I watched nearly all of Justė Jocytė's games this season in the Spanish League, AMA

I was kind of baffled to why our first round pick last season decided to stay in Europe and delay her start with the Valkyries. So once she signed with Spar Girona and the Spanish League streams all their games for free, I started watching her minutes. I got to see her team up with Valks Laeticia Amihere and Chloe Bibby. And play against Kaitlyn Chen, Gabby Williams, Iliana Rupert, and Carla Leite throughout the season.

I think I have a good idea of what she brings to the Valkyries as still a young player (20).

Good:

  • Good catch and shoot three point shooter
  • Elite free throw shooter (90%+)
  • Very good passing vision and very willing passer
  • Good size as a combo guard at ~6'2" (1.88m)
  • Has ability to score at all three levels

Concerns:

  • Not quick off the dribble
  • Poor shooter when off balance or pressured
  • Can lose confidence when her shot isn't falling
  • Turnover prone, sometimes her passes are too ambitious
  • Tends to disappear in games at times

Justė Jocytė Update: She should be in the Bay by the end of the week, however she sprained her ankle

Girona lost in their playoffs in a heart breaker. So Juste is now free to join the Valkyries as soon as she can get to the Bay.

However, it appears she sprained her ankle in waning seconds of today's game and was taken out, unable to continue playing. She was able to hobble the bench under her own power but she looked dejected, understandably.

Here is the replay of how she hurt her ankle. Just a bummer because she's been healthy the whole season, never missed a game for Girona.

Notable: The Valkyries waited until the last possible moment to waive Kate Martin. Any another team would now have to waive a current player to sign her. Meanwhile, the team still has one development spot open...

Justė had a solid game today in a must win game, 16-3-5, good efficiency. She'll have two more games this week to advance to their finals.
