My little Gibson family

Iv owned many Gibsons, my 1st was in 1978.

These instruments are everything I want, except I'm still searching for a P90 (sg or Lp Junior)

  1. 2000 R9

  2. CS 64 SG MURPHY ('2025)

  3. 2016 HUMMINGBIRD VINTAGE

  4. LPj DC bass. My newest guitar (2025 '64 SG reissue) looks the oldest ! ( Murphy Aged).

When my meagre finances will allow, I will add a P90 'something '.

Other than that, I'm sorted!!

CS SG + R9 Mono or Reunion Blue (Gig Bags)??

Hi all, I'm the proud owner of a 2000 R9, and CS '64 SG Murphy. I'm looking for 'The Best' gig bag for taking them out for a walk. I'm mainly a bass player, and my Sandberg Nighthawk has lived in a Mono for 3 yrs. It's great. Any Les Paul or SG owners use either brand ?

Good points/bad points??

I'm hoping 1 guitar bag, will cater to both my r9, and SG, possible, or not ???

Any thoughts, experiences, most welcome.

Ps, I'm still new here I hope this post is in the right spot.

3 weeks with a CS 64 SG Murphy

Iv owned this for 3 weeks. My first Murphy lab.

It's a bit deceiving, it looks old, yet , in many ways, it's a new instrument. After 1 week of daily playing, one of the vol 'pointers' became loose. Then the pick up selector switch , decided not to engage the bridge pick up. Both were remedied, in minutes. The trem is still a work in progress, although since I filed the top of both d and g nut slots, it holding good tune. The spring of the trem, very much, still feels new, not stiff, but.. new. I'm sure with use , it will ease up.

Overall, it's a " stellar " instrument! I love how it plays, and sounds. I was pleasantly surprised how good the custombuckers suit it.

I guess, I expected the Murphy Light aged, to be more than just looks, which is pretty silly, really. It's new, it just looks old.

What drives would you use for a PT20?

I have a Friedman pt20 mini combo + Friedman ported 12" Creamback. Currently I only use 2 pedals, a ep booster on the way in (set at 12)and a mxr delay in loop for slap. I usually use the medium or hi gain switch, with pre at 10 or Max 2.

What drive pedals are you folks pushing the front of your PT (or other Marshall flavoured amps)??

I ride the volume on my LP, and use all 3 pick up positions.

Replacement PUs for R9

Hi all, I'm curious what pick ups are people putting in their R9s ? Mine is a 2000, with 57 Classics, I like how it sounds, but I'm interested in what others have put in their R9s , and why ? Currently, my favourite PAF style pu, is BareKnuckle Mules, but I certainly haven't tried that many others.

Who else can't play guitar, in a shop?

Just for context, I'm a 66 year old musician, first guitar 1972, I'm currently in a gigging band, playing bass.

I recently bought a Gibson R9, and when trying it out, I left any skills I have, at the door..

I don't get nervous on stage, and can play 4 hr spots, mo worries. But, if I enter a shop and pick something up to play, I fumble around, play bum notes, and my timing is shot.

Anyone else, thus affiliated??

NGD Finally a R9

After months of looking and playing as many R9s I could, I finally found one that 'just felt right '. It a player, it sounds, and looks phenomenal (imho)

It's a 2000 , and for 26 yrs old, it's in very good condition. The action is low, and the frets easily have 90% of life.

I'm in love..

Hummingbird Vintage 2016

This is my " forever acoustic ". I bought it about 3 years ago. It took a little while to set it up, how i like it. I have it strung with 13s, and tuned 1/2 tone down. It plays and sounds amazing. And , for me, its a stunning looking instrument.

Hi all, I'm fairly new to here. I have a Friedman pt20 combo, running with a Friedman sealed 1x12.

A monumental mini stack. I currently use 2 pedals with it, a exotic ep booster pushing the input, and a mxr carbon delay set for mild slap, in fx loop. It all sounds great, but I would like, something to push it off the cliff gain wise, and hopefully tighten up a little. Eq pre or post? Od or dist, ...??

Anybody using drive pedal with pt20? Any thoughts or experiences, greatly appreciated ( I'm mainly a bass player)
