How to approach gym owner about subletting space as a physical therapist

I'm a physical therapist who wants to start my own cash based PT line of service in the South Bay Area. Considering starting in a gym and moving on in 2-3 years to my own clinic space. As a gym owner, how would you prefer to be approached. Phone call and set up a meeting? Social media message and set up a meeting? No meeting, call, and just go right into my pitch once I get transferred to the manager/owner? I'd like to pay for space and not split the revenue, ideally.

Positive review for The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Ka'anapali

Really enjoyed our stay booked with points boost at The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Ka'anapali. The breakfast credit was $60 at ulu kitchen. The $100 property credit we used mostly on poolside drinks. Resort fee was already covered, we did pay $50/night plus $2.36 parking get tax per night for our rental car self parking in the nearby garage. Very easy walking area despite the recent storms, though part of the sidewalk has eroded. Onsite Luau was good and convenient, not amazing. Welcome amenity was an assorted box from big island candies. Used a decent chunk of points but honestly would do it again.

Also used the dining credit for CSR at Lineage about 50min drive away. This is a must!

OGG airport car rental return

Does anyone know if it’s safe to drive over this? Trying to return a car before my 6am flight. On call manager not answering the phone.

EDIT: this was located at the thrifty, hertz, dollar return gate. it seems like it was correct not to drive over - but a couple comments say they did and it was fine. We ended up leaving the car on the bottom floor at enterprise and calling the manager again after we landed from our flight once they opened at 5:30am. It’s in the car rental parking garage so they’re gonna accept the return.

If you have an early flight out like us, use enterprise or Alamo, I guess they allow more drop off options. Not sure why thrifty let us put a drop off time of 4am when they’re not open.

What’s the best local marketing tactic?

I’m from NorCal but been living in San Jose the past year. Planning on opening my own return to sport testing center and physical therapy clinic, with an emphasis on post-op care. When I open, what’s the best way to get the word out?

Planning on visiting gyms, PT clinics, surgeon offices to leave my info; posting flyers at local coffee shops and apartment buildings; posting on social media.

Any tips? I’m good at being a PT but the business side feels daunting and I want to set myself up well

FMLA for burnout and/or family medical

I am pretty burnt out of my job. Not because of the work but because of the management. Long story short workplace bullying was occurring and I reported to HR. It actually was helpful, the bullying stopped but of course it’s hard to forget.

I’m trying to figure out how to take FMLA once I hit a year. What paperwork do I need to provide? I’m already in therapy. I’m hoping for just one month to get my mind right. Simultaneously my grandma is having health issues and could use physical therapy. What kind of paperwork would I need to prove I’m taking her to some medical appointments and treating her for physical therapy (free of course).

Anyone go through this before?

Positive data point for Kimpton Sawyer in Sacramento, CA

I booked 2 nights for 2 people at the Kimpton sawyer in Sacramento, CA Thursday-Saturday for $640. Got my $250 edit credit back within 1 week. Was able to check in early and check out late. Got upgraded to a balcony room. The welcome amenity was 2 waters and a small charcuterie plate. Used $100 property credit at Revival - an onsite restaurant. The breakfast was in room dining, and with gratuity and fees it didn’t go terribly far but a solid benefit.

When I consider $640-$250(the edit credit)-$100(property credit)-$100(2 days of breakfast) =$190 and the level of service we received, I am happy with this selection!

Is my business to do list correct? State-California

I’m trying to get the actual step-by-step instructions of how to start a business in California. I’ve done a house hack rental that I guess is an SP, but not like a real business from the ground up. I plan on doing a LLC in California that is a healthcare company that will take cash and maybe insurance in the future.

Any thoughts on the to-do list I have right now? Would you change any steps or change the order of any steps?

To do list

  1. Decide what type of business entity
    —LLC
  2. Decide what name
—Check patent, trademark, CA business dept
  3. create IRS EIN
  4. Register for CA LLC $70 filing fee, $800 yearly tax
  5. Create Business checking and credit card
    —find no fee checking acct
  6. Fictitious business name registered with city

I’m a physical therapist playing around with the idea of opening a cash based business that just does return to sport testing. Referral sources would be surgeons, physical therapists, high school/college coaches, and patients themselves. They would pay a flat fee for isometric quad, biodex , Nordbord hamstring , and Vald force plate. Is this something you would consider referring your patients to? For example, someone that’s in mid phase postop ACLR rehab, but could be anyone interested in returning to sport or even someone curious about their fitness. I wouldn’t be in the business if poaching patients if that’s a concern.
