Which region in North America is the most gentle on cars?

My vote goes to Victoria, BC since they don’t use salt during the winter and the mild year round temperatures means plastic/rubber components don’t deteriorate quickly.

Am I going to get laughed at if I bring my 320i to a BMW meet?

There’s a meet next week at the BMW dealer in langley and I wanna bring my 2016 320i but I have a feeling everyone is bringing M cars. The organizer says all makes/models are welcome.

  1. The paint on my 320i has swirls for days.
  2. My 320i is a manual.

Realistically, do I bring it or do I drive something else and enjoy seeing what others have brought?

*Thanks for the opinions guys, I’m gonna go!

Is it common to go on monthly payments for insurance?

I was transferring ownership on the truck and the insurance agent was surprised that I wanted to pay in full for a year’s worth of insurance. He mentioned most people pay monthly nowadays…

Is it not common nowadays to pay in full for vehicle insurance? Unless I’m missing something, don’t you pay interest to ICBC when you pay monthly for a year’s worth of insurance?

No car payments but high running costs. Can i afford this vehicle?

A very generous family member is getting a new truck and I have the opportunity to take ownership of their current truck. I’d own the truck outright and would be responsible for its operating costs.

The truck in question is a ‘16 tundra 1794 with around 25,000 kms. ICBC is quoting us $3900/y with me as the principal with 8 yoe and my fiancée, who just got her N, as the secondary. Luckily, I wouldn’t have to pay PST on this as it’d be a transfer from an immediate family member.

The issue is this truck is a tremendous gas hog. Just driving it gently, i get 20L/100km and the gas tank is like 130L. That’s like $260 to fill from empty at the current lower mainland gas prices, which will most likely go up due to the war. We both wfh so we’d drive just for errands or getting out of town.

Let’s say we earmark $520/mo in gas, $100/mo for maintenance and $3900/y for insurance. Annually, we’d need to spend around $11k just to operate the truck. With our HHI around $160k/y before tax, it puts our transportation costs at around ~10% of our post tax income.

My fiancée is saying this is an absolute no brainer and we should be profusely thanking this family member for being so kind. Her reasoning is at the end of the day, there’s no other way we’d get a vehicle with this amount of luxury, reliability and mileage for $11k/yr that we own outright.

What I want to know is am I missing any costs or is my budget too conservative? This would be my first time owning a truck so im not really sure what to expect other than a large monthly gas bill.

Stop over complicating what “riding the clutch” means

Follow these two rules and your clutch will last a long time nor will you “ride the clutch”:

  1. Do not rest your foot on the clutch pedal when driving! That’s what the dead pedal for!

  2. Either fully press the clutch pedal to the floor, or take your foot off the pedal so it’s in its original position. If you must ride the clutch for very low speed manoeuvres like parking, minimize the amount of time you’re in between the fully pressed/depressed states.

Don’t over complicate driving a manual car! By following these two rules, i got 180,000 kms on my wrx before the clutch started to slip.

Is Physics 12 really this easy in 2026?

My girlfriend’s brother was showing me his Physics 12 final exam last night and I was astonished at how easy it was. Just straight application of equations with minimal manipulation of variables and almost no conceptual questions. He said the class average was around 88%. Mind you, he attends a school in the VSB district so I dont know if it’s a district or school wide thing.

The questions were literally like how much force does an electron moving at 5m/s experience in a 3T magnetic field, etc.

I graduated back in 2018 and I feel like even then, the questions were way more difficult.
