World Bank Pioneers: I haven't received a rejection or longlist email yet. Do we hear back if we're rejected?

Apparently by August 19, we're supposed to have found out if we're longlisted. However, I haven't received the rejection or longlist email yet. Do we receive an email if we're rejected?

My application status on the portal says: "Review status: in review."

I'm on U.S. Time and applied to a postgraduate role.

Thank you!

How do you realistically "keep up with your network" before you need something if you have many contacts and they keep growing?

Everyone gives all of these adages about networking, but I've always been overwhelmed by trying to "keep up with my network" before I need something. So how do we realistically do so when our life's responsibilities increase?

Structure: Do you prioritize who's important to you and segment your network into "levels," like who you'd reach out to through monthly, quarterly, or yearly messages, calls, or meetups? How do you know who will be important to you?

Interactions: Are they birthday wishes or "catch ups," or are you offering them help and sending them articles that remind them of you? Are you interacting with them on LinkedIn, Substack, or social media?

Do you also feel pressured to give them the perfect impression of yourself every time because one negative interaction could mean the end of your relationship with them?

Thank you!

Can I substitute another purchase of the same dress when returning a dress? Will cashiers notice?

I bought dress #1 online a few weeks ago to wear to an event. It just went on a huge sale last night, but I can no longer ask for a price adjustment because the 10-day window passed.

To still get the significant discount, I bought the same dress online, which we'll call dress #2 here. However, it will arrive after the event.

Can I wear dress #1 to the event and then present the unopened dress #2 as dress #1 when I make my return?

I would have preferred if the price adjustment went through, so I didn't have to do this, but alas. Thank you!

PA Medicaid Coverage for ADHD Appointments and Prescriptions

I'm moving back to PA and will enroll in Medicaid while looking for a job. While out-of-state, I received an ADHD diagnosis, prescriptions, and talk therapy.

Questions:

  1. If I already have an ADHD diagnosis and have medication I like, how long does it take to find a prescriber who takes PA Medicaid? Are wait times long?
  2. Do I have to find a provider in my county?
  3. On my PA Medicaid application, how should I describe my ADHD and other conditions to make sure my medication and appointments for talk therapy and medication are covered? All of these are helpful for me maintaining my "employability."

I'm a newbie to all of this, so thank you so much for your help!

What are some good creative Bat Mitzvah gifts for a 12 year old Japanese American girl who lives in Japan? (More details in post.)

The Bat Mitzvah is happening in the US. Based on the description below, I'd normally give this girl some cute Japanese stationery, but she lives in Japan, sooo...lol. I'm not up to date on what's "cool" for middle school girls now. Any ideas?

I was thinking of a feather quill/ink pen, ink pot, and parchment paper set. Or a nice European-style notebook? Maybe a mbira/kalimba or music box? Or a collection of chocolates from around the world?

Budget is $50-60.

-------------

Info from her dad:

She likes crafts and little handmade things. She likes accessories, and her tastes are still feminine in a traditional sense.

She likes the kind of things you would find at an old stationary store.

She loves music and music related objects.

She likes books and dramatic style manga.

---------

I've been wracking my head over this for the past month, so thank you so much!

Student research project: How can I find out how many seats were sold for specific showtimes? (Aang: The Last Airbender)

I'm a student and Avatar fan doing a fun little research project to track how many tickets were sold at New York's AMC Empire 25 for Aang: The Last Airbender's week-long theatrical release as a proxy for audience interest. I've been screenshotting seat maps for upcoming showtimes, but I'm missing a few showtimes from the past weekend.

How can I find how many seats were sold at those showtimes?

Years ago, I've successfully called theaters like Regal to ask how many tickets were left for certain showtimes, and staff members were generally happy to tell me. Does this method still work? No one seems to pick up the phone now.

Thank you! :)

Normal?: Got Surface Laptop 5 in Feb '23, started using it in Fall '24, browser starts freezing now

Someone gifted me a brand new Surface Laptop 5 in February 2023, and I started using it in Fall 2024. Since Spring 2026, I've noticed that when I have multiple tabs up on Brave browser, it starts freezing. I leave my laptop on sleep rather than turning it off, but I'm not running much else on my laptop.

Is this deterioration in performance normal after only 1.5 years of active use? My Lenovo Carbon X-1 started slowing down only after 4-5 years of use.

What should I start doing to prolong my laptop's performance for the future?

Or is this a Brave browser issue?

Thank you!

Frustrated: I was SO close to getting my dream job at an industry leader, but my final round was ruined by an incredibly unprofessional interviewer. Now I'm applying for worse jobs at worse companies in the same field. Is it weird that I'm frustrated that I have to settle for much, much less now?

We're advised to go where our heroes go, so we can learn from the best. After a grueling multi-round interview process where I invested months in prep, I almost had that chance at the company, the industry leader at the job, where I could potentially work on projects with global impact. I just had to clear the final round. Too bad the final round was the most unprofessionally run interview I've ever had (and the interview process was also sloppy and unfair). I didn't get the offer. It's been a while since I got the rejection, but I sometimes still get angry about it because I was robbed of the chance to show what I could truly do.

It wasn't the perfect job or company -- meh pay, poor WLB, chaotic inside -- and my peers and advisers say I "dodged a bullet," but at least I could learn from the best, do impactful work, and access excellent exit opportunities. This was a sacrifice I was happy to make.

My peers and advisers also tell me that I'll "find something better," but it's really hard to believe that's true. The other jobs I'm applying to have terrible pay and a high degree of toxicity, but their projects have much smaller impact and worse learning outcomes and exit opportunities. Some companies' Glassdoor reviews are legit 2.0 stars.

I'm driven, want to learn from the best, and want to go the furthest I can, and I'm worried that if I take worse opportunities, I'll never make it to where I want to go or I'll have to work harder later on to get there when I am tired of hustling.

Maybe I'm just being ungrateful and am too picky, but after hustling for so, so long, I feel like I deserve better than companies that have 2.0 stars on Glassdoor and where I know I won't grow that much or as much. I'm just sad that I have to settle for much worse opportunities now when I was SO close to the dream before -- when it was ruined by a terrible interviewer.
