nam tok moo with sticky rice and (formerly) long beans!

nam tok moo with sticky rice and (formerly) long beans!

recipe from hot thai kitchen's cookbook, which i bought on a whim and have never regretted. i've been eating this pretty regularly because pork tenderloin has been cheap and this is easy to make, with the side veggie rotating between beans, cabbage and lettuce.

regular shmegular wedding guest fit

i am now very hung over from a very fun wedding! knocking down a bowl of pho and a can of diet coke as i type this.

besides celebrating love, i am also celebrating the fact that I've now attended 12 weddings in the past 2 years. yes, it is getting very expensive. yes, that square in my pocket is whisky (i'm a professional guest at this point).

the outfit journey was a rather stupid comedy of errors:

- i dropped off a different jacket and shirt that i'd wanted to wear at the dry cleaner's and they told me it would take 5 days (the wedding was in 2 days)

- when i pulled out my 2-piece suit as my backup, i found holes in the pants, so i was forced to go broken suit

- my only other shirt (white) had horrible red smears on it from whoever used the washing machine last, so i had to run to uniqlo and, now wary of white clothing, picked up this too-casual linen shirt. at least i was comfy for the summer wedding.

kimchi and pickled herring

sloppy girl lunch.

The backstory is massively boring, so all I'll say is that it's been a brutal 1.5 weeks at work, and my fridge is bare. I couldn't bring myself to add capers, olives or anchovies to this plate.

Edit: Absolutely housed this at my desk. Tasted alright, would add rice and maybe an egg over easy for a full meal, plus a beer on the side.

Would you have won the photo contest in EwB?

I have 6667 photos, so I would've lost big time.

Also, projecting someone's private phone onto a giant screen at a corporate event without prior notice felt like an HR violation (talk about HR is WATCHING 👀)...

Humid weather and sensory issues: body lotions

Hi! I live in a place with hyper dry winters and hyper humid summers. I grew up with my parents slathering Keri all over me as a child, and then nothing after I got a to a point where I had a choice. Since I started getting tattoos (the past 14 years, to be clear—I am over 30 lol), I've been using unscented Lubriderm and Curel, which have left me pretty dry through every season. I've gotten sick of my skin flaking, so I picked up a tub of Vanicream this past winter, whose texture I absolutely hate, but which I begrudgingly admit kept my shins from cracking.

However, since the weather's recently become 90%+ humidity, the trade-off between moisturising and feeling sticky is getting hard to handle. Particularly, after I apply lotion, my palms feel horribly sticky, and when I inevitably need to wash my hands, they have a slimy layer on top that drives me mad. And then, on very humid days, my whole body is sticky and I want to take my skin off entirely.

Does anyone have a single unscented body lotion that delivers in both humid and dry weather? Should I bite the bullet and have separate lotions for different seasons? Is there some body lotion wisdom that I've been missing this whole time?

What was Lal preparing for breakfast? A salad?

Also, her fridge is apparently just product placement and leafy greens haha

farewell to the best characters in hometown romance 🥲

I loved this show btw. LMSY fit so perfectly in a comedy, the opening theme's a banger, the story was (mostly) so unserious that I could just turn off my brain and let it wash over me. I'll miss them all!

Tree planting in EWB...

.... made me IRRATIONALLY ANGRY about a fictional company. Also, Wine's consideration for plants is very 🔥

Never forget that corporations are always lying to you. Trust no one!

I hadn't expected Si's handwriting to look like that (Hometown Romance)

Her numbers look like a kid's handwriting 😂 I guess she doesn't write very often?

i love my queer friends!!

My straight friends are cool and all (yes, I have straight friends, it's an occupational hazard), but my fruity friends are the glue that holds me together, they are the lights of my life, they are my heart and my soul and my everything. And even better, I know that they feel the same about me. Go tell your friends that you appreciate them!

Suggest a very light summer fragrance...

... scent, perfume, whatever! I'd prefer scents that aren't sweet or too floral.

Musks or adjacent scents mix with my sweat pretty badly—for example, JHAG Not A Perfume and others like it seem to turn cloying. Certain "men's" scents that have woody/sandalwood notes often turn into something vaguely like BO—this is a weird example, but my brother had a bottle of Boss In Motion way back when, and on both of us it just smelled unpleasant after a couple of hours. Even stuff like og Old Spice deodorant goes sour after I've sweat into it.

Jo Malone's Wood Sage & Sea Salt (and its Dossier dupe, I use both) has been my four-season staple for years, but it's still a little sweet to me sometimes. Plus, I want a little more variety at this point. Plus plus, it's like $250+ Canadian per bottle. Any suggestions?
