Best way to use Capital One Points to get from LAX to Thailand or Vietnam?

My partner and I each have about 100k points. I was thinking of purchasing one ticket with points and another with cash to avoid spending all our points at once. We are both hoping for an upgrade option with some extra legroom.

I was looking at getting tickets with Cathay Pacific — it seems you can get flights for about 75K points, but it doesn't specify whether you can upgrade those seats. I know it has to be a flight operated by Cathay, but can you upgrade that flight after purchase with points?

The goal is a 12- to 14-day trip that starts in either Vietnam or Thailand and ends at the opposite location to fly back. Some time in March or April.

Any advice is helpful — thank you!

A little budget audio and homelab crossover...

A Few More Photos

Thought I would share my apartment setup. A crossover of homelab and budget audiophile hobbies.

I have a basic N100 Mini PC that runs Proxmox. Its main job is a Technitium DNS backup server (a lot like PiHole). However, I added an additional LXC container to run as a headless Plexamp app.

  • I passed through the USB bus to my xDuoo TA-10R Tube Headphone DAC/Amp for lossless playback. I can pass through from the DAC/Amp to my receiver, or power on my headphones.
  • I can definitely hear a big difference, especially with my headphones.
  • The main Plex server in the lower left holds all the actual media.
  • You don't need Proxmox to do this — even a little Raspberry Pi can run as a headless Plexamp.

Audio Gear

  • xDuoo TA-10R Tube Headphone DAC/Amp
  • Sennheiser HD 6XX Headphones
  • Shure SRH1440 Headphones
  • Denon AVR-S660H
  • JVC TD-V1010 Stereo Cassette Deck
  • Marantz TT-15S1
  • Pro-Ject Phono Box DC Preamp
  • ELAC Debut 2.0 B5.2 Bookshelf Speakers

Homelab Gear

NAS

  • Noctua NH-U12S
  • Intel X520-DA2 10Gb Dual Port SFP+
  • ASUS Prime Z690M-Plus D4 Intel LGA 1700 DDR4
  • 128GB DDR4 RAM (4 x 32GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance Pro)
  • Corsair SF750 Platinum PSU
  • OEM 9300-8i 12Gbps HBA IT Mode
  • Six 14TB SATA Hard Drives
  • One 500GB Cache NVMe M.2 Drive
  • Two 1TB M.2 ZFS Mirror for Docker App Data
  • One 128GB 2.5" SSD as a Boot Pool

Both of these hobbies are really fun and really expensive. A lot of this gear was thrift store finds, gifts, or a lot of saving. The most recent change was putting the NAS into the Jonsbo N6 case, which fits right into the Ikea Kallax shelf unit.

Upgrade Question

I've been stuck on the audio gear side of things lately, and I think it's time for some new speakers. I really want some floor-standing speakers, but I'm unsure how necessary that is within this space. Looking for something that can fill the room at 65–70dB. Let's say a budget of $1K — what would you get and why? Bonus points if anyone's run floor-standers in a similarly sized apartment and can speak to whether bookshelf + sub would've served them just as well.

The body of the Shure SRH1440 is awful - and mine are falling apart

My Shure SRH1440 still sound great. But, all the plastic around the headband is falling apart. Additionally, when you extend the metal band in and out it makes tons of noise - rubs up against the hard plastic. I have never tied to rehouse headphones before, I am up for the challenge. Has anyone rehoused these before - or are there kits out there for doing this? I prefer the housing of the Sennheiser HD 6XX way over these. I don't travel with these, just use them in the living room with my amp / dac / record player.

[PC] ASUS RT-AX89X WiFi 6 Router

Not sure what to list the price as. It works well and I have the original box. Not exactly what homelab folks are after. I think you can install OpenWrt on here, but this has the original firmware.

It has: RJ45 for 10Gbps BaseT for WAN/LAN x 1, RJ45 for 1Gbps BaseT for LAN x 8, RJ45 for 1Gbps BaseT for WAN x 1
USB 3.1 Gen 1 x 2
SFP+ x 1

Any ideas on how to fix motor for Marantz TT-15S1

This record player was gifted to me about a decade ago, back when I was broke, but I’m still broke now. The motor does work, but makes a considerable about of noise. During any quieter parts of a song, you can hear the motor spinning. It’s not the belt, because it makes noise regardless of the belt is attached or not. Sometimes the motor also stalls, and I have to move the platter manually to get it going. I almost feel like I am missing a part, does something sit between the plastic part that spins and the metal motor? Parts for this thing is expensive, so I thought I’d post this here. Maybe all I need is a little machine oil? I’m open to any ideas, thanks!

I just spent the last hour scrolling through the Palestine Poster Project website, and I wanted to share it with it y'all, because some of this artwork is truly amazing.

From the website:
My research has two major components: (1) the development of a curriculum using the Palestine poster as a key resource for teaching the formative history of the Palestinian-Zionist conflict in American high schools. This aspect of my work is viewable in my New Curriculum and; (2) the creation of a web-based archives that displays the broadest possible range of Palestine posters in a searchable format with each poster translated and interpreted.

Bravo to this person, and anyone else involved in preserving these publications!

Any weight lifters here? What shoes should I get?

I have been doing some bodybuilding / strength training for the past 20 months or so. For lower body stuff I usually just take my shoes off, but I recently went to my doctor and they told me it be best if I wore a shoe of some kind. They did not have any real input of what one to get. I have medical grade inserts. I don't know if this will help, but at work and day to day stuff I wear Saucony Echols, they seem to help the best with my feet. Any input would be great, thanks!

How are you guys managing private trackers with arr stack?

I consider myself still pretty new to private trackers. Been on my MaM for a little under a year and recently got into HD Torrents and Seed Pool.

I really like the automation that the arr stack gives me. I tired to set up tags to make sure Prowlarr only uses Seep Pool, but it sometimes does not work. I also set the priority of the indexer to 1 and have my public trackers set to 25.

Ideally, I think I would like it if my private trackers to be the only ones used, UNLESS I do a manual search. Not sure the best way to set that up. But, I am also open to other setups that you guys might have input on. Thanks ahead of time!
