Chronic migraines making me feel like I can’t live

This is really just a vent post. Sorry I know there’s a lot of these on here but I just wanna get this out. Sorry for the formatting on mobile.

My migraines become chronic in December. I had them as a teenager but it was rare. I’ve seen a neurologist once and I had a brain MRI which was normal. He wrote me amitriptyline which I had to stop due to the side effects being unbearable. My PCP also figured out my vitamin D was extremely low so I’ve been supplementing and it helped for a while then stopped. I have another neurology appointment Monday.

Last week I had a 4 day migraine, the longest I’ve ever had. I called my neurologist and he told me to go to the ER. I went and got a migraine cocktail which fixed it, but Monday morning I got ANOTHER migraine. It’s still here. My meds aren’t helping, ibuprofen isn’t helping, showers aren’t helping, ice packs aren’t helping, nothing is working. I don’t wanna go back to the ER if I can avoid it but I’m at a loss.

I haven’t been able to do anything this week other than work. I took off 1 day last week but I can’t just take a whole week off. My jobs understanding but not THAT understanding.
I can’t do anything when I get home other than cook dinner, shower, and lay down with an ice pack on my head. I can’t enjoy anything. I haven’t been able to sleep well either due to the pain.

I’ll ask if there another preventative medicine I can try when I see my neurologist.
Thank you to anyone who took the time to read my rambling.

Should I switch careers?

I’m currently a medical assistant and have been for 6 years. The healthcare system is so broken, dealing with patients passing, making DCF/CPS cases is just so hard. It’s miserable. I’ve always loved science, learning about rocks, and problem solving. I’m not concerned about “low” pay because the entry level salaries are still way more than I make now. Working outside and traveling sounds like a dream because I spend 90% of my time indoors. I’ve done a good bit of research of different careers you can do within geology and right now mining or GIS sound the most interesting. I know the industry isn’t perfect but it seems way better than what I’m doing. Any experiences or advice would be appreciated!

Trying to figure out if this job is a scam

I got accepted this remote job for medical assisting that pays $40 an hour. It’s way over market rate, but it’s an international company so I figured they just pay higher. I haven’t had a phone call with anyone, but there has been a lot of communication through email or Teams. The interview was done over Teams and a form to fill out. I didn’t think this was weird because a lot of the job is text chat based.

They emailed me a $4,000 check for equipment and my bank did accept it. Only about $450 was available due to processing times. I was told to just send part of the money through Zelle to a vendor they use, or go out and buy my own computer and mail it to the company. I did send the money over but I haven’t hear anything back for an hr after the hiring manager said she was gonna very if the payment was received.

I can verify the company is real, there’s a website, a Linkden page. I probably should have thought more before cashing the check or sending money, but I’ve never worked remotely before and I didn’t know if this is normal or not.

Taking off for an interview?

I got offered a job interview tomorrow 6/12 at 11AM for a significantly better paying job than what I have right now, more than double. The hiring manager said that I fit 100% of the qualifications so it seems likely I will get it, but of course no guarantee. I’m not sure how to go about calling out? My current job requires a note for any time missed off work and not provided one might result in me getting fired. Any advice is appreciated, thank you!

EDIT: I work in a doctor’s office so I can’t have anyone cover my shift or take an early lunch.
The note policy is due to a previous employee who ruined it for everyone. It’s not a fair rule I know. Any time off typically needs 2 weeks notice.
I emailed the recruiter to try to move it to my lunch break or after work.

Car squeals when first starting?

I have a 2015 Kia Soul that squeals really really loud for 10-30 when I first start it. It stops after I accelerate more. My catalytic converter doesn’t work (I’m in FL so not required to have a working one). It’s worse when it’s hot out. Any ideas what this could be?
