Book unhaul

A little update, three books are sold. These books are still available :

  1. The Spell of the flying foxes

  2. Sivadasa

  3. I saw myself (Hardcover)

  4. A gujarat here, A gujarat there

I'm selling this remaining stack for 600rs (plus shipping), since the books are full of vivid stories and anecdotes. Each one is special on its own.

My personal favourite is I Saw Myself where Shabnam Virmani goes on a journey to find Shah Abdul Latif. This book was so intriguing that I have a copy of Risalo too to make me go on my own journey to find him. But in the way, you'll find nature. That's where my love for ecology and nature writing emerged from. Now my little book shelf is full of nature writing books, Risalo and other ecology guised as poetry books. Though this was my interpretation, yours can be different.

A gujarat here, a gujarat there is not just about partition. It's about belonging and identity. Two things that tussle within all of us. But from Sobti's perspective, all of it is part funny, part a city memoir, part memories, parts of a lot. Rightly so, Daisy Rockwell who translated this, called this a palimpsest. If you haven't read Krishna Sobti, you should read her. She was suchaaa radical person and more so a writer. I don't think so she would even want herself to be limited to an ambit of 'Indian writer'. She was much more than that.

I stumbled upon the spell of Flying Foxes at Daryaganj. One can always find such obscure writers there, such a delight that place is. An equally delightful read, nothing less whimsical.

All this is to say that I'm really sad that nobody asked me for these books 😭.
