Adult HFM question

For anyone who has been lucky enough to be given HFM by their toddler…. I understand the itching can last weeks and your skin can possibly peel BUT did anyone else get welts / hives \~2-3 weeks after? I’ve been getting them on my wrists, feet, legs. Been wracking my brain trying to figure out what I’m suddenly allergic to but now I’m wondering if it is HFM related? They got better with an antihistamine I took Monday night because I wanted to peel my skin off. Didn’t take another antihistamine last night or today because the only welts / hives are tiny and on the back of my knees and not nearly as itchy as all the prior ones.

Rocking vs Snuggle to sleep

Hi! We currently have our 19 month old on a queen size floor bed and he’s doing great overall. We currently still rock him to sleep but have recently started talking about transitioning to lying next to him / snuggling to sleep.

A few things: we have no interest in sleep training, we are fine helping him get to sleep! He’s just large- over 3 feet tall so he is struggling to get comfy in the rocker / on my torso when I do bedtime. My husband is 6’8” so they don’t have the same issue, our son can get comfy on him.

Does anyone have any suggestions for starting this transition? Do we just start lying next to him for 5-10 minutes then go to rocking if he isn’t settling, slowly increase time on the floor bed? Do we just full send, remove the rocker, and expect a rough week or two with long bedtimes? My concern with that is movement soothes him even when awake. Curious what has worked for others! Thanks!

Davinci Dresser Locks?

Hi! Has anyone figured out a way to toddler proof the Davinci dressers without placing something on the exterior? The magnet locks / ones you press down don’t have a way to catch on the inside with the way the dresser is designed

Son given food he is intolerant to twice..

Hi!

Looking for some advice…. Twice now our 19 month old son has been given dairy at daycare despite a doctor’s note saying he is intolerant and to limit dairy (no cows milk, no cow’s yogurt, no cheese). The daycare said this was fine and they have a few other dairy free kiddos the kitchen prepares meals for. They just asked we bring in our non dairy milk of choice weekly. Cool, no big deal.

This has been going on for 4 months now. The first time he was given dairy a float teacher was present for snack time and gave him yogurt. She admitted he was given yogurt and that she didn’t check the allergy sheets. Result of that was corporate coming in and all allergy sheets being updated and a brief training. Second time (today) our son was switched into another toddler room to help with ratios and given cheese ravioli for lunch. My son ended up back in his normal room by pick up which is connected to the room he was in most of the day and where he got the ravioli. My husband brought it up with his normal teacher and the teacher he had spent all day with. His normal teacher was mortified and the other teacher apologized profusely but admitted she didn’t check the allergy sheets.

My question: what is fair of me to ask the daycare to do to help improve allergy / intolerance protocols?

We are fortunate he is only intolerant and not allergic / anaphylactic otherwise we would have pulled him immediately after the first incident. We also cannot pull him now due to waitlists but are considering other options / other facilities where we can provide food. But in the meantime it’s not fair to him to be crying all night with gas pains because his teachers didn’t check an allergy sheet.

Edited to add: thank you everyone for the suggestions. We are meeting with the director and bringing a bunch of your suggestions to her (color coded plates, plate covers, more visible allergy boards, him not being switched for ratio purposes, flag in the app, etc). We will also be reporting to licensing, can’t bear the thought of something more serious happening to our son or someone else’s child. Also looking for a new center but that could be a few months wait so hopefully protocol changes help in the meantime. Thank you all again.

Gluten Allergy- Disney Springs

If there is a specific Disney food allergy place to post this please let me know, I couldn’t find it.

We have done Disney before and know Disney owned restaurants are typically much better than non Disney owned restaurants so we typically stick with those!

We are going in September and planning a resort day with dinner at Disney Springs. Out of the following does any one have experiences with the gluten free offerings- good or bad. Looking at Boathouse, Frontera, and Morimoto. Other option would be to stay on resort and go to Boatwright’s.

Thanks for any recs!

Pull Ups vs Training Pants?

Yes, another potty training question but this is more of a clarification I’m looking for because I feel clueless with potty training.

Our son is 18 months old. He has started walking away from us to find a quiet place to poop in his diaper. So our ped suggested we start placing him on the toilet at wake up, before nap, after nap, before bath, before bed, and anytime we catch him hiding to help create a less stressful intro to potty training and start working on the association of it all. Daycare won’t help until he’s in the 2 YO room so I cannot full send this.

Okay my question… is now a good time to switch to pull ups so we can more easily get them up / down for trips to the potty and save the training underwear for when we can fully do this?

If yes, any brands of pulls up recommended that are fragrance free, for sensitive skin, etc? Currently using pampers amore diapers. He is eczema prone with very sensitive skin so scared to switch away from something we know works.

And then for future- saw a recommendation on another thread for MooMoo Baby training underwear on Amazon. Good recommendation? Any others?

Thank you!

Tula Toddler vs better option?

We have a Tula Explore that we absolutely love. I haven’t used it in probably 7-8 months now as I started putting my son in the grocery cart seat and all of that. He’s 18 months, 36.5” tall, and 31 lbs. He was sick recently and just wanted to be held so I tried putting him in the carrier and couldn’t get a good fit no matter what.

He fits the size requirements for the Tula toddler but the age says 2-6 years old. Is there something I’m missing? I think size would be a better indicator than age right?

He is super active and usually not wanting to be contained BUT we have a couple of trips coming up so debating getting Toddler Tula for airports and some hikes that I know he will get tired on. (Hikes will be at high elevation in Colorado and we will be coming from sea level so can’t let him get too gassed running the short 2-5 mile hikes we have planned and terrain won’t allow stroller from what I have gathered.)

Worth the investment? Is there another brand I should look at? Or just not get a toddler carrier knowing he usually doesn’t want to be contained.

Thanks for any help!

Colorado Trip- Altitude Sickness in Toddler?

Hi, we will be traveling from Florida to Colorado for a celebration of life ceremony. It is a relatively quick trip, a Thursday to a Monday most likely. We will be in Buena Vista and possibly traveling into Leadville for a morning / afternoon. Coming from near sea level in Florida I’m concerned about our toddler and altitude sickness. I know the obvious signs to look for- lethargy, increased fussiness, loss of wanting to play, etc.

Can anyone who has traveled like this give me some first hand experience or other things to look for? Things to help him out? Would it be helpful to stay in Denver for a night prior to going out to Buena Vista? Is it dumb to try to do a hike without more time for him to acclimate (easy trail, obviously no 14ers lol but he’s cranky if he can’t move and run)?

Thanks for any help!

Providence School: yay or nay?

I’ll preface this with our son is only a year old but we are starting the “do we move to a better school district or just pay for private?” conversation. Both obviously have financial considerations as well as a multitude of other things to consider. We have never been opposed to private school or Christian upbringing so no issues there. We will visit the church associated with Providence before making any final decisions and obviously tour the school itself. Our plan would be to try to apply and get accepted to the 2 year old preschool program.

Mainly just curious about some other parent’s perspectives of the school overall- quality of teachers, style and quality of education, class sizes, extracurricular opportunities (both athletic and non athletic), etc. looking for the good and bad so we can fully weigh our options!
