I’m really stressed and hoping someone familiar with CESEDA / renewals / droit au travail can help me understand my situation.
I’ve lived and worked legally in France for about 6 years. I’m American and work full time at an international school. I submitted a request for a new titre de séjour through ANEF as a spouse of a EU citizen before the expiration of my current travailleur temporaire salarié, also requested an attestation de prolongation d’instruction (API) on May 15 (thanks to the person here who gave me the link!) but I still haven’t received anything.
Basically, I was here as a worker but want to switch to be here as an EU spouse.
I’m getting really worried that my workplace will suspend me or fire me once my current card expires. They basically have no real HR department and don’t understand immigration law.

The problem is that these links seems to talk about:
- cartes de résident
- cartes pluriannuelles
- or titles valid more than one year
I don’t have that!
What makes this even more frustrating is that I think I SHOULD have had a pluriannual card years ago. Around year 4 in France, another lawyer tried to apply for one for me, but the prefecture only gave me 1 year. My OFII formation civique trainer and my current lawyer said I didn’t get the pluriannual card because my dossier didn’t contain the contrat d’intégration républicaine / formation civique documents from OFII.
HOWEVER: OFII never summoned me. I literally was never convoked for the formation civique until I had already been in France for around 6 years. So I couldn’t include documents I had never been given!!
The prefecture therefore just continued giving me 1-year cards.
Now I’m panicking because these legal protections about maintaining work rights after expiration seem focused on resident/pluriannual cards, and I’m afraid my employer will think they have to suspend or terminate me even though I renewed on time and my application is pending through ANEF.
My lawyer seems much calmer than I am, but honestly I don’t feel she’s being proactive enough considering my job could be at stake.
Has anyone here been in a similar situation with:
- ANEF renewal/change of status pending,
- spouse of EU citizen status,
- expired 1-year card,
- and continued right to work while waiting?
Did your employer accept proof of renewal? Did you receive an API after expiration? Were you able to continue working legally?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice because I’m starting to panic a bit about my titre de séjour renewal situation in France. I’m posting everywhere bc my lawyer hasn’t gotten back to me and I’m freaking out.
I submitted my renewal dossier through ANEF at the end of March, and my current titre de séjour expires in 10 days. I’m switching from a “travailleur temporaire/salarié” status to a “carte de séjour membre de famille de un resortissant UE” status because I married a non French EU citizen.
So far, I’ve only received the confirmation de dépôt, not a récépissé or attestation de prolongation d’instruction. Radio silence for 2 months.
I’m employed full-time and I’m worried about what happens if my card expires before I receive the attestation. I’ve already contacted my lawyer and also sent a message through the ANEF contact form requesting an API because I need proof for my employer.
Has anyone else been in this situation recently?
- Were you able to continue working with just the confirmation de dépôt?
- How long did it take to receive the attestation?
- Did your employer accept proof that the renewal was submitted on time?

I live a few miles from the Mediterranean and every spring the jasmine and honeysuckle blossoms everywhere and when the wind blows, it’s amazing. These are pictures I took yesterday. I want a photorealistic jasmine/honeysuckle and maybe linden blossom smell to put on me to match what I smell in nature. I don’t want a creamy, syrupy, “perfume-y” smell, I want green and fresh and floral, the kind of smell that turns your head. Often I’ll walk down a street and the breeze will carry a scent and I literally stop in my tracks and turn around, trying to find the flowers so I can stick my face in it. I don’t care what the other notes are, as long as there’s this fresh (but not soapy), green/white floral scent in it.
