Masterchef Xie Lian

Currently reading Volume 3, and WHAT A RIDE!!

From that dreadful trip down memory lane in the Xianle Kingdom, to the subtle, heart-melting HuaLian romance 🥹 now I’m in Puqi Shrine, laughing like I’ve completely lost my mind!

MY PRINCE, SIR. You’re supposed to be making a meal, NOT concocting a deadly poison and disguising it as stew! THE AUDACITY. THE CULINARY CRIMES. THE SHEER CHAOS 💀🤣

Everytime Xie Lian is in the kitchen, he’s like saying, “mmm, what kind of public health hazard should I cook today?” 😭🍲

I’M SCREAMING, CRYING, AND QUESTIONING EVERYONE’S SURVIVAL INSTINCTS 🤣🤣🤣

(duì bu qǐ, I don’t know which flair to use.. image was from pinterest)

Which Cdrama made you say“Nope, I’m dropping this. Adios!” 👀

Whether it’s because the story was terrible, the plot stopped making sense, the pacing was painfully slow, or you dropped it for the pettiest reason.. what made you finally say, “Yeah… I’m done.”?
I’ll go first!

Veils of Shadows
I want to like it. I REALLY do. But Ju Jingyi’s makeup is distracting me so much that I literally cannot get past Ep1. I’m sorry. Maybe it gets better, but my eyes are fighting for their lives.. same reason with In Blossom and The Eternal Fragrance.. watched the trailers first coz I don’t want to ragewatch..

The Blossoming Love
Everyone keeps saying it’s really good… and I believe you! Maybe it’s just not the right time for me. Maybe I’m just not in the mood. Maybe I’ll pick it up again someday. Maybe that day will never come. Maybe I’ll change my mind. Maybe I won’t 😅

A Dream Within A Dream
I LOVE Li Yitong (she’s gorgeous!!!) But I just couldn’t stand her character. The comedy also wasn’t landing for me.. maybe the comedic timing just isn’t my thing. I painfully tried to like it for at least 5 eps, but eventually I had to admit defeat..

The Legend of Zhouhua
I made it to Ep 20-ish before dropping it. It was just TOO. SLOW. I kept telling myself, “Okay, it’s going to pick up soon.” Then… it didn’t. And eventually my attention span filed for divorce.

Perfect Match
This one is still sitting in my “Continue Watching” like it pays rent. LOL.. I got bored after the first couple (still got 4 sisters!!) and just… stopped. Maybe I’ll pick it up again someday. Maybe I’ll just let it remain there forever as a monument to my unfinished Cdrama collection.

Love Like the Galaxy
Okay, don’t come for me. I dropped it around Ep 30 because of the FL. I LOVE Zhao Lusi, but her character annoyed me SO MUCH. And her and her mom being stubborn together was driving me insane. I eventually picked it up again… and then proceeded to skip straight to the last episode because apparently I just needed “closure” 😂
No honestly, I just watched it for Li Yunrui (sorry not sorry)

Now I want to know yours! So I can skip it too 🤣
Which Cdrama did you drop… and was it for a completely valid reason or a petty one?

okay, hear me out 😭

I haven’t started Genius Girlfriend yet, but I somehow stumbled across clips of the proposal scene and THAT KISS????

HU YITIAN. SIR. 😭

What kind of comeback is this?! I was absolutely not prepared. I’m already giggling and kicking my feet over a drama I HAVEN’T EVEN WATCHED. 😂

Gonna binge-watch all weekend 😁

Please recommend a C-drama where my blood pressure stays normal.

Gave in to the recs and finally watched Love Like the Galaxy, only to drop it at Episode 32… then came later just to watch the finale. 💀

My face literally breaks into a smile every time Wu Lei comes on screen (cue Lana Del Rey’s Young and Beautiful 🎶), but I still can’t bring myself to finish the remaining episodes. I don’t know… everyone’s just so mean. 😭

The only people I genuinely looked forward to seeing were the Emperor, the Empress, and Consort Yue. I enjoyed watching them so much.

And then there’s Li Yun Rui, my favorite C-drama husband. I refuse to sit there and watch my man suffer in HD. My delulu heart 💔

Anyway… please recommend a costume romance drama where the main couple is actually happy together. Minimal misunderstandings, no endless noble idiocy, and if there are problems, I want the leads facing them as a team instead of against each other. I also like a strong and/or smart FL and hopelessly devoted ML.

Here are some of my favorite series:

  1. The Coroner’s Diary
  2. Kill Me Love Me - this made me cry buckets! But I love it, I love the soundtrack too..
  3. Threads of Destiny
  4. The Imperial Coroner
  5. Blossom
  6. The Double
  7. Pursuit of Jade
  8. Legend of the Female General
  9. A Familiar Stranger
  10. Youthful Glory
  11. The Wanted Detective
  12. Prisoner of Beauty
  13. Flourished Peony / In the Name of Blossom
  14. New Life Begins
  15. Love of the Divine Tree
  16. Si Jin
  17. Love in the Clouds

I know some of the dramas on my list can absolutely make your blood pressure rise… But somehow, those are also the ones I ended up loving the most. You know what I mean? The pain, the frustration, the yelling at the screen… and then suddenly you’re emotionally attached. 🤡

So please help your girl out. I’m looking for a romance drama that won’t put my heart through another battlefield. 🥹

Filter

Just finished watching Filter, and myyy… this drama is so underrated.

Chemistry? LOOOOVE.
Comedy? Pure gold.
Life lessons? Well noted.
Background music? Absolutely obsessed.

This was such a fresh and heartwarming watch after I cried my heart and eyes out in Lost You Forever and Love Me, Kill Me.

I never thought I could love TJC even more after Lost You Forever, but here we are. And LLD… wow. I honestly didn’t think anyone could top her chemistry with ARP in The Coroner’s Diary, but she proved me wrong. They were amazing together. Also, she’s sooo pretty. Her smile is, hands down, the prettiest among all the C-drama actresses for me.

Is it perfect? No. It definitely has its flaws. But honestly, I don’t even care. This drama is packed with green-flag characters. For the first time, I watched a drama without a single character making my blood pressure spike, LOL.

The Lost You Forever Easter eggs were so much fun to catch! I was literally screaming when Fenglong showed up too. As someone who usually prefers costume and historical dramas, this officially takes the crown as my favorite modern C-drama so far.
