Just a quick theory I had while playing this game through again, but I think Sunnys parents knew what happened. >!what if the bloody footprints that appear in headspace were left by Sunny and Basil in the real world after faking Maris death? And thats why he seen them in his dream?!<

And that could be why Sunnys dad supposedly left, because he knew Sunny >!accidentally killed Mari.|!< Im not sure if this is confirmed somewhere in the game, or just really obvious, but I just clicked in my head that it could be a possibility.
