I think I lost my passion for software development because of AI

I've been working on a personal iOS project for a few years now. Part of the excitement was building everything myself. But now that I can just use Claude or something to build entire screens and functions for me, it just doesn't seem fun anymore.

And I know I could just not use AI and do it myself but I still know and understand that I COULD do all of it instantly with AI. Is there something I can do to reignite my passion?

I used to love writing code but AI has made it feel meaningless when I know it can be done for me instantly and all I have to do is a little debugging if it's even necessary.

How is a shut in with no contact outside of family supposed to fill this in?

Are people with no social ties just screwed from getting a government job? What if someone spent their whole life inside their bedroom and wanted to finally get to work, but now they fail because they have no one besides themselves?

This image shows the required information for the background check using eAPP.

This doesn't apply to me, at least not all of it. But it got me thinking of the extreme. I don't have a "best friend." But I know there are people out there who have absolutely no one except their parent(s). Are these people just not eligible for government job that require this background check information. Are Air Traffic Controller jobs inaccessible to a social reject?

Has anyone used Proton Pass in Lockdown Mode for Safari on Mac?

Because it doesn't work. Someone posted about it a while ago but it just shows a blank screen. Someone made a post about it a year ago and was told:

“Thank you, we managed to reproduce it. This only occurs on MacOS 26 beta, as Safari doesn't properly whitelist the extension on this beta version. Our devs will investigate further to see if anything can be done on our end.”

But he followed up twice months apart and got ignored. We are into macOS 26 now and it still doesn't work.

What’s your worst sub story?

School is starting up again soon so we are in for some headaches. I just wanted to know what other subs have to deal with. It could involve students or staff.

Here’s my worst story.

I picked up a sub job for a new middle school. I had been a sub for over a year at this point. When I went to the new school everything was fine except for one interaction I had with a staff member.

Before I went to the classroom, I asked for the restrooms. Seems simple enough right? Usually someone would point you to the direction of the restroom and you’d be on your way. Not at this school. For some reason, the lady decided to walk me to the restroom then wait right outside the door.

This was a single person restroom not accessible to students btw. In some part of the building where it’s mainly staff. And the restroom walls were light enough to where you could hear inside and out. That’s the only reason I knew she was literally standing right outside the door waiting for me.

I was thinking to myself that I was lucky I didn’t have to shit. I only had to pee. And I don’t care about peeing in front of strangers or if they hear. But I do have a bit of shame and awkwardness if I shitting and farting and someone hears me. I do know that she heard me peeing because it was a heavy stream.

For context, I am a man and she was a woman. Afterwards, I was walked to class by her. Afterwards, she kept randomly entering the classroom while students were there like she was checking on me.

It doesn’t end there. That was day one. I subbed there again a few more times. It’s like she was always trying to catch me in the middle of something. By default all doors are locked. So when I would be on lunch break in the classroom, she would open the door extremely fast with her key and barge into the classroom. There was no knock. This was to give me some paperwork if I was moving to a different classroom at a certain time.

I’ve been subbing for 5 years now and I’ve never experienced a situation like that again. What really irked me was how fast she would unlock the door and rush into the classroom while I’m on lunch break. What was she trying to catch me doing?

I haven’t subbed at that school since. I know some of you have way worse stories than me but that’s my worst with a staff member.

This is why you shouldnt center your life around AI 🤣

It seems even Lumo isn't immune to giving laughably wrong information. Unless.. Proton actually is shutting down and hasn't told anyone yet! 😳

Can you increase the PIN code length on macOS and extensions to >6 digits?

I know on iPhone and Android, you can set a pin that is longer than 6 digits. I was wondering if you'd be so kind as to add this same capability to the macOS version as well as the extensions such as Safari and Brave Browser?

So it seems the generated password bug got worse

A couple weeks ago, I made a post here about how Proton Pass had passwords that were "strong" on macOS but "weak" on mobile devices. Well, it seems like there might have been an update since then but the update made it WORSE.

Now the macOS and iOS passwords are consolidated in their strength categories. So the two-word memorable password that used to be weak on iOS is now considered strong just like the macOS version.

However, I also have an Android device (Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra) and used that to figure out that now Android has stricter strength categories to get a strong password. I will attach all videos with labels. If you check my post from about 2 weeks ago, you'll see that the iOS version used to have the same strength categories as the Android does now. But now, it has been weakened to the macOS version.

Now I don't know what to believe. I will lean towards the Android's strength categories because it requires more characters which is always preferable, but now I feel I can't trust iOS or macOS to give me a proper strong generated password.

And now I'm worried that if another update is released, they will reduce the Android's stricter password generation down to the macOS and iOS versions. What exactly does Proton use to decide whether a password is vulnerable, weak, or strong anyway??

Can you increase the window size of the alias suggestion?

Whenever I am registering an account for a new website. I get prompted by Proton Pass for a email alias or password. That's good. The only issue is that it never displays the full email. I know it's small, but I'd like it to shown the full alias they are suggesting. I will attach an image showing what I mean:

In the screenshot, you see it says "eosfitnes... @simplelogin.com". The window can't be resized so there's no way to see what the rest of it say. I'd like to be able to know what the full alias email would be.

I am on a MacBook Pro.

Lumo fights VPN on Android

I notice that many times when I am connected to a VPN (surfshark), Lumo will refuse to work. It's only after I disable my VPN that Lumo will function normally. This only happens on Android as far as I know.

I am on a Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra using the Surfshark VPN. I've been noticing this for a couple weeks now. It doesn't happen all the time, but enough times that I managed to figure out that it's the VPN and Lumo not playing nice together.

Sometimes if I just keep quitting and relaunching the app, it will work. But when I turn off my VPN, I've never had this issue.

Here is a screenshot of what happens when I open Lumo while connected to the VPN:

Proton Pass has Passwords that are considered "Strong" on macOS but weak on mobile devices

In these two videos (on is MacBook, the other is iPhone), you can see that random passwords that are considered strong in the macOS application, are weak on mobile devices. I have passwords that I set in macOS where the app told me it was a strong password, but when I view the password on my iPhone, Samsung Galaxy S25, or iPad Pro, they are weak. Why is that?

I have already used the force synchronization. I have checked to make sure all my apps are up to date. I have quit and relaunched the apps. The only thing I haven’t done is delete and reinstall. So is this a bug anyone else has noticed?

I checked the Password Monitor tab all the devices. My weak password count is 120 on my MacBook and 123 on all my mobile devices. So is the MacBook version more relaxed when it comes to passwords? It seems like Proton Pass for Mac is more willing to label passwords as strong.

So far, I have only checked the "Memorable Password" type with periods.

Proton Pass MacBook App and Proton Pass Mobile Devices issue

So I noticed that I created a memorable password in Proton Pass for MacBook. Memorable as in using their memorable option. Not something I thought of. According to the app, it’s a strong pass. It has the green shield and says strong.

However, when I go to view the password on my iPhone, it says the password is weak and gives the orange shield.

And just to make sure, I also pulled up Proton Pass on my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and iPad Pro. They also say it’s a weak password.

I don’t have Windows device so I can’t check there.

So why is this? Why is the password strong on MacBook and weak on all my mobile devices?

Why does Lumo delete chats after a week?

Just wondering why the free version of Lumo is the only AI app that deletes your chat after a week. Even if you still actively engage with it.

I use Google Gemini, Claude, Copilot, ChatGPT, and Lumo. All free versions. The other apps hold on to my chats until I manually delete them. Even on the free versions.

I wish Lumo did the same. Is it some privacy or security thing or is it just to get users to upgrade to paid subscriptions? What would happen if I upgraded to a paid subscription, started many chats, then downgraded to the free versions after year? Would I really lose all my chats just like that?

Seems risky that the only way to keep your chats is to continue paying indefinitely.

I have things like custom cooking recipes and other how-tos that I don’t necessarily update often. Would be a pain to lose all that because I didn’t pay. I was thinking of asking Lumo more personal questions, but if it’ll all be lost after a week, then it doesn’t seem worth it.

Proton Emails can't be protected while using aliases

The only way for emails to be end-to-end encrypted is for both the receiver and the sender to be using proton emails.

This is from Proton's website:

"From Proton Mail to non-Proton Mail addresses

Messages in transit are encrypted with TLS. Most third-party email providers support this.

Once the email reaches your recipient, it isn’t end-to-end encrypted by default. So the recipient’s email provider may be able to access it.

To send end-to-end encrypted messages to a non-Proton Mail address, use our password-protected emails feature."

But there's a huge problem with this. If you send an email using an alias created in Proton Pass, and activate the password-protected email feature, your REAL PROTON EMAIL is leaked in the body.

So the only way to send E2E encrypted emails with proton is to make sure the other person is also using proton. Or be ok with your real email being exposed while using aliases and using the password protected feature.

Basically, there's no way to send an encrypted message from an alias without having your real email exposed.

Communication after Acknowledgment of TOL Acceptance

Has anyone received any communication after sending back the signed TOL and getting the confirmation email?

I'm worried I might have missed it in spam or accidentally deleted it. On the FAA Application Status site, it says:

"You've accepted your tentative offer letter! Keep an eye out for pre-employment forms and clearance instructions."

It's been like this for a few weeks with no updates. I'm leaning towards it just being normal government slow movement. But I just want to make sure if my case is isolated or if everyone else is waiting too.

Proton Pass not syncing on iPhone.

I am currently using Proton Pass on my iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, and MacBook. I notice that the iPhone version is not updating when I add a new password or make changes.

I have to manually go into the app and do the “Force synchronization.” This seems to only be affecting my iPhone.

If I make a change, such as updating an email or password, in the safari extension on my MacBook, the change is reflected almost immediately on my android.

Even as I typed this now, I updated a password like 5 minutes ago on my MacBook and the iPhone has yet to show those changes. But the changes have already updated on my Samsung.

I am about to force sync right now… and yep, after force syncing, my changes are now on iPhone.

Best Buy “Tech Fest Sale” is a lie

Some of the items actually INCREASED in price but are marketed as if they are decreased. For example, the Samsung T7 external 2TB SSD, was about $349 regularly.

But for this “tech fest sale” it is now $399 but says it has been marked down from $549. This is extremely deceptive. So anyone who buys now during this “sale” would actually be paying MORE.

Not cool Best Buy. Very not cool.

Edit: I didn’t know there were so many corporate defenders in this sub. It doesn’t matter if it “happens all the time”.

If a price has been the same for months, then one day there’s a “sale” in which the price actually increased, that’s wrong and dishonest.
