Biggest improvement to accuracy?

I have a Tikka T3X Superlite, with Walnut stock.

https://i.imgur.com/w4MdsCW.jpeg

Its absolutely gorgeous. I bought it from a friend who hunts deer, and for his purposes it was perfect. I have found, as it was my first bolt action rifle, that I prefer to shoot paper target at medium and long range. I did not really enjoy hunting.

I know the superlite fluted barrel is not ideal for target. But i had a question, that i did not want to ask in r/Longrange yet as they answer to everything is just spend spend spend....

I have a problem. The barrel is not threaded. The stock is wood, and not bedded. Though it is torqued to spec.

My question is, will i get better precision keeping the wood stock, and getting a replacement barrel that is non fluted profile that is threaded and can take a brake..... OR, Keep the excellent, but prone to heat walking super thin barrel, and a chassis that wont flex or work its way loose.

I am OK with shooting VERY slowly and managing heat.

The barrel is extremely accurate, but it does have an upward recoil and I lose sight of target. I know this is a split function of hunting stock that doesnt help too much with putting recoil straight back, and the barrel thats not compensated to help reduce recoil.

I can only afford one option. Which do you think would be a better use of my money. Chassis.... or Barrel + Brake?

i know eventually im going to have to probably do both. OR, do i cut losses, sell the rifle as is, and put it towards a CTR?

“Snake/Rat shot” but in 12ga

Anyone heard of the equivalent of Snake shot / rat shot, but through a 12ga?

Like super low power rounds that shoot like I dunno, dry beans, or airsoft bbs or super duper tiny lead at something low like 300-350fps.

I have rats on my property, and usually use an air gun to get them, but would be probably more effective to have a tiny shotgun. I don’t want to spend $600 on a “Garden gun”.

Was just curious.

.22 CMMg conversion bolt legality - CA

If I drop in a CMMG .22 conversion, it’s NOT an assault rifle anymore, correct?

I can have my features, removable .22 mags etc and it’s fine. Right?

Has Anyone taken a Pre 2007 Remington 1100, and made it tactical style?

I'm asking if anyone here has done it themselves.

The thing is, the older ones, are well built, reliable, durable etc.

You can get magazine tube extension, that makes it 8 shells in the tube +1, and its $79. Maybe Some aftermarket furniture.

Really good clean examples are about $600-700, and need maybe $200 worth of work to make it for all intents and purposes a nice tac shotgun. If you can live with wood furniture, a lit less... Just needs a $79 tube extension, and maybe tapped and drilled receiver, if it doesn't already have it. Cut the barrel down to 18.5" and its good to go.

Just seems like a way to make something reliable and good, but also different and not just another M4/1301/A300.

Recently discovered the high pressure gun cleaner cans. Whats safe for plastic parts?

I got a can of the Ultra Blaster gun cleaner and was finally able to clean the insides of the action on some of my older .22 rifles.

They are sparkling right now. I read on the can not to use it on polymer, as its basically brake cleaner like solvent.

Anything thats like that, high pressure with a straw nozzle to get into the trigger group and clean it out real good? The whole assembly is plastic, so i dont want to melt it. I see a lot of options, but curious if any one stands out as a run away best.

I feel like its good info for new owners too.

Adding threads to Tikka barrel

I have an older tikka T3X super light.

No threaded barrel. Has anyone successfully threaded one of those? The taper is pretty thin. I’m wondering if there is enough material.

Getting another barrel is a possibility of course, but a heavier profile barrel would mean a new stock as well. The costs would add up.

I just want to put a brake on to take some of the recoil down.

A LGS guy told me about some clamp on brake, but I dont know about that. Does that work? Would it throw off the harmonics?

What’s possible?

I get a major kick out of seeing the rounds fly. I can’t be the only one.

Not the best shooting on earth… but hits are hits.

Cheapo AR15, shooting frontier 55gr FMJ, w/ no name Stainless steel 18” .223 Wylde barrel, some cheap random nickel boron bolt carrier group, the cheapest vortex 4-12x I can find, and a $35 eBay super zoom potato video camera from 2010 to capture the glory.

But at least I get to watch the rounds make sonic booms all the way to the steel.

500 yards for the hanging 10” gongs. The cascade steel target is at 450 yards. Largest is 8”.

I worked hard for this one.

One round. 500 yards. 3mph wind left to right. Today it was shooting a touch high based on calculators , 2”.

Shot the rest of the day at 300.

Had one round left. Took it to 500.

Dailed in 11 +1click MOA. Calculator said 11.75. Held left edge of red dot.

Got as zen as possible. And release.

Bullseye. I have not felt this good in a while. The maths mathed. The force was strong with me today.

Not in the same place either. This is the collection over a year.

4x 40S&W, I found three at once. Hollow points, and then another road, a flat nose. 3 days ago I found the 2x AK bullets. The .22 are from like a year ago.

The 9mm I found last week.

It’s so weird.
