Do I need to collect checked baggage in Istanbul?

Hi everyone,

My fiancée is flying from Algiers to Dubai with Turkish Airlines, connecting at Istanbul Airport.

The two flights have different flight numbers (TK656 and TK764), but they are on the same booking and both are with Turkish Airlines.

Does she need to collect her checked baggage in Istanbul and check it in again, or will it be transferred automatically to Dubai?

Thanks!

Should I switch from Electron to Tauri for my offline-first application?

Hi everyone, I’m new to the community. I just wanted to get some advice.

I’m a web developer with 3 years of experience. Most of my past work has been with SaaS companies dealing with large amounts of data and cloud-based applications.

I recently joined a new company in a new country, and I’ve been tasked with building an offline simulation software that will capture data from sensors while also handling RBAC and a database.

The architecture requires WebSockets, REST APIs, and UDP protocols. The V1 of the web app is ready, but it was tested on my local machine. Basically, the software and the sensors communicate through Wi-Fi.

Since it needs to be an offline-first app, I initially wanted to package it as an Electron .exe. At first, I used Node.js with Express, React, and SQLite. It was a prototype and it worked, and the .exe wasn’t even that large — around 400 MB max. However, the code became too complex and there wasn’t really any proper structure. Most of it was also built with AI, so looking back, the way I approached it wasn’t great.

I then decided to use NestJS because of its opinionated structure and because there were some new requirements. So I rewrote the entire backend using NestJS and Prisma. It was a really good experience, and I got to learn NestJS along the way.

But when I tried to package everything into an .exe, it ended up being more than 700 MB. The tablets that the software is supposed to run on couldn’t handle it and wouldn’t even install it.

While researching possible alternatives, I came across Tauri, and it looks like it could be a really good choice for this kind of application, especially because of the much smaller bundle size.

My main concern is whether I’ll lose any of the features I currently have with Electron, especially since I need UDP, WebSockets, REST APIs, Prisma/SQLite, and offline functionality.

Could Tauri with a NestJS sidecar give me the smaller footprint without forcing me to rewrite or lose any of the functionality I already have?

Carpool request

Hi everyone,

I recently moved to Shabiya (Mussafah), Abu Dhabi, and I work in ICAD 3, Mussafah Industrial Area.

My office starts at 7:30 AM, but the company bus arrives at 6:25 AM, which is difficult for me to catch. The drive to my office is only about 30 minutes.

I’m looking for someone who drives from the Shabiya/Mussafah area toward ICAD 3 on weekday mornings (Monday–Friday) and would be willing to offer a ride.
I’m happy to contribute toward fuel and transportation costs.

If anyone travels on a similar route or knows someone who does, please send me a message.

Thank you!

Built a small AI outreach tool because manually customizing emails was driving me insane.

I built a small AI tool that automatically personalizes and sends outreach emails with attachments.

You paste contacts in plain text like:

Name | Role | Email

and it:

writes custom emails for each person

adapts tone based on role/company

attaches resumes/files automatically

sends sequentially with live progress tracking

Originally built it to automate job applications and recruiter outreach.

Looking for a few recruiters/agencies/job seekers to test it.

Second suspicious “LinkedIn recruiter” interaction today — deleted post + personal Gmail

Second time seeing this today.

A recruiter posts a tech job on LinkedIn with an attractive salary, asks candidates to send CVs to a personal Gmail account, then later deletes the post and continues the conversation privately through email.

This one:
• Had no company name
• Used a personal Gmail instead of a company domain
• Asked for CV review/tailoring details through email
• Had a very generic “portfolio”/job flow

Maybe it’s legit, maybe not — but please be careful out there.

As job seekers, especially in tech, we’re already applying everywhere and scammers know that.

Before sharing personal information:
• Verify the company
• Check recruiter history/activity
• Look for official domain emails
• Confirm employee presence on LinkedIn
• Be cautious with random calls and deleted posts

Sharing screenshots for awareness.

Stay safe.

I recently got contacted for a fully remote software engineering role by recruiters claiming to work with a company called “Kaizen.” The communication flow seemed somewhat normal at first:

  • asked for my resume + LinkedIn
  • asked about my English level
  • scheduled an HR interview on Google Meet

But the recruiters were using personal Gmail addresses instead of official company emails, which immediately made me cautious.

I joined the Google Meet briefly, but when the interviewer introduced himself as “John” and asked me to turn my camera on right away, something felt off to me, so I disconnected and restarted my PC afterward just to be safe.

Later I did find that there actually is a real recruitment/staffing company called Kaizen in the UAE/MENA region, so now I’m confused whether:

  • this is a legitimate but informal recruiting process,
  • outsourced freelance recruiters,
  • or something potentially sketchy.

Have any of you experienced recruiters using Gmail accounts for remote tech hiring? Is this common in MENA/UAE recruiting, or was I right to be cautious?
