Won a free baby leachie

Today I'm picking up a 6 month old leachie gecko that I won in a raffle last night. I own cresties and have experience caring for leopards and other larger reptiles, but have never even heard of leachies before this week.

I did research on them for 6 hours straight last night after I got the call that I won, so I have a bit of an idea of what I'm getting myself into. I've picked up a used tank from Craigslist and am trying to get everything set up before I bring home the new baby.

The tank came set up as a bioactive enclose. I absolutely plan to empty it out and give it a thorough cleaning. I will replace the substrate but am curious is there is a safe way that I can clean the branches to reuse them, or if I should just replace everything?

Signs of being Gravid?

Adopted a three year old leachie about 10 days ago. She’s been eating well, moving through enclosure at night, humidity and temp is consistent in the 75/80% down to 50 to dry out, and ambient average around 75.

The last two days she hasn’t been taking her CGD (putting her on insects next week, but wanted her to have time to acclimate since she’s in a larger enclosure now)

I also noticed she dug a little in the corner of her tank earlier this week. Hasn’t been bred so any eggs would be Partho, but what’s the best way to monitor her potentially being gravid + pre and post care?

Going to try a new diet incase she is just getting picky, but going from eating her whole dish every other night to two days of little / no food makes me think she might lay soon.

Thanks!

Question for new owner

I reallyyyy want to adopt a leachie soon, ive got a 2x2x4 enclosure for (hopefully) him. Im definitely more into the larger locals, specially the Poindimié and Mt. Koghis locals, only problem with that is i am making a budget for myself that tops at $1000, and these guys are usually twice that amount. In the end i really do just want a nice beautiful and large leachie gecko, even if it isnt my preferred local. If anyone knows any specific alternative locals that are relatively similar please lmk!

What locality do you think?

2 years old, im curious what locality or locality mix you think she resembles based of her pattern and body shape and judging by her size.
I know it’s nearly impossible to identify locality from appearance alone, but I would love to hear your guys guesses based on her phenotype.

Leachi not eating help

Soo my 1 year old female leachi that I adopted a week and 2 days ago hasn't been eating or drinking. ive been trying to let her acclimate but she is just hiding in her cork bark. I was able to slide small pieces of banana in there that were mushed up and let her come to it at the edge of the cork. Im assuming she is stressed because the smaller terrarium, but I was recommended leaving her alone for 2 weeks. The new terrarium is almost ready for her but i've been waiting for the 2 weeks to finish before moving her over. Does anyone have any suggestions for this? She also hasn't growled or made any noises like that since I got her.

UPDATE: She is no longer in the terrarium shown in the pictures. She is now in a larger and better filled terrarium.

Also if you are going to comment be helpful please? I may be new to having a gecko but I'm not dumb, I want to learn and do the best I can to take care of my leachi. Thanks for understanding.

How big is too big for a leachie?

My 1-2 year old leachie has been due an enclosure upgrade and I honestly misjudged how absolutely humongous a 120x60x120cm enclosure was 😭 I’ve just set it up and it’s HUGE is he gonna struggle in there? I remember reading before about them not liking large enclosures but is that really true? Idk but I’ll post it when it’s fully ready in a week or so

Ok Whatevers Comfortable for you buddy.

Weirdest position i found Mathis "Rocco" Dactylus in. I thought it was merely transitional but he chilled here grumbling for 3 hrs. Shortly after the picture he darted for his hide.

Not sure what to do now

Finally got her to eat a worm after dipping in pangea.

Say like this for like 20min before finishing it off.

Which locality/age?

Hello! I’m just a lurker (for now),

I’m considering adopting a leachie some time in the future and want to hear experienced owner’s advice and opinions.

What is my best change of obtaining a handleable leachie?

Do I need to get them young? Go for a female? Look for an already handleable one?

Are some localities better than others?

So far i’ve heard following: Females tend to be more handleable and the smaller localities too should be more handleable.

What are your experience and opinions on this?
I know they have personalities and nothing is 100 exact, but just in general 🥰

Not eating

I moved my leachie into her (possibly) forever home, a 24" cube, on June 19th. It's bioactive with some fake plants to help fill it out until the real plants can provide ample coverage. Temps and humidity have been perfect.

She has not eaten from her new feeder (magnetic wall mounted one). She ate once from her old shallow dish on June 24ish, it was about 4ml of food. She licked water droplets off the glass that same day and I have not seen her do that since.

She refuses to eat if I'm holding her or if I hold food on a spoon near her (she always has).

I have not interacted with her since moving her to let her adjust to the new space. The most I have done is hold a spoon near her mouth with food on it to see if she'd eat.

She has not pooped at all so I know she definitely isn't eating enough. When she was in her small grow out container she pooped about every other day to every three days and was fed (before being moved) every other day.

She was about 34 or 36g when I moved her to her newer enclosure.

Any advice would be appreciated... worst case scenario I will be moving her back down to her grow out container until she is eating normally again.
