Brought this home from work yesterday
I absolutely love this begonia. I plan on restaking to help with the airflow around the canes.
Any advice on care for it? I'm growing it a few miles from the coast, indoors away from the window in a West facing room. And the room is fairly humid since it's my plant room but I can always supplement that.
Meet Vaan, my first carnivorous plant
My first carnivorous plant. I have had for 3 months now and done many things wrong with it, but even after all of that it looks so beautiful
Plea for help to find homes Ventura county, CA
EDIT: I wrote this very quickly while on my lunch. I will try and reply to any comments that come in. Thank you all.
Hello, I am writing this post after trying everything I can possibly think of to help find the right homes for some cats that have fallen into my life. This is a long story or maybe not.
TLDR: I need help finding homes for 8+ cats that I have had for 8-10 months. I have tried every avenue I can think of. Every group, rescue person near me. I have had people ask about them but they never follow through.
Long story:
I found a post on Nextdoor by a 80+ year old asking for help feeding some of her strays since she couldn't keep up with it anymore. I replied and I was given some of her sites and as time went on I learned more about what she did and was given several more sites. I learned she had been taking care of these cats for the last 20 years with a few friends but she and her husband were all that were left. They took care of 200+ cats at the time with about 30 or so active sites to feed, and as of my current count we are up to 270+ cats and almost 40 sites.
I have been doing this for a year and a half now. I feed over half of those cats myself now and trap for TNR when there are appointments available and I have time. Last September (09/25) I had a cascade of events happen in 3 months which colminated in me taking in 10 new cats on top of my current household cats.
Now I never intended to do this. Not ever. I know my limits, and my plan had always been to try and find homes for these cats. As much as I'd love to adopt the world, I can't afford it and I don't have space. But as a temporary measure I can house them until I can find them homes. "How long can that take?" I asked myself. "Everyone wants to adopt kittens, and the older ones I have are extremely social and cuddly." Is what I thought. And I tried taking the younger kittens to the shelter so they could get adopted through their resources more easily. Also our shelter has a rule where they will not accept any strays over 3 or 4 months old and the youngest ones I tried to bring in were maybe 4 or 5 months and they were rejected.
It has now been almost a year and things in the household are getting progressively worse. To the point where my health has been seriously impacted, the mental health of the older cats in the household have gotten aggressive, and I am no closer to finding them homes then I was on day one. I have contacted every rescue I can find near me. I've posted in groups for my city, county and state. Every friend or person I know who feeds or traps. I've asked random people I pass at the store at this point and no one is interested in helping or adopting.
I'm asking now, probably in the wrong place, for help please. I need help finding homes for these wonderful little guys. Please message me if you have time or resources in Southern California. Preferably near Ventura county.
*I added some photos of the some of little bugs in the household.
* The last photo is of the tank he's lived in since I had him. And if like to find him a similar home if possible.*
Has been living in a 150gal planted tank with a community of fish. Unfortunately something happened on Christmas day when I had visitors over and everyone in the tank except for strong fellow passed. The tank was reset and he's been doing fine since, but I'm honestly still devasted by the loss of my show tank community and I don't know when I'll want to put the tank together for show again or if I will to be honest.
So I'm looking to re-home this guy. He's never been aggressive towards other fish, always food motived but kind of dumb when tracking food in front of him. Spoiled rotten with different pellets and shrimp which I can provide to his new owner. I would like to see pictures of the tank he'd be going to before officially rehoming him. Has to be a larger tank, at least 100gal or larger.
Sorry if I'm sounding picky. Just want to make sure he's taken care of. Shoot me a message if you're interested and we'll work out a day to get him.
