being there for a WHOLE LOT of drama and discontent and hyper-persistent negativity (resisting every attempt at support given to actually change things), I’m done. No amount of encouragement helps, only absorbing all the misery. No facet of their life is good at all (they announce regularly) but the have refused to make any changes so that their life might get better (change in job, change in relationship, change in any way). For 15 years. I also recently had to accept that they are genuinely petty, unforgiving (to anyone), very unkind to their partner. They have an endless well of self-pity and if after a long time of commiserating on the subject you try to say anything positive, they double down on their crap attitude.

The last month or so I just will not provide the unconditional support over BS whining, I change the subject, or offer food for thought on the matter. This is not okay, apparently. Previously, the “worst” I might do is try (maybe too hard, at times) to insist they actively address the given issue (make changes). Now I’m giving actual pushback, and twice now it’s devolved into an actual argument (by text; about 5 years ago this person stopped using the phone to talk, at all).

I don’t argue with friends, that’s a boundary too far. Life is too short.

Anyway, it’s funny to me because I was thinking I was just going to quietly back off but now that I’m not an inexhaustible sounding board and cheering section, they’re done with me, too. I’m not quite inwardly screaming, “what do you mean I’m fired?! I QUIT!!” but there’s a touch of that feeling.

I’m laughing at myself.

Interrupted menopause?

I’m 55 and about 16 months into menopause. Now I’m having cramping/crampiness and a bit of a period. Started these injections 2 weeks ago. Have not lost weight, and am on a low opening dose (25u, unsure of how that translates into mg because I’m away from home). I’m on estrogen patches/oral progesterone, for a year.

Any other women have this happen?

Overwhelmed — rate my stack?

I (55F) take so many things now it’s kind of ridiculous. But … I can’t seem to stop trying to find useful supplements. Reading posts here always baits me in. I’m thinking of adding L-theanine, too!

I have no chronic diseases, low BP, am about 40 lbs overweight. Recently started tirzepitide as I have chronically-elevated CRP levels, not ex op eating to lose a lot of weight with it. Still I really want to protect my muscles.

I reckon my only really key supplements are Mag G, Vit D, HMB, L-Leucine, and creatine, but I take a lot more than those. As for brands I stick with NOW, Nutricost, and Life Extension.

Anyway, feel free to tell me I’m crazy or weigh in on what I should absolutely keep or absolutely nix. Thanks 🙏

Daily:
L-glutamine (powder) — just started
Glycine (powder)
L-Leucine
HMB
Creatine
Berberine (3/day w meals)
Chromium
Quercetin
Magnesium glycinate
Alpha-lipoic acid
Astaxanthin — about to start
Omega-3 (Nordic Naturals)/ground flax seed
Saw Palmetto/pumpkinseed oil
Vit D & K2
Liposomal C twice a day)
Benfotamine (B1)
B2
Protein (usually collagen powder)
Prebiotic fiber blend (powder)
Psyllium fiber

Any wildlife photographers who have done Alaska?

Hi there. I’m a longtime photography enthusiast, but the longest lens in my gear is a 55-250mm (I also have a 70-200mm which is a bit better optically but not as useful as the broader range of the first lens I mentioned).

I’m not birding or anything; for other wildlife did any of you have cause to use something with a 300-400mm reach?

Thanks!

Why are the hormones we take dangerous but the ones we made for so many years (far in excess of our dosing) were what kept us healthy?

The title …

I am pro-HRT, and the fear and hesitancy around them troubles me.

Molecules are molecules, the elements involved in a given molecule are fixed. If the chemical structure makes the molecule, how does “synthetic” matter? C18H24O2 (estradiol) is not estradiol if that formula is varied, right? So are the hormones we take/use just similar, or are they identical? If they’re identical how can they be harmful? Is it because we’re only getting estradiol and not the other two estrogens?

Help it make sense!

Edit: I do know you have to have progesterone w estrogen it really IS dangerous, and also that not all practitioners think HRT is not a good idea.

With a headcold? Really?

Update: guy’s cold resolved by chapter 11 or so 😏

Am listening to Echo Park by Michael Connelly. The narrator is clearly ill — all stuffed up (he narrated the previous title in the series so I know his voice, plus it’s just obvious). Why?! Surely this kind of thing isn’t ever done on a last-minute basis. It’s not like commercial/advertising voice work which often needs quick turnaround. It was a wild choice. Guy is trying to do a distressed female now and it sounds so weird with his congestion.

My (51F) little sister (49F) just had a mastectomy 2 days ago. She went home same afternoon which I gather is typical now. She had no lymph node involvement or muscle involvement, no expanders were placed. Since getting home she’s been taking only Advil and Tylenol. Yesterday (day after she got home) she went to the grocery store with our other sister … she denies any pain. Today she showered and washed her own hair. She’s sleeping fine.

Is this unusual? I was expecting her to be really out of it and in pain for a few days, and having moderate pain going forward for a few weeks, and I thought getting up and down was brutal and for sure raising your arms. She seems essential fine.

Don’t get me wrong I’m very happy for her, just surprised!

I know size isn’t everything, but …

The bigger capsule is 100mcg K2 from NOW. They bulk it out with alfalfa bits, according to the label. It’s not a big one, really, but it’s not tiny.

I don’t have an example of a typical Vit D3 capsule but they aren’t small, I know that for sure.

The smaller capsule pictured, unusually small for any supplement in my experience, is Nature’s bounty 100mcg K2 MK-7 *with* 4000U Vit D3.

  1. Is this possible, or is Nature’s Bounty scamming us?

  2. If it \*is\* possible, why are most capsules so big?

I am in early menopause (first year). I have estradiol cream to apply but I’m really bad about it as I don’t yet have symptoms requiring it but I want to stay ahead of the atrophy.

Last week I put it on/in 2 nights, one night apart.

Today I was cleaning out my nightside table and realized I ACCIDENTALLY USED TRETINOIN. YES, the treat is back in the bathroom where it belongs.

I know because the caps are the same but inverted (cone down vs cone up) and I noticed the shape last week (never had before.

I haven’t had pain but I have had some bloody (dark, sticky) discharge. My poor tender vagina! 😫

Obviously I won’t put ANYTHING (chemical or otherwise) in there for a week (and it’s already been 4 days), but is there anything else I should do?

Thanks,

A Complete Dope

I started bupropion last week and am having the pretty typical fast heart rate. I have a bottle of low-dose propranolol (10mg) I was prescribed to take as needed for anxiety … I almost never take it. Anyway, would it be okay to take one and see if it helps?

Note what I am really asking is if any of your doctors have said NOT to take a beta blocker with bupropion or suggested it might be risky. My drug reference does say bupropion may increase potency of propranolol but it’s already a low dose and it’s immediate release so I could break it in two and take 5mg.
