Surface prep advice

Surface prep advice

Currently a rough skim coat of thin set over past brick / thin set bumps. Planning on grinding down high spots and filling low spots but wanted some extra opinions on if this is the best course of action? It’s relatively flat now but definitely not ready for tile.

I plan on installing a glazed thin brick, I think the slight variations will help on a surface that has some imperfections.

Any and all advice appreciated, TIYA!

Losing the fight vs my stinky closet. Who to call?

The stinky closet is proving to be a far more capable enemy than I had initially thought. I have tried about everything I can think of to pinpoint the source and I am ready to call someone if there is someone who’s right for this

- Closet and living room were tile and did not smell
- Portions of subfloor under kitchen and a small amount (2sqft) of closet are damp from an old dishwasher leak
- I should add that the subfloor under the dishwasher was very wet and did not produce a smell even when it was well exposed (maybe because of good airflow)
- Tile removed, subfloor replaced, engineered hardwood installed in living room and closet
- Stinky closet
- Baseboards removed, drywall cut out near floor level. Smell all over closet but can’t pinpoint stink
- Stinky closet
- Run fan & dehumidifier 4 days
- Pinless moisture meter, pin moisture meter, ir camera - can’t find anything
- Stinkier in the evening?
- There was a spot in the closet that when I poured self leveler some dripped through a crack into the crawlspace. The crawlspace really just smells like insulation (it’s pretty new). I was thinking that the smell was coming up from the crawlspace but it doesn’t smell like insulation at all in the attic

Don’t underestimate stinky closet. Any advice or things to try would be appreciated. Does anyone know of a good stinky closet tech?

GE Profile Induction Cooktop Crack. Any idea of cause?

Elements shut off during normal cooking and the range started flashing 12:00 like when the power goes out. Looked after to find that the two elements that I was using developed small cracks.

Not looking forward to the GE warranty process but wondering if any insight as to why this would happen? Or has anyone had something like this happen with their induction range?

Crack on GE induction range, 2 months old. What to expect with warranty?

I was cooking as normal and all of the sudden both burners shut off, looked after and noticed this crack on the main burner (about 1”). Nothing dropped on the glass.

What can I expect with the warranty process? I bought it at Lowe’s 2 months ago but did not purchase an extended coverage.

Copper pipe secured with wood chip?

Pipe comes out from crawlspace and goes outside to faucet. It is stuck in there pretty dang good though I haven’t pulled with any real force. Seems unsafe to me - any opinions / advice? TIYA

EDIT: happy to hear the wood chip is legit! Thank you all

TV console color clashing?

Love the size of this new tv cabinet but not so sure about the color next to our already busy flooring. Opinions? Ways to address? I can return the tv stands.

Edit: thank you all for your input thus far! The coffee table will not be staying long term, I am more concerned with the warmer tones of the floor & paint vs the tv stands. TIYA!

If the tv stand stays we will add decor and some wall art / floating shelves to use some of the blank space

Finishing touches?

Hoping someone with a good eye for interior design can offer a few suggestions as we finish up our first renovation - happy to have come this far from a living room we used to truly despise!

- Baseboards

- Window trim

- Fireplace surround & hearth extension

Is $1700 a reasonable install rate?

- Engineered hardwood
- HCOL area in NW Washington
- 220sq ft simple layout
- Glue down + nails install
- No demo work required, just minor subfloor prep (sanding, likely no self leveler) then install
- I already have the flooring. Just labor and install materials

Adhesive on 1x6 planks under OSB or just screws?

The original subfloor is 1x6 T&G planks that have all been screwed to the joists and all existing nails have been re-bedded.

I am about ready to start installing this OSB with a ton of screws. I have heard different information on wether to use a subfloor adhesive or not (in addition to screws) - it seems like if I were installing directly onto joists it would be a no brainer to use adhesive but I have heard that when installing over existing planks like this it is better not to use any?

Any input / advice on the use of adhesive? TIYA!

Close, not close enough or different enough? Input greatly appreciated!

EDIT: I have no intention of installing the flooring in this pattern, I just bought one box and laid it out to see how it would look in general

Have maple hardwoods that we love but we will be going with an LVP for the room we are renovating, It is an entry room and sees high traffic. We also have a dog and have noticed scratching on the hardwoods since we moved here so that’s another + for LVP or something similar.

I like the character of this LVP but I am almost wondering if it is too close the the hardwoods but also not close enough, if that makes sense.

All input appreciated! TIYA

Replacing subfloor / underlayment on top of 1x6 floorboards

I am in the process of renovating a room and just removed tile flooring. The underlayment for the tile flooring was this particle board and I think it is likely best to replace this entirely rather than try to remove thin set / fill the missing chunks that ripped out along with the tile.

All of the subfloor replacing videos I can find online have the subfloor being supported by joists. I have what looks to be 1x6 tongue and groove - does anyone have experience or advice for replacing sub flooring on top of this 1x6?

Any experience, links, or advice would be greatly appreciated! TIYA
