Taking an 11PM (13-hour) flight from FCO to MEX. Lands at 5AM. Will it be dark on the plane? Based on other people's experience with late-night flights from Europe to West Coast, are most people likely to go to sleep or is there likely to be a lot of chatter?

Never flown this route before. Flying business.

Maybe this is a bit pedantic. I bought a business flight from FCO at 150k points for wife and me for September. Now regretting it. What are your thoughts?

First, we're arriving back at 11pm on Sunday night (layover in SEA first), which I was never very enthusiastic about.

Then – and I know this is probably widely known – but I learned there's no WiFi on the 787s. Alaska says Starlink will be installed by "Fall" but based on previous times Alaska says Spring or Fall, I think it's fair to say it won't be by September. We were planning to get some work done on the way back given it's a daytime flight.

I know people say 150k points one-way isn't a good redemption for business anyways. That said, I have a pretty hard time getting significant cpp flying out of the Bay Area and to the destinations I fly (e.g., I mostly travel to Mexico, and I don't really travel to Asia), and I've racked up a lot of points that are getting tough to use with all of the Bay Area cuts.

Trying to figure out sign-up value in Bilt Palladium.

I'm mostly fixed on the sign-up amount and less concerned with ongoing value. Here's what I can see.

$495 annual fee

  • 50k points = $500 at a bare minimum
    • Likely 50-100% more with Hyatt, Alaska, or United
  • $300 Bilt Cash
    • Is this worth $300 usually? Is it easy to use?
  • $200 bi-annual travel credits
    • How easy is this to use?

In 34H, what's the strategy here? Do they just love the middle seat or is this just someone hoping no one will book to left or right of them especially on a flight like SEA-FCO?

I am transferring Rakuten to Bilt for 5/15 but I don't have status. Will I still be able to transfer to Alaska or Hyatt at a 1:1 this time?

Reminder to set up Multi-Factor Authentication!

I just got a code sent to my phone but didn't sign in any time recently. Thankfully I set up MFA a month ago. Go set it up for yourselves if you haven't already!

Bit concerned about crowds in mid September after seeing some videos this week of places that aren't even Trevi, the Vatican, etc. I have a trip planned Sept 17 - 20th. Will crowds likely be just as bad?

I don't care that much about crowds at the main sites but the videos I've seen it's packed like sardines even on random streets.

Please don't comment if you've not been in the last year or two. Tourism seems to have spiked in recent years.

First time in Rome, only 3 days. Not sure The Goethe is really worth $200 more a night. Any other suggestions for under $400 a night?

I've never come across this before. For example, SFO-SAN-ORD on 11/21 is $418 in business class of 47.5k points + $6. That's not even 1 cpp.

Similarly, SJC-GDL on 11/22 is 32.5k + $62 points in main or $346.

Most of the flights I've looked up seem to be at or lower than 1cpp (unless it's an absurdly expensive first class ticket) whereas I used to always get 1.1-1.4 cpp at a bare minimum.

Has anyone else felt that the miles/points deals don't seem to be worse than before?
