🚨 MY CV HAS SEEN MORE OF ABU DHABI THAN MOST TOURISTS…

If you recently saw a CV from a girl named Akniyet and moved it to “not selected”… I respect the honesty. At least my application got a little exercise.

I’m a recent Carnegie Mellon University graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and University Honors, currently in the UAE and looking for a graduate, entry-level, or internship opportunity.

And honestly, I think I’ve completed the full job-hunting package now:

LinkedIn applications.
Indeed.
Bayt.
NaukriGulf.
Company websites.
Recruiters.
Cold emails.
LinkedIn messages.
Follow-ups that start with “Hope you’re well” while I am clearly not well.

When online applications started feeling like sending my CV into space, I decided to try the offline version.

So I’ve been walking around ADGM, introducing myself to people, asking for advice, and handing out my CV at Galleria Mall like my life mission is to unlock the hidden hiring manager.

“Hi, sorry to bother you… do you know if your company is hiring?”

Some people have been genuinely kind. Some gave helpful advice. Some told me to apply online, which hurt a little because that portal and I already have a complicated relationship.

Recruiters are still somewhere out there. I believe in them. I just haven’t seen much evidence yet.

My background is in finance, analytics, business operations, and academic/program coordination. I have experience in financial modeling, valuation, Excel, data analysis, reporting, budgeting, market research, stakeholder communication, and project coordination.

During university, I worked as a Course Assistant for multiple courses, including Regression Analysis, Optimization for Business, Business Computing, and Business Science. I also served as Director of Finance for Carnegie Mellon Student Government.

I’m open to:

Finance / Investment Research
Business Analyst / Data Analyst / BI
Consulting / Strategy
Operations / Program Coordination
Graduate roles / Internships / Entry-level roles

Here is the serious part.

I know I am still at the start of my career, but I am ready to work hard, learn fast, and prove myself. I do not need a perfect opportunity. I just need one person or one company willing to give me a real chance.

Because for many people, the beginning of a career changes because someone once said, “Let’s give them an opportunity.”

If you are hiring, know someone hiring, or can connect me with a recruiter, founder, hiring manager, or team lead, I would be truly grateful.

📬 akniyet.serikbay@gmail.com

If this post leads to an opportunity, I’ll come back and update everyone.

If not, you may still see me somewhere in Abu Dhabi with my CV, acting like I “just happened to be nearby.”

May Allah open the right doors for everyone searching for halal rizq.

Thank you for reading.

Any hope for people with no experience?

I see so many people here with very good resumes and education and even they're struggling. I haven't even gone to college yet. Even vet or sales jobs aren't hiring me. How do I get a job? I'm willing to do sny entry level work but literally no one ever calls back. Should I just freelance and tutor or start a business?

Looking for part time jobs for female

I'm looking for part-time jobs 23, a student. I've applied for many part time jobs through job portals such as LinkedIn and Indeed, but getting rejected every time. I really need part time jobs to support myself, my parents have already supported too much even though they don't have much to give so I don't wanna feel guilty anymore and do any work. I can easily learn and grow so any type of work is fine for me.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post. If you have any leads, advice, or even words of encouragement, I'd truly appreciate it. Feel free to comment or send me a DM.

Can you please stop offering commissions to people who help you find a job?

I know you’re feeling desperate, and i genuinely understand why you’d want to do it.

But please stop offering to pay a commission to whoever helps you land a job. What you’re intending as a goodwill gesture is helping normalize something that should never become an industry standard.
Maybe it won’t affect you today. But the next time you’re job hunting, you may find yourself expected to pay those commissions just to get hired.

You’re not only hurting your future self, you’re also making things worse for everyone else looking for work.
Please don’t do it.

US-based Software Engineer exploring Abu Dhabi tech — realistic salary?

Hi everyone,

I’m a software engineer based in Boston, Massachusetts, exploring UAE opportunities, especially Abu Dhabi.

Quick background: I'm a US citizen/passport holder, US-born and raised, Arab (Palestinian-Jordanian) by ethnicity, fluent in Arabic and English, with a B.S. in Computer Science from a Massachusetts university, and 3+ years of full-time software engineering experience.

My work is mainly backend/API development, microservices, partner integrations, production support, and enterprise systems at a large Fortune 100 US company.

On a personal level, I’m a 29-year-old man, and after visiting the UAE and genuinely enjoying it, Abu Dhabi feels especially attractive to me as a stable, ambitious, Muslim-majority place where I could see myself building a life long-term, especially if I eventually start a family.

I don’t currently have a UAE visa, but I could relocate quickly for the right role. I’m mainly looking at backend, platform, full-stack, cloud/API modernization, data/AI platform, technical consulting, or forward-deployed engineering roles.

I know the UAE market is competitive and has many strong engineers already, so I’m asking this realistically: would a floor of about AED 350k–400k+ total annual compensation be possible for someone with my background?

I’m asking about that range because it’s roughly the level where relocating from a U.S. software role would start to make financial sense for me, especially factoring in current U.S. compensation, relocation, and the UAE’s tax structure.

If anyone works in UAE tech, recruiting, consulting, fintech, G42/Core42/Presight/AIQ, or similar companies, I’d appreciate honest advice. Happy to share my resume privately if someone has serious feedback or knows relevant roles/referrals. Thank you!

TLDR: US-based Arab software engineer exploring Abu Dhabi/UAE tech roles and trying to understand if AED 400k+ total comp is realistic for my background.

Would really appreciate any advice or guidance. Thank you!

Recruiters calling at an inconvenient time

A company posted a job offer on 28th June, I applied same day for the role and they reviewed my application on 29th. Then on the same day they gave me a call on Monday at 6PM, I was busy with the Family so my phone wasn’t on me at the time. They called back again on Wednesday at 1:30PM this time I picked up, they asked if it’s a suitable time I clearly said yes but asked for a minute to step into a quiet room because the area I live in (Sharjah) is filled with constructions recently so I needed to step away from the noise. He replied saying it’s fine goodbye and hung up. Like seriously wtf?

It’s been three days since. Is it a red flag telling recruiters to give you some time? They call unscheduled and assume you’ll be in the perfect position to pick up a call and go through a phone screening/interview every time? Like wtf?

Should I assume that my chances are over here or? Would love some insight especially from those working in HR/recruitment. Thank you

Need advice about my UAE visa situation during my job search

Hi everyone,

I’m an Egyptian currently looking for a job in the UAE after being laid off. My previous employer will cancel my employment visa in August.

I’ve noticed that some companies stop moving forward once they learn about my visa situation. A few recruiters told me they prefer candidates who already have a valid visa, especially for 3–6 month contract roles. One recruiter also asked if my visa was transferable, and honestly, I didn’t know how to answer.

For context, my Emirates ID/residence visa shows an expiry date in 2028, but my employer told me they’ll cancel it next month.

I’m confused about what my options are:
- Is my visa considered transferable?
- If I get a short-term contract, how do people usually handle their residency?
- Is there any way to keep working without my visa status becoming a barrier during the job search?

I’d really appreciate any advice or recent experiences.

Thanks!

Physiotherapist | 11 years experience

I’m a physiotherapist, got terminated from my workplace they did not mention anything about termination, they just said we want to hire new people and restructure the team. Now I had interview at a clinic and they were okay at first but when they came to know about my termination they rejected my cv. So I should not mention termination in interviews?

I am looking for a physiotherapist job in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or any other Emirates. I can join immediately and I can move to any other emirates.

Got laid off. Not looking for sympathy, just my next opportunity.

A few weeks ago I 24M got laid off, and honestly it hit harder than I expected.

After getting over the initial shock, I realized sitting around feeling bad wasn’t going to change anything.
So now I’m putting all my energy into finding the right opportunity.

I’m a Mechanical Engineer with experience in technical sales, working with industrial equipment like pumps, valves, blowers, pressure testing, and project support. I’ve spent time speaking with clients, solving technical problems, coordinating with suppliers, and making sure things actually gets done instead of just talking about it.

I’m not pretending I know everything. But I learn fast, I take feedback seriously, and I’m someone who genuinely wants to become better every single day.
Right now I’m looking for opportunities in the UAE, especially in technical sales, sales engineering, project engineering, or application engineering. If your company is hiring, or you know someone who is, I’d really appreciate a connection.

Even if you only have advice or know a company thats worth applying to, I’d love to hear it.

Thanks for reading. Hoping this post reaches the right person.
