Tent with bottom access?

I'm tinkering around with designs for a camper I'm building out, and one option might be to use a bottom-entry tent that sits above a hard shell camper. I currently have a roofnest which is... doing okay but it would be nice to have a full setup that I could get in and out of from inside the camper trailer without going outside.

Googling around is not helping me as I keep getting the wrong answers. Any suggestions?

Love my Gen11 X1 - How to sticker it up?

Pretty much all in on my Gen 11 X1 Carbon running linux - ti's my primary driver now and does everything. Cept, I miss being able to have stickers / decals / decorations on the lid. The coating means stickers just don't stick, right? So how do ya'll decorate? I used to run a macbook with the lit-up Apple and a gandalf outline decal which I really liked - sadly, not really an option here :)

(FTR - 32gig, i7-1365U, 512g (i know, teeny), with USBC dock that's twitchy, won't drive external monitors properly :( )

But boy it's nice to park it int he local coffee shop and do all my coding on it.

Gas cylinders for aerons that don't suck?

I've replaced my cylinder on my (yegods, 25 year old?) Aeron 3 times now. This last one has lasted only a few months before losign its seal (seat goes all the way up when i'm not sitting in it, or all the way down when I do - no, it's not the lever, I can feel that moving properly)

Amazon has zillions of these, they are all from different 'companies' but all look the same.

Is there one particular source that folks trust?

Can I replace the gas struts for my Roofnest Falcon v1?

Ya'll may remember my post a while back about my roofnest 1 leaking. I'm going to do a seamseal and coating on it shortly, but the gas struts / risers are sort of weak. I'm wondering if they can be replaced?

Looking at the roofnest site I don't see a parts listing for just those lifters. This is apparently a Roofnest Falcon v1 - a pretty early version.

It looks like I might be able to do this fix, but I jut want to make sure i'm not going down a terrible road of bad repairs and heartache, and maybe putting this much energy into a 7 year old roof tent that's seen a lot of miles is silly.

Am I insane? Is the editor really clunky?

Heads up - this is a bit of a rant.

Really enjoying Joplin right now, having moved from evernote and apple notes. But the markdown editor is incredibly difficult to work with. I've had problems of this sort in other notes apps, so I'm willing to believe I'm just doing it wrong.

I'm using the joplin desktop app under linux v3.6.14.

I almost always do documents with a section header of text, a new line, then a checkbox list. The checkbox list is frequently indented (so it's a section).

Joplin HATES doing this. It refuses to indent or outdent, and turning on or off the chcklist forces the block of text to reformat into - [ ] form (which I think is a 'temporary' display hack, but it persists and I can't get it to back to checkboxes).

Putting a new line under an existing item is very difficult if it needs to be outdented back to the original margin. A very easy way to demo this is make a checkbox list. Go the end of one line, hit enter. It puts a checkbox there. Backspace. Checkbox disappears, but cursor is still hanging out indented. Hit backspace 3 times, the line goes away. What's with all the extra backspacign?

I just had a set of listen items turn from checkboxes into now -[] (no space between the brackets) because I had the audacity to... move one? I don't know.

I just find the experience extremely frsutrating when alL I want to do is take notes and make lists.

Is this just me? Am I just doing it wrong?

What do ya'll consider a 'flare'?

To give some history here, I've had 2 reported 'flares' of DV - one a few years ago, which was treated easily by a lighter diet, no worries there.

6 months ago I staerted having consistent sigmoid colon area stabbing pain. CT scan revealed uncomplicated DV, lots of inflammation and an infection, but no fever, perforation, or any of that. Just hurt a lot.

2 courses of antibiotics cleared it (over 5 weeks or so), but I kept having recurring pain there - it would pop up again, i'd go back to low-residue diets, then it would clear and i'd be fine.

Is this 'pop up' of pain what people consider a 'flare'? None of them has gone to the point of needing antibiotics again, the last one was 2 weeks ago (when I also had a kidney stone, yay) - the CT scan for the stone was sent to my GE doc, and he said there was clearly resolving DV in the sigmoid colon, which is probably where the pain was coming from.

Since then it's cleared compeltely, and while I'm not back to Wings and Beers night at the local pub (that will probably never happen) I'm being extremely cautious about eating anything that's beyond basic fruit and whole wheats (for fiber), and simple foods for easy digestion. I haven't had deep fried food or red meat in 6 months.

I know that I'll probabyl live with this for the rest of my life, but should I consdier the 'pain' popups as mild flares, go on simple diets, let it heal, and then move on?

(er, context, i'm a 61yr male, 6'5" tall, this process has made me lose 45lbs - went from 275 to just under 230lbs - i needed to lose the weight to be sure, so i'm probably a lot healthier than i was, but I do miss good food).

My mini pile.

I know not nearly as serious as some of ya'll, but I realized I have probably more useable headphones than the average bear.

To give context, I headphone to isolate and be in my own space and block out the world Sometimes it's the only way i can function in public.

DT-990Pro - gaming set, use it while playhing whatever it is I'm absorbed in at the moment. Only gripe? Cable. I should get an extension. it's too short.

Treblab Z2's - Surprisingly nice - found these in a discard pile from ages ago, powered them up, paired them up, and they're comfortable and useful for going into isolation mode in a crowd. They're also SMARTER than a lot of BT headphones. They power themselves down at the right time, and re-pair as needed (dual pairing even!) when powered up.

Linsoul KZ ZS10 Pro IEM's with KZ AN01 Bluetooth adapters. These are my go-to when I want to be out and about and be ear-offline. I did a long term stresstest on these recently at a big event to see how long they'd run on one charge - 6.5 hours continuous music streamed from my iphone (with occasional 'pass through with ANC' when dealing with People).

My only gripe on the AN01's is im having a hard time finding a good in-ear shape that keeps my right ear sealed. The silicone inserts that came with them are good, but my right one slips. I'm considering doing one of the custom molds for them. Any suggestions?

I'm also going to look for a good set of cups that aren't as bulky as the Treblabs and can 'on my neck' when not in use. The Z2's are bulky and don't 'hang down' comfortably if I have to pull them off. Something I can pull down when dealing with People [tm] and not have it feel I'm being stramgled by a squooshy plastic tentacled monster would be nice.

My Z2, DT 9090 Pro,and IEMs. A small pile, but i like it.

The XO-1 Laptop from 2007 (okay not as vintage as some of my stuff, but still cool)

I was loosely connected with the OLPC project for a while, worked a bit with Jim Gettys and was doing support work with them during the G1G1 program. These things aren't as vintage as a lot of stuff we play with, but I think they're important historically.

So now that Boston Market is gone, where do you go?

I loved Boston market for a long time - it was fast food, but if I squinted a bit and fooled myself, I could say it was 'healthy' fast food.

Don't judge me.

So where do you go for good hot food like that you could get quickly and it isn't deep fried?

A quick look at the Handspring Visor and the Treo.

I was a huge Palm user back in the day, and absolutely loved the Visors when they came out - bigger, more capability, and an expansion slot! It really was the predecessor to the Treo.

Did a quicky blurb on one from my collection.

(If you're curious about the Treo, here's the one about that. Honestly my favorite piece of mobile gear I've ever owned. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/I-LkSK1KDgs )

What is wrong with my Roofnest? Leaked like whoah in rain.

Hey roof-folk! I recently picked up a used first-generation roofnest. I'm not intimately familiar with these, and of course, I set it up the first night, and it leaked like a sieve through the night.

In the middle of hte night I fashioned a support stick to 'hold open' the clamshell and the front frame component, which helped a bit, but it was still leaking / pooling water through the 'roof' zipper.

I'm wondering if this is not tensioned right - I assume the roof surface should have sheeted off the rain, but it was either pooling or something else was wrong.

Could be the gas risers are worn out and it was not holding the roof taught?

I have to say, aside from the leaking, the tent was remarkably warm and cozy. I used to have a Smittybilt XL on my jeep, which was... okay, but took too long to set up and tear down, and to put the big assed cover on it, but it was not exactly warm. The hardshell in the Roofnest is definitely warmer, but if this tent is just tuckered out (I know it was used a LOT before I got it. It may just be knackered).

So, did i do something wrong? Or is this tent just worn out? Note in the first pic you can see slack material in the roof - but it's under the fly - shouldn't the fly have kept it dry?

Okay, what do ya'll use for 'Burrito'?

Because Dr Bill has a... slightly awkward post for this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIwPGISdt1Q - which I can't use without giggling like a 13yo.

There's an note that generally miming rollig up a burrito with both hands is acceptible. Fingerspelling is obviously an option, but that's a long word.

So, what do ya'll use?

Proper process for dock lines when entering or leaving a slip

So we're sailing our beneteau 34.1 (not TECHNICALLY ours, but close enough). I'm the more experienced sailor, my wife is learning. When going through our ASA classes, we were taught something I hadn't learned before, i'd like folks' opinions.

Scenario - we're leaving the slip, fenders on the starboard side. What we were taught was loop the aft dock line over the dock cleat, and put the boat in idle-forward. That puts tension on that line, and naturally pulls the boat against the dock. When departing, just back out, the line comes clear, and you're off on your merry way.

For returning, process is the same, reversed. Maneuver into the slip, with an oh so gentle nudge on the fenders, your line handler goes onto the dock, loops the aft dock line, idle-forward, boat stays nudged up against the dock while you secure the rest of your lines.

The departure process worked perfectly for us a couple times, the arrival was a little rockier. I feel like setting the spring line on returning might make more sense, but that may cause the aft end to swing out, yes?

This trick of using the aft dock line seems a cheat code. Not only does it hold your boat in place, it holds it up against the dock, on the fenders, while you set everything else up.

What are ya'lls thoughts on this?

I'm looking forward to after gathering enough experience i'll be able to single-hand the line handling, tossing the line over the dock cleat as I come into the slip - that would necessitate tying off both ends of the line to make a loop (I can't hold it while working controls) - is this a normal thing?

Input welcome! Thanks!
