Any known way to clean this up or the reason for it?

I bought this Herman Miller Embody about six months ago. Because the lighting in my room is pretty poor, I never noticed these before, but today I saw a few small light-colored stains on the seat (see photo).

I’m not sure what they are or how they got there. Has anyone seen this before? Are these just surface marks that can be cleaned, or could they be wear in the fabric?

If they’re cleanable, what’s the safest way to remove them without damaging the upholstery?

problem with embody

Hello, a few months ago I had an Embody Gaming chair that I ended up returning after two weeks because, although everything else was pretty good, I had a cut on my thigh that I never managed to get rid of, even with a basic footrest from Amazon… but even after trying many chairs, I still can't find the right one. I finally got the Libernovo footrest, which I quite like, but I'm stuck with my Corsair TC 500 Luxe, which isn't the right size for me and isn't very comfortable. So I was wondering if I should try something new, an Embody (maybe the standard version is different?) because I can't seem to find what I'm looking for… I wanted to try the Libernovo Omni SE/Pro, but after reading all the complaints about the seat sagging and all that, I quickly cancelled my order! All that's left is the desire to try a Steelcase Gesture, but I'm also worried about the seat, or try an Embody again, but maybe in a different configuration. Do you think it's worth it? Or do you have any very good alternatives? Thanks for your feedback.

Can someone identify this Aeron?

Is this the remastered version? Does it have all the options?

Thanks.

Herman miller Aeron size B or C

Hi, I am looking to buy a used Aeron remastered. I am unsure whether to buy size B or C. I am 5ft 11in and 160lbs, but I am going to grow another 1-2 inches and likely gain a little bit of weight. I would like to have this chair for a long time. Which do you guys recommend, also I have average body dimensions (torso and legs in normal ratio). Thank you

Is it unusal for all 5 of my Aeron casters to disintegrate at the same time?

After 14 years of using my Aeron, all 5 original casters are starting to break apart, with little pieces of the tread breaking off day by day.

Given they all started to break at the 14 year mark, does that mean the wear and tear applied incredibly evenly over that long of a period?

How do people comfortably spend $2500+ on a chair they have never sat in?

Currently I have a blacklyte gaming chair which leaves me in agonizing pain every day. I can sit in it for about an hour before I have to lay on the floor and crack my back. I have insane back pain and the only time I am not in pain is when I am in bed.

I am willing to spend the money for a Herman miller embody if it will fix it, but it is so much money and I don’t understand how everyone is okay dropping several thousand dollars on this before trying it. I was looking at the libernovo chairs but that just seems like cheap shitty drop shipped crap like what I have now.

Anyone else in my situation (paralyzing back pain) and had it fixed by a Herman miller? Should I just take the plunge?

Aeron Classic vs Remastered

I’m looking to buy a used Aeron off of Facebook Marketplace or another used sight and looking for some advice. How big of a difference is there between the Classic (2004-2016) and the Remastered (2016-current)? I know they are supposed to last forever, but I’m just having a hard time spending $350-400 on a possibly 20ish year old chair. Someone talking me in or out of either option.

Embody Gaming final update

Update from https://www.reddit.com/r/hermanmiller/comments/1s8hyz8/embody_gaming_thigh_pressure/ (one week in) and https://www.reddit.com/r/hermanmiller/comments/1sx86w0/embody_gaming_lower_back_pain/ (a month in).

After three months with the chair, it has finally become comfortable and sitting in it is a seamless experience. One of my major issues all throughout, aside from the ache/pain in my lower back, was that I could not stop thinking about it and diagnosing how I was feeling every time I was in it. At one point I even tried to have it exchanged with an Aeron, but HM Europe are adamant that they will not accept returns or exchanges beyond the two week return period, which is fair play, it is stated clearly on their website. Thankfully nowadays I simply forget about how it feels to sit in it, as it is just there in the background, a comfortable experience.

In terms of what I did: I wasted so much time chasing wild geese, thinking in terms of adding more lumbar support or lessening it. This was pointless, the chair isn't designed like that. What matters is ensuring perfect alignment of the backrest with the curve of your back. What eventually worked, and this was quite a shameful realisation, was simply following HM's instructions from the Embody manual on how to set the backrest (page 4 of https://www.backstore.com/pdf/Embody-Adjustments.pdf).

I start by setting the backrest fully upright, which strongly pushes my shoulders forward, forces me to look downwards to the floor and creates a gap around my middle back that I can slouch into. With my back against the backrest, I turn the knob counter-clockwise, relaxing the backrest until my back and spine are in full contact with it and my eyes are level with the screen. Now I can't slouch anymore and if I were to try to squeeze a hand between my back and the backrest anywhere along the spine, I couldn't. From there, I adjust the tilt tension based on preference. I've ended up with a tension setting that makes the backrest quite flexible, which allows me to sit in perfect comfort while upright, but also makes reclining slightly too easy. I'd say this is a flaw of the chair, that the tilt tension adjustment controls both the feel of the backrest and the recline resistance.

I also had a lot of hip issues because I was incorrectly angling my pelvis, possibly putting myself in an anterior pelvic tilt position by really shoving my (relatively large) butt all the way into the gap at the back. Since then, I've learned that the butt is indeed meant to be in contact with the bottom part of the backrest, but I also need to be conscious of actually sitting on my sit bones. Put together, these two elements prevent the pelvis from angling downwards or upwards.

The rest of the adjustments are much easier to figure out and I had them locked in a long time ago:

  • seat height set so that the knees form a 90 or slightly higher degree with the thighs
  • seat depth set so that there is anywhere between a 2 to 4 finger gap between it and the knees
  • armrests set so that the shoulders aren't sagging nor lifting up

I use the headrest when reclining in the last two tilt limiter positions and I sometimes use the footrest as well when relaxing (I got the one from Libernovo, it's pretty nice). When sitting upright, I don't use either of them.

Hopefully someone will find my experience useful and end up spending much less time looking for the perfect configuration for this chair.

Embody vs. Aeron Size C for wide builds (not just "bigger builds") — Any advice on dealing with the plastic frame edges?

First off, I really hate foam chairs. I have never sat in one that didn't either bottom out, like the Steelcase Gesture, or feel like a brick, like most gaming chairs. Because of that, the logical choice seems to be an Aeron or an Embody, since both use actual suspension systems instead of relying on spongy foam.

The problem is that these chairs don't seem to keep wide people in mind. I initially bought an Aeron Size C, but the hard plastic sides jammed straight into my hips. Adding a Purple seat cushion helped elevate my hips above the frame, but that threw off the ergonomics of the entire chair. Once I was boosted up, my lower back couldn't properly connect with the PostureFit lumbar support. I ended up letting my girlfriend use the chair, even though she is technically too small for it.

I thought the Embody would be better because Herman Miller claims it has 21 inches of seating space. I sat in one for about an hour or two at an outlet store, and it felt great initially until I noticed some familiar pain in my hips. When I examined the seat closely, I saw that just like the Aeron, it has a rigid plastic frame running around the actual seating area. It is slightly better because the top padding covers the edges, but come on, Herman Miller. That is not a true 21 inches of usable seating width.

I also didn't love that the backrest isn't as wide as the Aeron's, especially since I naturally have a wide upper back and broad shoulders. However, I thought the lower back support on the Embody was way better, which made the overall back support feel superior.

So, are there any widely built users out there who have suggestions or experience with this? Did any of you eventually just get used to the Embody's side edges? Right now, I can grab an Embody on sale for $900 with no returns or warranty, and I feel like saving over a grand might be worth the risk. Or would it be smarter to wait for a Black Friday sale and buy one brand new with a full warranty?

To be clear, I am specifically asking wider users because this isn't just about being heavy. Some guys are heavy without having a physically wide frame, which is a very different issue when it comes to hard seat boundaries. Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

I was trying to remove the entire hip pivot bolt but only the screw came out… is this normal?

And the hip pivot casing or bearing or whatever you call it won’t come out of the socket with it. Wouldn't I destroy it by forcing it out with a hammer? Thanks
