Is Disney responsible for cruising as it's known today?

In my pre-cruise fever, I've been watching a lot of videos about the cruising industry. Official documentaries from Disney, business journalism, and analysis from smaller independent creators.

The stuff that I've found that is not created by Disney (or Disney mega fans/travel agents), tends to focus on Royal Caribbean, Carnival, and Norwegian as the giants of the industry. They talk about how they needed to make cruising family friendly by offering better activities for kids, more dining options, creating private islands destinations, etc.

Then I go watch the official Disney accounts. Castaway Cay launched with the Magic (I thought it was at least a decade later). Rotational dining was their concept (and while no other cruise does it, RC prides that they have 12+ restaurants on board). The first ship water slide. The first and only cruise line to do fireworks at sea (they freaking invented fireworks that turn to fish food when it hits the water???).

So many of the non-Disney content talks about how cruising changed in the early to mid 2000s, but they never mention the Disney ships that launched before the new millennium. It really seems like Disney is setting the standard at which everyone has to play, even though they have such a small share of the market.

Corner rooms

I was doing some peeking around and found that rooms 7006 and 7504 on the Dream are still open on my sailing. We booked a basic inside stateroom and were totally okay with it because it was cheap and we don't plan to spend much time there anyways.

I've seen mixed reviews for the room for the lack of privacy with a family (just the two of us) and the porthole less than fantastic. The extra space sounds amazing. Couldn't find much on if the extra movement of the ship would be a problem.

But... it's only $160 for us to upgrade to this room.

Is this genuinely a secret gem, or should I avoid it?

Edit: we booked it. Actually came out to only $130!

Found a little Enterprise!

Anyone want to take a guess of what it is? Took me quite a while to figure out where it came from!

Halloween on the High Seas

I have a 5-night cruise on the Dream this fall (9/27-10/2). Our cruise is not advertised as a Halloween cruise, but the one immediately after us is. I can't imagine they can fully turn the ship in the few hours between debarkation and embarkation of the next group--is it possible/likely we'll get to see them decorating the ship?

I don't think Fantasie knows what a 34 band means.

I have an upcoming cruise, so naturally I needed some new bikinis! I took my bra size and ordered multiple swimsuits from Bravissimo. I was so excited to get them in the mail today and try them on. The blue one was first and it fit great! Then tried the other pictured here and could literally not get it around my ribs. It was pretty obvious why once I held them up to each other.

It sounds like this is just a thing that Fantasie runs small in the band, so definitely size up if you're going to buy from them!

Port arrival times and DCL transport

This feels like a loophole and I'm trying to figure out of I have this right.

We're sailing out of Fort Lauderdale and staying at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina, which is literally a half mile from the port. We haven't booked DCL transport, but was told by a cast member we can up to 3 days out--well after online check in. I've also seen here that if you use DCL transport, you can arrive at the port much earlier than other people/ they let you in when you show up.

So.... if I check in online and get a really shitty PAT, can I then book DCL transport and jump some of the line?

Silver Castaway Club for context, and we plan to check in at midnight.

My boyfriend and I are going on a cruise this fall (Sept 27th on the Dream). Embarkation day is his birthday, so we're thinking about trying to make it a little special. We do NOT want a big cast-singing/announcement at dinner.

I saw there's a way to tell them about a birthday on the app, but I want to know what that entails before we tell them. Also thinking about one of the cakes, but it sounds like those are huge for 2 people.

I moved into a new apartment and I'm still getting a feel for the temperament of my oven (it runs cold, even when it's "at temp"). I put these in like I usually do, set the timer for 7 minutes. The picture doesn't do it justice how *pale* these were when they came out. They looked completely under-done. I trusted my gut and put the next tray in. 30 minutes later, they look absolutely perfect, so soft and chewy.

Recipe: Nestlé Toll House chocolate chip cookies. Only difference is I do 350F for 7 minutes.

Pattern by Wonder4Pixels on Etsy. Took just under 2 months with 13,967 stitches. (And yes, I fixed the framing to be more centered.) Really fun project!
