Is rage art considered cheap? Is there any way other than R2 to execute that?

I think it happened before but it definitely happened yesterday:
caught someone with rage art and the next round he kept spamming that interafce that shows auto inputs (im a SF players i know Tekken has the option to "activate" modern mid fight).
So if i am understanding correctly the dude tried to point out that i needed modern help but all i did was R2 - is that not the correct way?
PS: btw fuck the guys opinion lol but this still got me interrested in what people think of 1button supers and especially why he would call that modern / simple?
