I couldn’t find the no planaria or dog dewormer for anything less than 70$ which sucks so im going to ask my local fish store if they have any they’d sell me just the doses I need.

If I can’t get it in time how may of my shrimplets will die? Like 60% 80%? My hydra are green so I’m hoping they’re full from photosynthesis and not hungry for babies

This is my new son, he is a plakat mustard gas betta, his name is not yet decided but the contenders are

- Novichok: Novi for short, a play on the chemical weapons theme of his colour morph and the fact that he’s the newest pet and Novichok means ‘newbie’

- Kingfisher: his colours look similar to a kingfisher bird

- Finn McCool: anglicized form of an Irish mythological figure and come on it’s a fish named Finn McCool

Whatever the name is he’s been home for 3 days and is still rather skiddish, he hides in the back of his tank and is generally not exploring a whole lot (at least not while I’m around)

What I’ve done so far
- kept lights off as much as possible (still turn them on a wee bit for my plants
- ordered him a betta float bc he’s been resting on my filter sponge
- added tannins w/ almond leaves
- left him alone most of the time
- checked my parameters 5 times in the past 3 days (0 on everything)
- convinced myself I’m a horrible betta dad and deserve death for my crimes against fishmanity

Any advice? Or votes on the proposed names?

He looks a bit rough atm he was like that in the store, hoping he perks up, he had cattapa leaves for tannins

Acclimatized him 45 min in the tank in his bag then added 1 spoonful of aquarium water to his transport water until I had 3x the original amount. He was swimming around a bit and ate a pellet so I added him to the tank then he immediately hid in a dark corner and flopped weirdly, he righted himself but is still hiding at the bottom is this normal? Is he just stressed

He’s getting supplemental calcium for his shell and the store owner did offer to take him back (small local shop) but I feel sorta responsible for him now

He’s eating fine and is very active I just want to know if there’s anything else I should do for him and if needed how does one humanely euthanize a snail?

Yes I know my pH is bad for the snails and shrimp atm but they’re getting supplemental calcium so that should tide them over until I can buffer up the pH, doing that currently with cuttlebone and crushed coral (thanks for the recommendations)

The colour of the nitrate tube is much more orange in person, how is it possible I already have nitrate??

Driftwood will be added once I finally finish boiling it, more plants on the way I just wanted to get a head start on the cycle.
I’m adding more ammonia tomorrow to help with the cycle.
