I'm doing a full run of Cassavetes filmography and it got me thinking about how dialogue recording in particular has evolved over the years.
There's something nostalgic about those peaks in the audio when an actor raises there voice. And the differences in Dbs when dialogue is captured from a character off screen, a bit distant from the boom mic.
Clearly current microphones/editing technology have weeded out that method of recording coupled with the fact that a lot of films today utilize ADR in post. I feel we've lost a human element that's when you level the playing field sonically. Anyways go watch A Killing of a Chinese Bookie
