Pluck 1.2 update. New features - copy and relink assets, plus a recent/favourites tab
Hi all
Just a quick update on Pluck - v1.2 is now available and adds a couple of key new features.
For anyone not aware, Pluck allows you to import compositions from other projects, along with their dependencies and folder structures.
Copy and relink assets - As well as the default behaviour of maintaining links to assets on your system, you now have the option of copying and relinking assets to a new folder. This means you can edit artwork files without affecting the original project, and have a project completely independent of its parent project.
Smart match automatically places copied assets in the appropriate location on your system, so if you work in a studio with a standardised folder setup (Artwork, Footage, Audio etc) then Pluck will place things where they should go all in one operation without you having to manually choose a location.
There is a new Bookmark tab for recents and favourites. Fairly self explanatory, but you can now quickly access your most recent 10 projects you have 'Plucked' without having to browse or leave AE.
Click the new star icon in the Pluck comp list to add a comp to your favourites, and import them with one click. So if you have a template scene you use regularly, it lives in your favourites tab. You can rename them with aliases and rearrange the order.

Copycat plugins. Do some market research before you make a clone.
I'm generally in favour of all the new plugins coming out In fact, I think we're entering a golden age of plugins and add-ons. There are great products coming out on a regular basis now, and I love to see it.
But with all the various AI tools out there it only takes a few minutes to do some basic market research to see if what you're building already exists. And if it does, why create what is essentially just a clone? What is the point of making a plugin that has the same feature set as an existing one?
Making a copy of Flow, or True Comp Duplicator, or kbar, or another popular plugin, is not cool. It just comes across as trying to piggyback on an existing products success.
Solve a problem that has not been solved. Create something original. You can finally make the thing you always wanted to make, but didn't have the coding knowledge to enable you.

Import comps from other projects
Pluck is a plugin I've created that solves a problem that has been annoying me for years in After Effects in that it's incredibly painful trying to get old comps from previous projects into a new one. It's a very common workflow to repurpose old content. Lots of studios have ongoing clients or similar projects, or have built their own template libraries, but actually accessing them is hard.
You either have to import the whole project and manually clean up, or do a big round trip where you open the old project, find the comp you want, reduce that project, save it as another file, then import that into the project you're actually working on. Except the second way you end up with a redundant third project.
With Pluck you can drag and drop an old .aep file onto the panel, choose your comp (or comps) and hit import. It brings in just what you selected, plus any pre-comps, dependencies and assets. It will even mirror the folder structure from the source project.
There's a secondary function called Pluck Off, where you drop a comp from your active project onto the panel and it exports it as a standalone .aep, complete with dependencies. You can also export directly as a .zip for easy sharing.
It's on aescripts now with 20% off until May 16th: https://aescripts.com/pluck/
Would love to hear from anyone who's tried it, or if you've got a workflow this doesn't cover yet.
