Finally found something Slushy seems to really like! My picky boy haha.
I love how efficiently blue tongue skinks eat snails and leave the shell haha
After a month of trying to treat an RI with antibiotics and nebulising, Hissy had an x-ray today, and it was determined that she had arthritis and an infection in her spine. It is with the heaviest heart that we decided the kindest thing was to humanely put her to sleep.
I had almost a year with Hissy, and she absolutely opened up my world. She was the sweetest, funniest girl, I've never met another snake like her.
I'm so sad that she had such a short life, I wish I had longer, a year simply wasn't enough, she deserved so so much more.
I will miss you forever Hissy, you were my baby and I wish you were still here.
Please hug your babies for me today
Look at my big baby boy in his little soft blanket, such a sweetie ๐ฅบ
I've had Slushy for a little while now and essentially have him space for most of it. After speaking with the breeder about how I can move forward with handling, they told me to pretty much just pick them up and support them, and I have to say, it's working like a treat!
He still poops on me occasionally but, at this point I'm used to it ๐
I've been making sure to give him yummy treats when I go to pick him up and put him back, so I think I've been sufficiently sweetening the deal haha. He's getting so brave, I can't wait to gain his trust even more โค๏ธ
Thank you to the user who suggested Fergieleachus!! (Fergie for short) I fell in love with it, so, now introducing Fergie! :)
She's a confirmed female, and I'm struggling to find a good name for her! I like pun names, especially relating to 90s hip hop (shout out to my brooks kingsnake called Hissy Elliot) so I've been calling her Baggy Smalls, but I'm not sure if it matches due to the gender... But then again, I'm sure they don't care haha
Any names relating to being big or green, or 90s hip hop would be great, I just keep going in circles!
He absolutely loves his cork branch, I catch him climbing on it daily, apparently he didn't get the memo that he's a terrestrial species haha.
It's always so rewarding to see your animals use the enrichment you give them though :)
I've wanted a leachie for ages now, and I went to an expo thinking, I'll only get an animal if it's a leachie and, well ๐
I think I'm gonna call her Baggy Smalls or Baggy for short, any tips for handling/ best care, feel free to let me know ๐
I've had Slushy for about a month now and I'm still not any further with the taming really :(
I've been trying to lure them onto my hand with bugs, and that was working for a while, but now he seems to not be too interested with the bugs and won't take them.
I did manage to take him out the other day after luring him onto my hand, and he did poop on me but I kept him out until he calmed down, and when I put him back in his enclosure he calmly walked back in, but since then it's like he doesn't trust me anymore :(
He still runs away when I come in the room, but if I don't come in the room he'll stay out and look at me
I might be over worrying, I often do, but if anyone has any tips I'd be very grateful ๐
I have an appointment booked for the 4th August for my snake as I noticed her 'sneezing/coughing' the other day, but today I've seen that she's now producing mucus and her breathing looks a bit laboured.
I'm worried about her waiting that long for the vets, but the only other exotic vet anywhere near me is on annual leave and unable to help.
I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to help her until Tuesday? The thought of her suffering is really upsetting me and I just want her to feel better, any help is appreciated
You can see the mucus on the wall and her nose looks a weird colour..
I'm so stressed out, she means the world to me
A locust got loose when I was tong feeding her, but she seemed to have a great time hunting it down haha
She's gotten more confident even from yesterday! Had to stop myself from giving her locusts otherwise I would've got through the whole box ๐
I can't wait for her to start trusting me more โค๏ธ
Slushy took a locust from me with the tongs for the first time today! I wish I had managed to get it on camera but I wasn't expecting her to since she's been hiding all week and not taking anything from me.
I literally jumped for joy haha, it's so nice that she's slowly starting to trust me ๐

Meet Slushy! My new T. gigas gigas! She's so sweet, I picked her up today and she's settling in to her new enclosure.
The shop I got her from did a really good job of handling the babies, so she's really chill with handling.
I've put some food in with her and I'll leave her be for a while, would you guys recommend a week?
I'm so excited to watch her grow up, I've been working so hard to get her enclosure ready, I'm glad it's done haha
Any advice for a new owner is welcome, but mostly just want to show her off ๐
We don't really want to have to remove all the wallpaper on the landing, but this hole in the wallpaper from the previous owners is an eyesore..
We were thinking of covering it with something, maybe a mural? Not entirely sure, so I thought I'd ask on here for any inspiration!
We're fairly quirky people who like nature and science, any suggestions would be massively appreciated โบ๏ธ
My sweet babies Moonshine and Whiskey are getting big now! Took them outside to soak up the natural UV and work some more on reducing head shy-ness.
I love how they look in the sun, such unique markings and colours ๐งก๐ค
