Did a mixed beach tournament this weekend with a really solid female partner who passed well enough that I had a ton of options on serve receives and on free balls. Because of that, I was able to take a bunch of seconds and score off them. There was a 3M rule to attack for men.

What I don’t get is why people get so mad about this.
It’s perfectly legal. If the other team gives you an easy ball or a soft enough first contact that you can take it on two, why the hell would you not? Are people just expecting everyone to politely hand over an easy shot every time instead of taking the point that’s there? We also made a few points returning it on 1, which actually made one of the teams give up at 10-2 because they were too aggravated.

I get being annoyed if it catches you off guard once or twice, but some people act like taking seconds is cheap or dirty when it’s literally just part of the game. If you don’t want someone scoring on two, then defend it. To me it’s like complaining about bunts in baseball or QB sneaks in football.

Why does this piss people off so much in beach volleyball?

Edit because my wording wasn’t clear. I call the shot based on where the defender is not, not by looking at the blocker. Then by default, the blocker is blocking where the defender is not.

Most people know the 3 common calls when your partner is hitting: line, cross and nobody. Some people go further and call the shot (swing, cut, high line). Yesterday, we were arguing on what these actually mean. Here’s the way I interpret it:

Nobody: pretty self explanatory, if you want to swing there’s no blocker but one defender can be late peeling.

Line: blocker is blocking line, which means defender is waiting cross which means there’s a hole behind the blocker. So if I call line, you either swing cross into the defender, swing line into the blocker or go for the high line shot.

Cross: blocker is blocking angle, which means defender is waiting line, behind the defender. There is therefore a hole in diagonal to the blocker. So if I call cross, you either swing cross into the block, swing line into the defender or hit a cut shot.

Personally I don’t call the shot because I feel like I don’t have time to analyze what shot to do in the short 1-2 seconds after setting so I just look at the hole and call it.

Any other perspective?

Just heading home from this amazing party. I must say, we were craaaaaaaaammed until 5 ish when the first people started leaving. I’ve never seen stereo with that many people. Fortunately, I didn’t see any photos or videos taken, makes me proud of the crowd and first timers. The music was just so good, so much better than hearing her at piknic. It’s just crazy to see such a big DJ up close in this smaller room.

Is anyone getting insane lag spike, that last around 5 seconds, I would say about 1 game out of 2?? This doesn’t happen on any other game so it’s not my internet the issue. It just happens and for 5 seconds I can’t do shit and it just keep happening constantly.

Anyone has any intel/speculation/rumor on who will open? Of what I understand, she comes on at 4. I am really intrigued by this and who will get this lucky spot.

Anyone else running into this issue where people in my team/party are muted and I can’t do anything to unmute them? They just seem muted by default. I am not chat banned as I can hear other people.
