How can I get these dried blood stains out of my shoes?

I work in surgery and get blood on my shoes sometimes. I’ve tried scrubbing it with soap and water, and it helps, but doesn’t really get it out. I obviously don’t want to bleach them. Any ideas? Thank you!

Who needs a kid when you can play catch with your cat? He’s pretty good at it too!

Day 1 of my battle against the invasive grasses growing next to my building to protect the native lupine

California zone 6a

I recently found out that all of the grasses growing next to my building are invasive. I spent a while this morning pulling all of it up. It was trying to take over the native silvery lupine (Lupinus argenteus) growing all over the slope. I feel accomplished but still have more work to do this weekend, and the battle is only beginning!

I have this empty dirt/rocky/sandy slope next to my building that’s basically a no man’s land in between us and the Airbnbs next door. I’m on a mission to turn it into a beautiful wildflower field. I’m very happy that all of the lupine is growing so well and I want to protect it!

I’m trying to fill in this opening for a mug handle and I cannot figure out how. Please help

I’ve tried starting over and can’t even figure out how I got here. I’ve pretty much spent all day on this model and I’ve gotten to the stage where I just can’t figure anything out anymore.

I just want to fill in the opening for the mug handles so that the cupholder has no slots in it, and it’s just a consistent cylinder all around. I’ve tried moving the timeline back and deleting the extrude + combine/cut I did to create it, but it deletes the whole thing when I do that.

How can I do this easily? I know there’s an easy way, I just can’t get it right. Thank you

I planted some milkweed seeds two weeks ago in seedling trays and they’ve gotten much larger faster than I expected. This is my first time planting milkweed. Any tips on what to do next?

California zone 6a.

The roots are starting to come out through the drainage holes on the bottom of the tray. And as you can see, the stems are getting too tall and lanky for their own good. I’m not sure if I should keep them in the seedling trays for a few more weeks and just support the stems, or if I should transplant them soon. I’d really appreciate any advice!

Still a lot of snow in the high country!

Went on a short hike up to about 10,000 feet this weekend and the trail was completely buried in 2-3 feet of snow starting at around 9500 feet. Had to get pretty creative to get to our destination. It’s definitely still early season out here folks!

Thanks to the Redditor who posted about using a cat water fountain as a hummingbird bath! I did the same and I love it!

I’ve been trying to set up a mini hummingbird paradise on my deck for the past year, and the bath was the final touch. I hope they love it! They’re just starting to make their way back to where I live and it’s very exciting!

I wrapped it in little plastic decorative leaves to cover some of the steel up. I wasn’t sure if the steel would deter them so hopefully this works!

My experience with MedCerts employer-sponsored program

I was previously working a desk job at this hospital, and they opened up an in-house paid training program for scrub techs (only for existing employees). I was accepted and have been doing it full time for a month now. They use MedCerts for the classroom education portion, and then we have 9 months of clinical training before they have us work independently.

Because this is sponsored by my employer, I get to watch 1 surgery per day, help pull cases, spend time with SPD learning instruments, and spend the rest of the day on MedCerts. I can’t imagine doing this program on my own without having access to the surgical environment. The online program is okay, but it would be SO much harder if I wasn’t spending hours in the OR every day during it. Connecting what I’m reading with reality/something physical is massively helpful.

I would’ve been extremely disappointed if I had paid for this program myself. I don’t think it even comes close to preparing you for the reality of being a surgical tech. The demo videos they have look like they were made in the 90s. Most of what you’re learning is from reading an online textbook which is not helpful at all for actually learning this stuff.

I took the NCCT practice exam for the TS-C certification (which is what I’m working towards) and I was able to answer about half of the questions simply because of the time I’ve spent in the OR. I don’t know how you could possibly get a real grasp on any of this from doing 100% online learning.

So my point is, if you’re accepted into an employer-sponsored program with MedCerts (or really any online program), I think it’s fine, because you’re not paying for it and you’re learning. But I would not recommend buying this program on your own. It will not prepare you for the exam or the job. If you’re able to find a clinical placement, you won’t feel prepared at all.

**and for anyone thinking of commenting that I won’t get hired anywhere else with a TS-C, this hospital has absolutely incredible benefits and pay, and I’m never leaving here anyways. So I don’t care.

TLDR: don’t do an online program if it’s not sponsored by a hospital. It’s a huge waste of money

Some of the various useful and fun things I’ve printed in the last few months

I mostly use my printer for useful/functional things, plant pots and things, and gifts for friends. I love using my printer to solve little problems in my life!

I made the form deeper than the depth of the lock, so the lock just slides into the hole and does not touch the wall. It’s probably the most basic thing I’ve ever printed, but it’s going to make my life better. I love printing simple things that take away life problems!

I used Elegoo translucent PLA and attached it to the wall with very sticky double-sided tape

He’s 4.5 years old and we adopted him from a local shelter in March. He LOVES paper bags and tissue paper. He loves playing with his little toy mice. He loves being picked up! He hates lying in the sun except at the end of the day for a couple minutes. He’s not a picky eater and he loves drinking water and broths. He loves sleeping in a variety of places around our apartment.

He’s very smart, he learned his new name 3 days after we took him home. He understands us for the most part and he’s very happy and sweet.

We love him more and more every day!

My mom has extremely rapidly progressing dementia and we need a high quality facility for her. Budget is around 15k per month. We’ve visited the Carrington in Lincolnview, Artis in Wilmette, and Lincolnwood Village, and generally weren’t stoked with what we saw. Lincolnwood Village is still in the running, but it didn’t feel like a perfect fit, so we’re still looking. Carrington is maybe still in the running.

We’re looking for either a non-religious or Jewish facility that has high quality memory care. It’s been extremely difficult finding a place with legitimate reviews and I’m hoping someone here has personal experience with a great facility that they can recommend.

Thank you in advance
