Why do you garden?

Location- Ranchi

Hey, I'm writing a substack essay on my father's garden and want to explore the emotional aspects of a gardener's mind while gardening along with other stuff. Just curious about other gardeners in India and whether there's a pattern or social phenomenon panning out in India regarding urban gardens. A very region specific reason perhaps! I wanna know all about it. Actually I got curious about it after reading My Father's Garden by Hansda Sowvendra Shekhar. My idea was to read more on why do men garden? But I would love to know women's perspectives too.

If you're a gardener from India, please do contact me. Let's discuss a very quintessential question: why do you do gardening? The philosophy, the poetry, the botany, the economics, all of it!

Your views on Gerald Durrell?

A few days ago I found some books by Gerald Durrell on sale at a second hand bookstore. I searched more about him. He was a pretty famous naturalist but his books were about fortress conservation, like the idea of him collecting animals for his zoo was uncomfortable for me. But his books are highly rated. So I'm confused. Whether I should give them a read or not. Please help.

Books on wildlife conservation and sciences

I'm a student, currently taking a drop for preparation in masters of Wildlife Sciences. I'm a humanities student, so it takes me a little more time to ease in with the biological sciences. I want to be a wildlife conservationist and my dream work is to work on the wildlife corridors of elephants, especially for the Asian elephants of Jharkhand 🤎.

I use digital archives mostly to read books on biology and wildlife sciences but I still can't find some books online. So, here is a request to help me in either finding them or you can send me books. My family is currently not financially stable so they don't provide me with pocket money. Any help will be appreciated. I'm from India btw.

Ecologists from Chotanagpur Plateau Region?

I'm actually looking for ecologists, naturalists, conservationists or nature enthusiasts from Chotanagpur region. I don't know where to find them. I've started a book club based in the Chotanagpur Plateau region. Trying to put together people in one place and read books from the region or about the region and try to build our own ecological identities out of it. An attempt to create a community where we read books and take those books beyond their ambit, turn it into a space for dialogue. If you know anyone from that region, or you yourself are, then please DM to join.

Literature students from Ranchi?

Hey guys, I started a bookclub around nature writing and tribal literature named Sakhuaa Literary Society a few days ago. We are a small group of around 30 members! But there is a shortage of literature girlies in our book club. Gotta need more women/queer members in our little literary society. Also, anybody interested in reading books seriously, can join the club too. This is the book we're reading currently! Discussion on this book will happen on 16th August 🤎.

Starting a bookclub guys!

After overthinking and constantly questioning my decision, I'm finally thinking of starting a book club. A very niche one I know, but trust me, it's going to be a cool thing. I am just trying to connect with cool people on the Internet, always dreamed of making nerdy friends from my region. Also, swipe till the last to see a map I made for Chotanagpur Plateau 🥺.

So yeah, if anybody wants to be part of the club, kindly DM 🤎.
