Hello! I’m looking to compile a list of the jazz jams that happen in the metro area and up north.

I know of the Monday Meadowlark jam, which is a very… uptight jam, to put it lightly.

Tuesday there’s a jam over Joe Willys (formerly at monolith) that I think is run by Kevin Lufkin, who is a fantastic pianist and a warm guy!

Wednesday there’s the jam at Roxy’s and the house band rotates throughout the month

Beyond these, I don’t know what jazz jams are out and about! If you know about one, please comment about it here! Be sure to include the location, timeframe, any restrictions, and how welcoming the space is to non-professionals.

I am currently visiting CDMX and am having a great time. I saw Luca Libre last night and was thrilled with the performance. I saw outside the stadium many masks were being sold, and I was tempted to buy some for my nieces, and maybe one for myself to display, but I didn’t really know if it was appropriate for that to be gifted to two young girls who live in The South. Can I get a little guidance here on what’s appropriate?

The times between our two countries are very sad. Families being ripped apart, Mexican people who did nothing wrong being put in camps and deported, if they’re not killed first. This makes me deeply unhappy, but I know for the people who it affects it is heartbreaking and deadly.

My sister (my nieces’ mother) is a Russian immigrant (though she moved to the States at a very young age) and voted for Trump almost solely because of immigration issues. She works as a doctor and she thinks that illegal immigrants take away hospital funding from “real citizens.” I have very different opinions personally, but I won’t get into all that.

I went and bought them each a pink luchador mask. Maybe it will help my nieces realize through Mexican culture that Mexicans are not our enemies. I can’t do much, but maybe this will help… one can hope.

I have soldered an ESP32 chip on a dev board to my N64 and was wondering if the same might be possible for a 90001 slim. I really think all I would need to know is where I can intercept the circuit from the motherboard to the controller socket. But I’d also need to know where player 5+ is controlled if I want to do multitap configuration.

Title says most of it. My tongue seems to place itself automatically at the back of my soft pallet (for those linguistically inclined, my tongue is in the same position as a uvular fricative like /χ/). It hurts my soft pallet! This blocks any air going through my nose. The most interesting part is that even while I sneeze, I can force air out of my nose manually, and it will work; but still none of the “sneeze air” will come out. WHY CANT I SNEEZE?!

Gandalf the Maia was a grand and wise creation of Eru, but even he did some silly things in his time as an Istar. One such example are the incantations he spoke at the Doors of Durin in book 2 (FotR) of Lord of the Rings. Below is the relevant passage:

Many times he repeated these words in different order, or varied them.”

Let’s start with the translation of the first half of the Sindarin passage. *Annon Edhellen, panto edro hi ammen!* translates effectively, to me, as “Open sesame!”It translates literally as “Door Elvish, open now for us,” but for all intents and purposes, and for all the good it does, he’s chanting a nursery rhyme at the door.

Next is *Fennas Nogothrim, lasto beth lammen!* This one sounds more grand, but ultimately is more of the same, in both context and effect. It reads “Doorway [of the] Dwarven-Folk, listen(!) [to the] word of my tongue!” It almost comes across bratty to me and has the feel of “What the fuck, door! Just listen to me!”

Not only that, but he repeated these useless spells many times and even changed the word order to make it slightly different. Honestly not a great look.

So, just to enhance your image of Gandalf, you can see even he can be a little goofy sometimes.

Hello, i have a sandisk SD *express* card and a sandisk sd express specific reader. I am getting 35 MB/s transfer speeds on sequential files. My UHS-II v60 (with a different reader) goes at 250 MB/s with the same files. What am I doing wrong?? The card is formatted exFAT just like the UHS-II card. They both are (not at the same time) plugged into the same port on my mobo that should be supplying 40 W of power and a large transfer speed!
