What kind of descriptions are these?

What kind of descriptions are these?

I am watching mr.robot, and I just noticed these trolly descriptions. Is this intended or is it a weird joke lol.

If you're bored of CRUD apps, try building the thing you're using

I randomly came across the "Build Your Own X" repo on GitHub a while back. It's basically a giant collection of tutorials where you build things like Git, a database, Kafka, a blockchain, a shell, etc. from scratch.

I stole the idea.

I'm currently building a write-ahead log in pure Java. No libraries (other than JUnit because I'm not that insane). Just Java.

It's been way more fun than I expected.

For one, you actually start understanding why these systems are built the way they are. It's one thing to say "Kafka handles high throughput" because you've used it at work. It's another thing entirely to implement even a tiny piece of that world yourself and suddenly realise, "Oh... that's why they do it like this."

I feel like I can actually have conversations about the internals now instead of repeating architecture buzzwords I heard in a design review six months ago.

The second thing is... you end up learning your language properly.

Seriously. When was the last time you touched Java's file APIs beyond "Files.readString()"? Or used NIO for something real? Or found out "VarHandle" exists? Or actually played with virtual threads instead of reading one blog post and going "neat"?

You stumble into all these weird corners of the language that normal backend work never makes you touch.

And honestly... it's reignited my interest in programming a bit.

After spending years writing REST APIs and moving JSON from Service A to Service B, it's nice to build something where every line teaches you something.

Anyway. If you've been feeling burnt out or like you're stagnating, maybe pick something ridiculously overambitious and build the smallest possible version of it.

Worst case, you learn some obscure APIs.

Best case, you accidentally remember why you liked programming in the first place.

Is software dev in banking always so horrible and beaurocratic?

I work in a large UK based bank, and I feel tech here is extremely old, and very beaurocratic in general. Just shipping code to prod is such a hassle and you in general have zero access to systems you need to test against.

The number of meetings is just crazy, I m almost 4-5 hours in meetings in a 9 hour day. It just feels draining. There is a war room for almost every release because of micromanagement and push for deploying something to satisfy the UK guys.

In my 10+ years of experience i have never seen such a disorganised organization before. Just want to know if people share similar experiences?

What's the anime(s) that has impacted you as a person the most?

Basically title. Here are a few for me:

- Clannad - It's important to cherish the people around you cuz they maybe gone tomorrow.

- Vinland saga - Revenge is not worth pursuing, and we must learn to forgive to be able to truly live our lives, and hatred must not drive us forward.

- Gintama - One musn't let go of their original selves and its important to accept people just as they are and coexist despite the differences

- Berserk - Life is extremely harsh, it will beat you down to a point where you may want to die out of that pain, but even in all that darkness you can still pick yourself up and move forward.

- Tatami galaxy - No matter what the outcome of life is, we must try and accept the fruits of our choices and make the best of life with what we have rather than try to fix what's happened.

I can only think of so much at the moment, but hey, this is a post about perspectives and which show is close to your heart. I would love to hear what you guys feel. Feel free to discuss away. :)
