With the tragic news that has come to light today, I'd like to express my feelings here

I don't mean to pry but it's been on my mind all day at work and I feel the need to put it in writing. And here is probably the best place. It will be long but it will make me feel better.

Flashback to summer 2017, when I'm off school and visiting family overseas. I'm spending time with my cousins and they put on the PS4 to play Until Dawn, which was a free game at the time. By this point, my prior gaming interest had plummeted and I hadn't even turned a console on in several years; I just had a seven year old Xbox 360 with no interest in upgrading. So I'm not playing Until Dawn here but happy to watch to kill time.

We finish the game after a couple nights, after which the Until Dawn becomes one of my focal interests just like that. Watching it through, I was immensely impressed with the graphics, the gameplay features (the butterfly effect predominantly) and the story as a whole. It's not Shakespeare level writing, but it was my first exposure to it at such a level in a video game.

Come Christmas, my parents get me a PS4 and this game to accompany it; I played it more or less nightly and platinumed the game within a month. As a child I would play games to have fun, now I started to learn that these games could bring incredible stories and poignant characters to life.

After this I developed a strong passion for single player story-driven games; Uncharted, The Last of Us, Red Dead Redemption to name a few, and all of these games have given me memories and emotions that I had never experienced with a controller in my hands.

But all of this wouldn't have come to be without the catalyst; Until Dawn. And I must say predominantly, Hayden Panettiere.

There's a good argument that Sam is probably the most popular character amongst the fan base, even if she isn't your favourite it's hard to dislike her. She treats everyone with compassion, puts herself in danger with bravery if needed and she holds her beliefs strongly and doesn't let anyone's opinions sway her away from them. So naturally, Sam has been my favourite of the group ever since I played this for the first time. Plus with her being the first playable character (minus the prologue) and the last playable one too, I was able to connect with her more than all the others.

But all of this is thanks to the strong performance given by Panettiere. If you watch the behind the scenes interviews with the cast, you can tell that she really gets into playing Sam and is able to relate to her in multiple ways. That alone is quite nice to see. As I said this game doesn't have a groundbreaking story, but Panettiere does more than enough to give a believable performance to a fantastic character.

I hope this post isn't taken wrongly, I understand it's more related to the character over the actress that we have ultimately lost, but as I said I had to get this written down for my own sake. It's just starting to hit me now that we have lost a fantastic human being at far too young an age.

Until Dawn will always hold a special place in my heart, and Samantha Giddings will always be remembered personally as one of the first characters who I really grew a connection towards, one which I feel like I've been carrying nearly a decade later.

Rest in peace, Hayden Panettiere.

Any recommendations to go out for a steak?

I'll be staying overnight in Frome for a gig soon and I know I will fancy treating myself before the doors open.

I'm thinking a steak will be in order so I'm willing to take any recommendations that anyone may be able to offer? I've done some brief research and Castello Restaurant looks nice, but open to options.

Thanks

A tweet from MVG nearly nine years ago. I used to laugh at the blunt response, but now the landscape has changed a tad

Considering a trip to Bruges next year. Any particularly favourable time of year to go?

I have always thought of visiting the city and after years of fantasising it, I just need to give myself the green light and go ahead with ticking it off the bucket list. I'd like to visit at some point in 2027, I'd just like any input on when may be best to go over.

I don't mind going at a touristy time; I can handle a crowd. The temperature would probably be the key factor though, I don't know Belgium's climate but I'd prefer to go when it's not scorching or freezing (if I had to pick one, it would be the latter).

I would also prefer a time where any outdoor markets are in spades and any cultural things to do are open (the canal rides, museum visits etc.)

In short, I'd like go when temperatures won't be extreme, the local activities will be on regularly and if I can climb the Belfry, I'd be a happy man (I assume it's open all year round but if not, I'd like to go when it is).

Happy to take any input that may be on offer.
Thank you in advance.

By the way, the inevitable In Bruges references are welcome here! As much as I would like genuine advice, I do love the film big time.

Going to Frome for a gig, travelling via Bristol. Looking for itinerary advice

I'm attending a gig in Frome on a Saturday night later in the year; will be flying into Bristol just after 8am that morning, then flying back about 7:30pm the next evening. I would like to make as much of the trip as I can as I've never explored anywhere around here before.

I'm looking at spending time in Bristol, Frome and maybe even Bath as well, since I've heard good things about there as well. I'm just wondering how best to split my weekend between these places, since I don't have much time albeit.

Happy to take recommendations anyone would be willing to offer. I like calling in at pubs, visiting cathedrals, little cafes and the like. I'd also like to explore the culture of these places if there's anything in particular to do whilst I'm around that I wouldn't get to see to elsewhere?

Thanks.

Simon is totally willing to get sex advice from Jay, to the point where he's so desperate that he sends a frustrated Tara to bed on her own just to have a talk with him.

I wouldn't have thought he would speak to him, given the fact that he calls Jay out numerous times on his bullshit and/or his virginity throughout the series. He is wise enough to refuse help from Will (for good reason), but surely he knew Jay wouldn't have been any better help either?

Not meant to be a criticism, I still like the episode. I just think Simon kinda went against his character here, just food for thought.

Is anything going on with The Empire yet?

I'm not in the loop as I am not a local, but would like to know if anyone may have taken over the venue yet or are there any plans for it?

I visited numerous times in the past couple years and I thought it was such a great place. My family and I had some brilliant nights there whilst on holiday, so we were absolutely gutted to learn it was closing down.

Thanks for any info

Basically, I would like get a list of my top artists from the past 90 days, with their scrobble values, and export this data into Excel for my perusal.

Some of you may remember tools.fm, that site allowed you to put your whole artist chart for any timeframe into text and I was able to copy and paste straight into Excel. It did exactly what I wanted within a minute, but the site went down a couple years ago so that's out the window.

While it's possible to do this through the site itself, it has to be done page by page and so I can only copy and paste 50 artists at a time, so it takes quite long. The formatting isn't great either but my main concern is the time it takes.

You can get a full list as well on lastfmstats.com, but no matter what device I use, it doesn't paste every single artist I copy. I don't consider that to be an issue with the site however.

Thanks in advance.

This was harder than I thought! I'd like to say this is a spectacular game all the way through; I hated to put some so low, but had to be done.
