Let's pretend you get to make a Resident Evil movie. How would you go about it?
Which game are you choosing to adapt, or would you go with an original story like Paul W.S. Anderson and Zach Cregger?
I think I'd stick to simply adapting RE1. The small cast of characters and claustrophobic setting, with the whole Wesker betrayal/Umbrella conspiracy, would make for a great movie I think. I'm just asking because lately I've been watching stuff like 30 Days of Night or Dog Soldiers, or even the 2002 RE movie, which all deal with a group of characters surviving a menacing situation, and I think it would be nice to adapt RE1.
Which of these 6th gen survival horror games is your favourite?
Huge fan of Resident Evil and Silent Hill, curious to play some other survival horror games from this list. Which one do you prefer and why would you recommend it? I'm particularly curious about Forbidden Siren
Watched this movie a couple days ago and honestly loved it. Thoughts on it?
I remember hearing about this movie back in the day (I was 7 when it released) but never watched it until a couple days ago. I absolutely loved it, it's one of the most engaging vampire movies I've seen in a long time. The only thing I didn't quite like was how sudden the third act concluded, felt like they could've rounded it up a little better. But, in all honesty, I'm quite surprised not many people seemed to like this movie, as it was poorly received critically when it came out.
What do you think about it?
As Resident Evil fans, how did it feel to live through the year 2002?
I was born in 2000 so I was too young when these two came out. As Resident Evil fans who lived through the year 2002, how did it feel like? What were your thoughts at the time about Paul W.S. Anderson's movie and the RE1 remake for Gamecube?
For people who also like horror movies, what movies would you recommend to someone who loves Silent Hill?
since everyone is doing it: lowest rated reviews on my Letterboxd four favourites
OPINIONS on Marcus Nispel's Texas Chainsaw Massacre?Just watched it
The original Texas Chain Saw Massacre is one of my favourite horror movies ever, I just think it's flawless in its rawness and simplicty. Lately I've been getting into 2000s horror a lot, and Marcus Nispel's remake of TCM had been on my radar for a long while now, but I had never gotten around to watching it. I gotta say I kinda... f***ed a lot with this movie? Like, yeah, it's of course not as good as the original, not as sharp and not as clever, but I loved the consistently disgusting atmosphere, the atmosphere of it all throughout (the cinematography is very good), I liked the characters even in all their dumbness, and LOVED the new Leatherface family, specially the sheriff and the two women at the van. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by it, I would rewatch it immediately.
What are your thoughts on the movie?
As a horror fan I adore how many of Batman's villains fit so perfectly in the horror genre
I think you could make the case that all of these (and more I didn't include) would make perfect protagonists or antagonists for a horror movie. I think, were they to make some other horror movies in the style of 'Clayface', Scarecrow would be the one I'd be the most excited about.
What's your favourite movies from the DCU's Apokolips Saga?
It feels like the DCU has been struggling to keep a consistent quality in this decade, with the overstuffed Crisis Saga and countless HBO shows. However, there was a time from 2008 to 2019 where they were kings of the world. The Apokolips Saga delivered some of the most beloved superhero movies ever. To recap all of them:
PHASE ONE
- The Batman (2008)
- Superman: The Man of Steel (2008)
- Wonder Woman (2010)
- The Flash (2010)
- Green Lantern (2011)
- Batman/Superman: World's Finest (2011)
- Justice League (2012)
PHASE TWO
- Batman: Under the Red Hood (2013)
- Wonder Woman: Paradise Lost (2013)
- Superman and the City of Kandor (2014)
- New Gods (2014)
- Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps (2015)
- Justice League vs the Legion of Doom (2015)
- The Flash of Two Worlds (2015)
PHASE THREE
- Superman: Doomsday (2016)
- Batman: Knightfall (2016)
- Green Lantern: Blackest Night (2016)
- New Gods: Volume 2 (2017)
- The Flash: A Leap Through Time (2017)
- Wonder Woman: All Gods Must Die (2017)
- Aquaman (2018)
- Justice League: Apokolips War - Part One (2018)
- Nightwing (2018)
- Supergirl (2019)
- Justice League: Apokolips War - Part Two (2019)
What movies are your favourites? I think the best ones might be both Apokolips War movies that brought everything to a satisfying conclusion, with Darkseid as probably the best villain in any cbm ever. I also think the first Batman and Superman: Doomsday might be in my top as well.
What's your opinion on each RE Engine Resident Evil game?
I'm currently replaying Requiem and, with the excitement of RE: Veronica, it got me wondering what y'all think of each RE Engine game — like, how do you review it overall, and how do you rank them.
For me, the ranking would be RE7, RE2, RE4, Requiem, Village and RE3.
Resident Evil 7 is not only my favourite RE game, but my favourite survival horror of all time (with permission of Silent Hill 3). I just love how incredibly disturbing, filthy and haunting the atmosphere is. It really was such a wonderful ride to play it for the first time back in 2017, slowly uncovering the mystery behind its story, exploring the Baker house and facing the absolute nightmare that was Ethan's journey to Dulvey. After nearly ten years, I still have a blast every time I replay it. It obviously doesn't feel as scary now that I know this game so deeply and have replayed it countless times, but it was the only game to ever give me nightmares even years after its release.
Resident Evil 2 is, in my opinion, the only RE game that could ever dispute RE7's throne as my all-time favourite. I was so excited for this game when it came out, played through it in a weekend and loved every second of it. It was simply mesmerizing to see such a classic game reimagined with such passion, love and care. I've also replayed it countless times, and every time I do I enjoy it so much. If anything, I wish the B scenarios were a bit more thought out, since they seem like the devs felt "forced" to include but didn't put much care into them.
Resident Evil 3 is a controversial one, but I like it. As a remake of the classic game, it really lacks effort, and is a letdown after RE2. Still, I had a great time playing it — I love Jill, Carlos, Raccoon City and the story so much. It's not a perfect game by any means, but I have also replayed it a lot and I have tons of fun with it. I think my personal experience with the game (playing it during lockdown, which was a very strange but very peaceful time in my life) also contributes to the fact that I like it so much, honestly.
Village is kind of a mixed bag for me. I love most of the game, but the parts I dislike, I really dislike. The Dimitrescu castle, House Beneviento and the factory are all RE highlights for me personally. I love that each of them delivers a different approach to horror, Dimitrescu's Castle being a more classic-styled RE, House Beneviento leaning towards almost P.T. territory, and Heisenberg's factory going all out on the techno-horror in all its wackiness. That being said, I think the Moreau section is the weakest of them all, and I HATE Chris's playable sections being essentially Call of Duty with werewolves. I think the game tries to juggle so many things together that it doesn't always stick the landing, but overall I think its story, atmosphere and gameplay make up for it.
Resident Evil 4 is just superb. I admit I was never a huge fan of the original — I'm not really into the action-horror era of RE and, although I know RE4 is a great game, it's just not my cup of tea. That being said, the remake is just a masterpiece of a game. They perfectly balanced the action sensibilities of the original with a more horror-focused approach, making for an intense experience that, I think, may objectively be the best RE game, period. Leon in this game is just a delight to behold, the gameplay is incredible, the atmosphere and visuals are top notch, and it's got a lot of replay value. Pitch perfect game.
As for Requiem, the latest installment in the series, I think it succeeds completely in doing what Village tried to do back in the day. By having Leon and Grace as co-protagonists, the game is allowed to flow between the horror and action sections much better, delivering both the dread-inducing experience of something akin to RE7 or the earliest sections of Village with the action-packed spectacle of RE4. Grace is a great protagonist and, although the first time I played the game I didn't fully feel immersed in her sections (picking third person was really the wrong move), replaying it now is being an incredible experience. If anything, I think the devs should've felt more confident in their vision and stuck with first person for Grace and third for Leon, instead of giving the option of choosing when clearly each section is tailor-made for a specific perspective. Still a wonderful game that I'm loving much more the second time around.
Any good horror comics I can sink my teeth into?
I've got my eye set on the Universal Monsters line of comic books that have been published recently, but I wanna discover some alternative comics that tackle horror in all its forms. For reference, my favourite horror movies are The Exorcist, Evil Dead, Veronica or Color Out of Space, amongst others.
I'm open to any sort of recommendation!
Pleasantly surprised by Smile 2
I watched the first 'Smile' in theaters drawn by the good word of mouth it had generated around horror fans. Sadly, I got out of the theater feeling a bit letdown by it, and absolutely indifferent although I understood what the movie was trying to do. When 'Smile 2' came out and it, again, produced a positive buzz around it, I decided to skip it in theaters due to my disappointment with its predecessor.
I watched it tonight and, wow, was I wrong. 'Smile 2' is such a wild ride in every sense of the word and, in the middle of all its glorious, bloody chaos and rollercoaster approach to its tone, I feel like this time writer/director Parker Finn has found a way to properly develop the themes it's going for. I not only had the most amazing time watching it, but I think the horror here works really well as an allegory for the pressures of fame, the toxicity of the celebrity life, and the toll it bears on those who are in the spotlight of it.
If anything, my only gripes with it are the overuse of jumpscares which, although I get are a staple of modern commercial horror, I tend to not like very much — and, in this case, I think they're not very well implemented.
A pleasant surprise I thoroughly enjoyed and whole-heartedly recommend to anyone who, like me, didn't give it the chance while it was running in theaters.
I wish we could've seen a 3rd Spider-Man game in this continuity. What villains and guest stars would you have included?
Do you think RE: Veronica can reach the same level of RE2?
Resident Evil 2 remake is probably my favourite RE game of all time and, since it's release, I've been wishing for a Code Veronica remake. Since the developers have said the game will take a similar approach to RE2 in terms of style and gameplay, I was wondering: do you think RE: Veronica has the potential of reaching the same quality of RE2?
My favourite horror movies of this decade
I'm utterly mesmerized by the amazing decade of horror we're having, so I wanted to include my favourite, 10 out of 10 movies I watched since 2020. I know some of these are a bit controversial, but it's just my personal opinion. Share yours!
David Corenswet is appearing as Superman for three consecutive years. We're living such a great time for the character
The DCU will turn two years old next year and David Corenswet will have appeared as Superman in three different movies by then: Superman in 2025, Supergirl in 2026, and Man of Tomorrow in 2027.

For reference, four was the total number of times Henry Cavill played Superman in the DCU, including Man of Steel in 2013, Batman v Superman in 2016, Justice League in 2017 and Black Adam in 2022.

It's still unbelievable to me that we went from the 2010s, when Superman's reputation was at an all time low in pop culture, to this resurgence of his popularity in the last couple years. Truly a great time to be a Superman fan!
Welcome to the club, RE: Veronica!
I have loved each of the new REmakes so far, and been wishing for a Code Veronica remake ever since the days of Resident Evil 3. I'm so hyped that it's finally releasing next year — probably my most awaited game right now along with FF7 Revelation. Really hoping it delivers an experience on the level of RE2, which in my opinion is the best game in the series.
Peter and Mary Jane from Ultimate Spider-Man might be my favourite relationship in all of comic books
they feel so imperfect, so flawed, so deeply human. their dialogue exchanges throughout the series are written with such naturalism it comes across as a real couple, and I love that. Bendis was very good in this series.
Pitch me your idea for a horror movie starring a Batman villain. What's the story and tone?
We're getting 'Clayface' this year, but I wanna know what are your potential ideas for another horror movie starring a Batman villain. For example, a psychological horror starring Two-Face, or a slasher movie with Scarecrow. What are your ideas? Feel free to explain them as detailed as you wish!
