Loving this subreddit already
I'm new to this whole scene, having only found the podcast the other day and never hearing about it before. I'm on episode 10 and I would usually hold out to the end to jump on a subreddit, but I couldn't help myself after awhile.
I am not disappointed 😂 Just picking a flair had me cracking up
I love how much of a difference JFC seems to have made on the outcome of this insanity. I am eager to catch up with the current state of affairs! If only to understand who Zaddy Omar is 🧐
ETA: Thank you for those who have dropped links to must-see clips. That helps a lot!
RIP Sterling Malory Archer
Long time lurker, but wanted to share my boy. He just turned 11 this month and I’ve never had a better dog.
I just wanted to share with those who know how special these dogs are. To be with him in his final moments was an honor. I’ll never love another dog like I did this good boy.
Comparing to Spider-Man: Brand New Day (OS spoilers included)
Went and saw the new Spider-Man movie last night. This next part I’ll put under a spoiler since it’s brand new:
>!When Peter is losing control over his physical evolution, he’s much more dangerous, anger fueled, and his eyes go black. My 13 yo (who hasn’t read any of The Empyrean series but listens to me prattle on about it) leans over to me and says “Oh shoot Peter went all venin to save the day…”!<
I coughed on the bite of popcorn I’d been chewing but then couldn’t stop laughing because she’s not too far off. The similarities were pretty funny 😆
Now let’s hope that Xaden >!can be both venin and the hero, too?!< >!😢😅!<>! !<
Rereading OS and have a question… *spoilers*
In my reread of OS, I’m in chapter 62 where >!Violet is engaged in conflict with Theophanie and trying to keep her distracted.!<
>!Violet says:!<
>!“But I’m the only lightning wielder you have to prove yourself now.”!<
>!To which Theophanie responds:!<
>!“Which meant a lot more when you had your irid.”!<
>!What I got caught up on was how does Theophanie know that Andarna is *gone*. And not just hiding?!<
>!Now that I type that out, I’m guessing perhaps Pancheck told her? I’m still going to post this in case there’s any other theories floating around that I haven’t found in my search.!<
Iron Flame curiosity - dramatic or something else?
In chapter 10 of IF, the assassin comes in and kills Nadine without hesitation when he thinks it's Violet. Though it's not Violet and a fight ensues.
Then when he has her pinned with his hand on her throat, he whispers "Secrets die with those who keep them." Which is what Aetos Sr. says, leading us to the conclusion that Aetos Sr. sent him.
What bothers me about this scene is how it didn't seem to be his objective to whisper this to her before she died, or he wouldn't have been so quick to kill her when he thought Nadine was his target. And then if he's some no-name first year, is he in that close with Aetos that he'd be told this dramatic line to repeat?
Just finished my first read through...
Andddd wow. Just wow. I started this series as a "meh whatever it'll be decent to listen to while I clean." Now I'm over here kinda shell shocked by the ending of OS and all the questions I have. 😐
I should have known better than to start an unfinished series... I went through this trauma growing up with Harry Potter!
Anyway, now that I'm done I've decided it's safe to enter the subreddits while I lick my wounds 😭
Suggestions on what to read next would be awesome 😂
My family bought four dragonflies. I somehow ended up with five.
A weird thing happened to me in 2012 that I still can’t explain.
A few months earlier, my dad had passed away after being in the ICU for several days. Around the time he died, my older sister (who lived in Florida) called us saying her backyard had suddenly filled with hundreds of dragonflies right after we told her he was gone. Because of that, dragonflies became kind of a symbolic thing in my family afterward.
Later that year, my mom and sister went on a road trip and found tiny glass dragonfly figurines at a random roadside shop somewhere in the Midwest. They bought exactly four of them: one for my mom, one for each of my two sisters, and one for me. They were all different colors.
Mine was dark blue/purple.
A few months later, I flew from Arizona to California for work. While packing before the trip, I remember finding the dragonfly and setting it on a ledge in my dining room because I didn’t want it getting lost in my suitcase.
A few days into the trip, I was walking back from the bathroom at work and slipped my hand into my sweater pocket.
I felt the dragonfly.
At first I thought maybe I had packed it without remembering, but when I pulled it out, it wasn’t even the same color anymore. Instead of dark blue/purple, it was bright light blue.
I actually texted my sister a picture of it because I thought maybe the color somehow changed from travel, pressure, lighting, whatever.
I put it into a small pocket in my purse and forgot about it.
About a week later, I got home to Arizona and started unpacking. As I walked past the ledge in my dining room, I froze.
The original dark blue/purple dragonfly was still sitting exactly where I had left it before the trip.
I immediately checked my purse.
The light blue dragonfly was still there too.
So now I had two.
I called my mom and sisters to make sure there hadn’t secretly been extras purchased, but there weren’t. There had only ever been four dragonflies total: one for each of us. Nobody had bought a fifth one, and nobody could explain where the light blue one came from.
To this day, I still have both of them.
I know there’s probably some logical explanation somewhere, but I genuinely have never been able to figure it out.
ETA: I left out more of the emotional impact from original post but since so many comments are mentioning how it was my dad, I wanted to add…
The day I found the second dragonfly was also the day I conceived my oldest. Of course I didn’t know this at the time and wouldn’t put it together for another month or so.
My mom decided that meant the baby would be a boy, because it was blue. And though I had wanted a boy sooo bad, her saying that more than solidified the feeling that I was having a girl. My dad already had four grandsons by way of my older sister. I told my mom “nah, he’s sending a dragonfly to the only girl of his who didn’t have one yet.”
A few months after that, it was confirmed that I’d be having his first granddaughter.
It’s one of my 13yos favorite stories and I promised her she’d be able to take the dragonfly for herself once she’s grown and I know she won’t lose it in 3 days time 😂
