Advice for first time Mammoth camp/hike/fish

This will be my first time camping up in the Eastern Sierras (I’ve spent all of my other time camping etc. on the sequoia side). I’ll be camping for two nights at the Coldwater Creek campground. I was debating doing an overnight hike and camp up near Duck Lake, but I’ve decided to just do a single day hike instead and sleep back at my designated campsite since I’ll be on a pretty short trip.

My question is, what other lakes along the duck pass trail would be good to hike to. I know I could make my way up to Duck Lake and back (a grind of a single day hike I know), but I’m going to reserve that for a one or two night camp down the road.

** I should preface that this is primarily to get in some good fishing as that’s what I plan on doing the entirety of my time there/my majority reason for the trip.

Thanks!

Visiting Mammoth for the first time what do I need to know?

Planning on going to rainbow falls and Devils postpile. I’ve heard the road is closed and you HAVE to take the shuttle which you have to pay for. We’re going 7/10-7/12 is there anyway to get there without having to take the shuttle? Also any recommends are welcomed

First time trip... over from UK

Hi there, Looking for some tips and guidance please. We're a group of 5 - advanced skiers/snowboarders - planning on going to Mammoth this coming winter, late February after President's Day for a week. Can anyone help out with what to expect, where to stay, lift pass advice etc. We'll have a car but prefer to be able to walk to the lifts if possible. All and any advice much appreciated, cheers.

Thanks to the fly fisherman who retrieved my daughter’s shoe from Hot Creek today

She kicked a rock and the shoe flew into the water. It stopped in the middle of the creek on a bed of grass. Right when we were about to give up you guys walked by and gently plucked the pink Croc out of the water. Thanks for saving us from a one-footed hop combination carrying back up the hill. I hope you guys catch every single fish!

Anyone have a baby nasal aspirator?

Hi, we got to mammoth today from Yosemite and our little girl has a runny nose that’s bothering her. It doesn’t seem that Vons has any type of nasal aspirator / snot sucker. I am wondering if anyone in town has one they are willing to sell or lend out?

Obviously we would fully disinfect everything with before and after use.

A bit desperate so posting here and in some fb groups.

If there is somewhere better to look or post please let me know!

Vibe of car traffic on Old Mammoth Road?

I'm planning a bike ride including Lakes Basin Path and considering returning to town on Old Mammoth Road, which looks like a really beautiful and fun descent. I'm an experienced road cyclist but I'm recovering mentally from a few crashes involving cars. I won't have a good time if there's aggressive traffic and would rather just descend on the path in that case. Planning for a holiday weekend too. Appreciate any insight you can give!

Bears!!

Hey all, today is my last day visiting Mammoth and I desperately want to see a bear (from afar and respectfully obviously). I’m staying in town and don’t have a car but can take the trolley to Lakes Basin. Any tips on the best spots to guarantee a bear sighting? I know they are everywhere but I haven’t been lucky enough to spot one yet 😔💔 Any tips are greatly appreciated, TIA!

I’m thinking of taking a driver to an area on Google Maps called Wild Horse Meadow. Any advice on tracking them down and seeing them from a distance?
