[Discord] Looking for genuine, active members for our little literary community

Hey! We run a small Discord community for people who love reading, writing, and everything in between, and we’re looking for a few genuine members to join us.

We’re a space for sharing poems, stories, snippets, discussing books, exchanging recommendations, having literary discussions, and helping each other grow as writers. We have writing channels, a critique space, weekly weekend writing challenges, and places to hang out and chat.

We’re looking for people who genuinely want to be part of a community, not just join a server, drop their work, and disappear. We encourage everyone to share at least one reading- or writing-related thing each week, offer thoughtful critiques if they want feedback on their own work, and participate in challenges when they can.

You don’t have to be an experienced writer or an avid reader. You just need to be interested, willing to participate, and respectful of other people’s work. We’re here to learn from each other, discover new things, and make friends along the way.

We’re keeping the community relatively small so people can actually get to know one another. No pressure to be active every single day, no need to be brilliant at everything, just a genuine interest in being here.

If this sounds like your kind of place, DM me for an invite! We’d love to have you. 🕯️

A cosy little server for readers and writers

I’m starting a new Discord community for writers and readers, and I’m looking for the first few people to join and help shape it.

The server is pretty empty right now, so I’m hoping to find a small group of people who actually want to talk, share their work, exchange ideas, and get to know each other. I’d rather build a genuine community slowly than have hundreds of people join and never speak.

There are spaces for:
•Sharing poems, stories, chapters and excerpts
•Giving and receiving thoughtful critiques
•Writing prompts and exercises
•Book discussions and recommendations
•Writing sprints
•Writing together in voice chat
•Casual conversations
•Future book clubs, writing sessions and other events.

It’s 18+ and strictly no NSFW. I’m also keeping AI-generated creative work out of the writing spaces because I want the focus to be on people’s own writing.

If you’re a writer, reader, or simply someone who enjoys talking about books and stories, come help me give the place a little life.

Here’s the invite if anyone’s interested. Feel free to join if it sounds like your kind of thing https://discord.gg/UffakaeRW

Looking for a female writing buddy who might become a friend

Hi everyone! I’m 21F and I’m looking for someone who’s also trying to actually finish the stories they keep starting.

I have far too many half-written ideas, abandoned documents, random paragraphs, and characters living rent-free in my head, and I’d love to find someone to keep each other accountable and actually get some of them finished.

Ideally, I’d like to exchange writing once a week or every couple of weeks, depending on life, and give each other honest but encouraging feedback. I’m not looking for someone to simply say “this is good” and disappear. I’d love to actually talk about the writing, characters, ideas, what worked, what didn’t, etc.

And hopefully become friends along the way too. I’d be very happy to have someone to yap about books and writing with, exchange music recommendations, complain about fictional characters, share random ideas at completely unreasonable hours, and generally encourage each other’s delusions of becoming published authors someday.

I mostly write fiction, particularly literary/character-driven stories, but I’m open to reading different genres. I enjoy darker themes, psychological elements, surreal/weird ideas and a little bit of everything really.

I’d prefer someone 18+, and ideally someone who genuinely wants a long-term writing friendship rather than exchanging a couple of pieces and vanishing into the void.

If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, feel free to message me! We can exchange a little bit of our writing first and see if our styles and feedback preferences click :)

Looking for 4 writers to start a tiny literary fiction Discord

Hey! I’m looking for a few people who are into literary fiction and want to form a really small writing group on Discord.

Genre/s: Literary fiction — contemporary, experimental, historical, realist, gothic, etc.

Goals/expectations/commitment: I’m hoping for a small group where we can regularly check in about what we’re writing, share work for critique, and actually take the time to give each other thoughtful feedback. No crazy word-count expectations or pressure, just some consistency and genuine commitment to helping each other write.

Writing/experience level: Any level is welcome, as long as you’re genuinely interested in literary fiction and willing to participate. I’m looking for people who care about character, prose, voice, themes, and emotional depth.

Meeting place: Discord.

Max size: 5 members total.

I’ve tried bigger writing communities before and honestly find them a bit overwhelming. I’d much rather have 5 people who actually get to know each other, read each other’s work, and keep each other accountable.

The idea is basically to have a small group where we can share chapters and short stories, discuss writing and books, and have a place to actually talk to other writers. I’d also like to have occasional writing sprints where we can just sit in a voice channel and write together.

I’m hoping for something where people genuinely engage with the writing rather than dropping a paragraph into a huge server and getting “this is good!” as feedback lol.

The group will be strictly 5 people, so once we have 5, that’s it.

If you’re interested, just DM me with a little bit about what you’re currently writing and what kind of accountability/feedback you’re looking for.
It’s completely free. Just trying to find 4 other writers who want a small, chill but serious writing circle.

I want to write so badly, but I’ve completely lost my way

I’m struggling with writing lately, and I honestly don’t know how to get myself out of this.
I have this innate urge to write. I want to create something so badly, and I’ve always thought of myself as a writer. But lately, whenever I come up with an idea, I eventually realise that some version of it already exists as a book, film, or story. Then I start questioning whether I actually have anything original to say.

And when I do decide to write something anyway, I have another problem: I never finish it.
At the moment I have about five different plots floating around that I’ve started or developed, and none of them are going anywhere. I’ll get excited about one, write for a while, start doubting it, get another idea, abandon the first one, and repeat the process.

I also have this weird obsession with wanting the entire synopsis figured out before I properly begin. I want to know the story, the characters, the ending, everything. But even when I manage to plan something, I still can’t seem to follow through and actually finish it.

Eventually, I want to write a novel. But right now I’m struggling to finish even a short story on my own, and that’s really getting to me.

The other thing I’m conflicted about is AI. I don’t want AI to write my novel for me. I want the actual writing, ideas, voice, and decisions to come from me. But I have used AI for feedback because sometimes I genuinely don’t know whether something I’ve written is working. Now I’m wondering whether I should stop using it altogether and find better ways of getting feedback or doing research.

Lately I’ve started wondering if I’m actually a good writer at all, or if I’ve just been pretending to be one because I want to be one. That sounds dramatic, but it’s genuinely how I feel. I used to constantly have things I wanted to write about. Ideas would just appear in my head. Now I feel like I’m desperately searching for an idea that feels worth writing, and everything I come up with feels derivative or inadequate.

I know the obvious advice is probably “just write,” but I’m really struggling with the how. How do you focus on one story when you have several ideas competing for your attention? How do you actually finish something instead of endlessly starting new things? Is it better to write without having the entire plot figured out first? How do you know when something genuinely needs polishing versus when you’re just being insecure about it? And if you want to avoid relying on AI, what do you use instead for feedback and research?

More than anything, I’d really like to know how other writers got themselves out of this cycle. I just want to figure out how to actually finish something.
I eventually want to write a novel. I just need to prove to myself that I can finish a story first.
